I like the concept of the car but damn these are ugly cars. Almost as ugly as the Prius. I truly do hope that I will see the day when most of the cars on the road are electric, but hopefully they will look better then the leaf.
@holasoyorlando Oh you think so? Good bye Gasoline? How long before they crush those? Remember the EV1? I'd be surprised if this car lasts. OR they'll make it so expensive to buy, and replacing batteries, that people will be discouraged to buy it, but OIL companies will say "don't blame us, blame Nissan" for over pricing.
You people are incredibly dumb, electric cars are more expensive because they're in their infancy.
Of course fossil fuel will be used to power electric cars for the forseeable future, at least until solar panels becomes much, much more efficient or nuclear power takes over.
ELECTRIC CARS ARE THE FUTURE, not the today. It will be close to a century before we see a complete conversion, most of us will be long dead.
@MrTr0llol This has a car range of over 100 miles. Acceleration to 60mph in about 9 seconds and fast enough to get you banned. While being cheaper to buy, own and run in its lifetime than just about any other car on the road. At the same time its a cracking good drive.
The best bit is you don't ever have to be hassled queuing to fill it up and messing around with cash in all sorts of crappy weather.
Battery life on Lithium Manganese cells is variable to the use and rates they are charged. Slow charging from 50% and not racing the car will see ten years to 80% DoD.
Like the Prius, people will soon be throwing in far superior cells that will outlast the life of the car. In fact, some people have thrown out the engine on the Prius because like all fuel cars, they are a financial liability and a dead weight.
@elvis97660 NO no no it isn't because the dash board sucks a lot of power. The computer screens don't take that much. A huge portion of the cost of the vehicle is because of the battery pack.
@rabbidhedgehog nah, you will have a magnetic sensor inserted into your brain thru your nasal cavity when you buy the car and the car will detect you when you are within 10 ft of it.
alright i have to say this is such a nice car when u buy and is just 2 year old and etc. ut when i buy a car usually i think if is gonna last for a lot of time i mean 6 yr plus etc but i know this car i gonna be a problem after a while i mean mantinence does batteries gonna die in few yr and i know they gonna cost a lot of money plus sensor gonna start to give problems and stuff is a fully electric car so i am not convince about this!!!!
@angelitopr121 The battery pack charges to 80%, discharges to 20%. This keeps the Li-ion batteries running good for 5 to 10 years using the car every day (says Nissan). This car is much more reliable as a regular car I feel as it doesn't have as many mechanical parts (No timing belts, transmission, etc). If you live in a city supporting its green technology I would definitely look into it!
@SpecialAgentBob1234 the companies always says the same thing the car is durable reliable etc they say so they can sale but u know what i am talking about for sure is not gonna be a good car in few years
@picturama I was for the Chevy Volt before knowing about the Nissan Leaf. Volt is hybrid: you have 40 miles - more or less - of electric range, then a petrol engine kicks in as a "range extender". Leaf is 100% electric: that's why I changed my mind. No more oil (at least to run my car), thanks. The sad thing is that I'll have to wait 'till they come to europe...
@samoht1977 true. The Volt is a very nice concet, but if you truly want to go for 100 percent green and do your best to not use oil anymore, leaf is the choice. Plus, it costs 10,000 dollars less
LA MUSICIQUITA TRANQUILIDAD CUANDO LO COMPRAS PERO DESPUES COMO LAS PELICULAS DE TERROR CUANDO ENTRAS AL DEALER POR UN ESTIMADO POR UNA BATERIAS HAYI DONDE LA TONADA SUENA A TERROR
The Idea is great and all and amazing, i'm all for it, however, the energy cost to charge it will way out balance getting a hybrid car and filling it with gas. PLUS, 8 hours to charge only 100 miles per 8 hour charge? ...i mean great if your doing daily tasks, but deff not a vehicle to travel in or do anything to vigorous, driving wise throughout the day. Your probably better off getting a hybrid that is more emissions efficient but gets approx 70 miles per gallon.
The Idea is great and all and amazing, i'm all for it, however, the energy cost to charge it will way out balance getting a hybrid car and filling it with gas. How bout repair cost? That's my only question on Electric cars. They probably cost more than our regular gas cars. Love the music intro who is it buy?
@genestarwindjf80 actually, internal cumbustion engines have way more components and moving parts than electric motors and not to mention all the fluids they needs to operate.
@genestarwindjf80 i think most people will lease this car anyway as i remember Nissan plans to mostly lease them to and today in NYC almost everyone i know has leased car so repiar should not be problem they will be under warranty while under lease
it pisses me off that they still made the car look like a fag mobile. there is no reason for this. why don't they just make an electric car that looks normal? fucking bullshit!
Really they need to have something more then an easily defeated RFID fob for security such as one of those crazy keys VW uses or the kind that plugs into the dash.
Cheap to run expensive to buy! they need to come down in price! they need to have budget electrical vehicles not so expensive only the environmentally conscious upper middle class can afford it! one positive development in California is that EV owners could soon sell spare renewable electrical capacity back to the grid, that would help with the cost.
At current gas price of $3per a gal, you will have to drive this car 155,000 miles to make up for the difference, vs a camery... which costs 10k less and gets 30mpg..
The TCO will be a bit less MAYBE, no oil changes? no rad? no belts? no hoses?
Nobody is saying....
But just accounting for gas, this vs a cam its still 155k miles needed to justify it price wise.
Now of course if you are thinking "green" then yeah its worth it :)
@viper19861986 not really. the leaf is sold in cities meaning u r going to get city mileage. a camary is not going to get 30 mpg in nyc. it will probably get 17-20 mpg in nyc and thats the 4cyl model. Keep in mind im talking nyc mileage here.
@occckid123 I live in austin texas and we get BAD stop go traffic a bit...
Can't say for EVERYONE but my driving habits even with driving like that i still get a good 27MPG while doing delivery driving :) (100-200 miles a day)
But yeah didn't think about those who get terrible milage in city driving.. all based on your driving style so it MAY be worth it to some...
@viper19861986 the only way people who live in nyc will get over 25mpg if its they have a hybrid vehicle. turn a corner hit a ligh go straight get stuck in traffic lol. takes atleast a few minutes 2 get around 1 city block
I don't recall seeing a key at any point in the starting process whats stopping any old dude just climbing in and pushing that button and driving away!
Well if you know about those other gas vehicles that uses the push start engine button, they cannot be turned on without a special wireless key you have, the Leaf will probably be the same thing you need this wireless or magnetic key (actually magnetic will screw the whole care up) also there is a iPod Application to start your car from a distance.
Its just another over complicated bit of electronics that's gonna go wrong! Toyota are finding to their cost that cars that rely so heavily on such electronics can be vulnerable to technical problems!
EZ to steal? No. Nissan already uses this technology. The key fob is a presence device with what they are now calling challenge/response security, It is security that updates continuously to specifically thwart hacking.
Rent a luxury Nissan right now, drive with the keys in your pocket.
I was going to state here that I am in the market for an e-car, one way or another I want out of lining the pockets of the Luddites at Exxon. Perhaps I should that on the accompanying tech video.
doesn't Exxon deal with natural gas too? your electricity might be comming from a gas plant, so either way u'll be lining their pockets, maybe just not as much.
A purely electric vehicle allows *you* to decide its power source. Solar, wind, and nuclear energy are very clean alternatives to fossil fuels. And, of course, solar and wind are relatively infinite in supply. As battery technology improves, and it will now that so many big companies are demanding it, we'll see purely electric vehicles with ranges that satisfy everyone.
uh, no it doesn't. you don't have a choice. it depends on what power plants are in the area and on the grid. if there are wind generators, then it may come from that, but we'll never substitute wind and solar power for gas. we'd have to cover every square acre of land with wind towers and solar panels and have nothing left for crops. we've grown too large on fossil fuel to be sustained on renewable. when we eventually do run out of fuel, we're pretty much screwed (maybe 100+ years idk)
Actually it's been broken for years BMW has a more advanced system and there was a guy in hungry who would only steal cars with fobs. The fix would be to limit the fob's range to no more then 7" from the receiver or even use a combined fob and mechanical key.
Does this mean my electric bills going to go up? :O
