all i know is that the doctor stayed at that guys place and he solves an alien problem then in another episode he runs into the guy again and hes married with a baby, the doctor get into trouble with cyborgs in the dept store and the guy and his baby save his life
you tube say the video is bad or something like that i don't know way is noting her to sie o i think the cross of the germans of that the actor play hitler ma by is that say you tube is shocking this video
I'm a tennant fan. I have not seen this guy yet I'm sure he is good but I don't know. I do love British shows I recently got into a lot they are brilliant
oh please people don't play it like "it is shit", you are so boring. Who are you to judge it? Everyone has different tastes. That's called diversity. You are not superior human because you think you have "better taste" than anyone. This behaviour just make you look like you have low-self esteems issues and need to talk shit about things and people just to reassure about yourself.
If you don't like the new show then just stick with the old one and stop being stupid and boring.
Matts doctor is better than david. he crazy, anoying in a good way, badase, darker(david was dark to) and funny. i love david doctor but i love matts better.
@CPTTAYLOR592 matts dr is too unrealistic. In the latest xmas special he was more like willy wonka. A friend of mine said "since when did jim carrey take over as the dr?"
Ok. So... WTF WAS THAT??!! When I Clicked On The Link To This Video, I Got A Warning That There May Be Offensive Or Inappropriate Material In It. WTF??!! NO THERE ISN'T!!!
I just cant take to these new episodes of Dr Who, even tho I was a huge fan of Dr Who in the '80s. I think 1 of the problems with the newer series is that everything seems so clean, spotless & brand new. There is no dust, dirt, stains or creases. Not a hair out of place. Everything is tidy & newly painted & shiny. I have seen ome films that had this same problem, i.e. Gothika. I think film studioes should employ someone to dirty things up a bit.
I know everyone is bashing Moffat at the moment or so it seems, but I would rather have him over the soap like drama stuff RTD had. I like the fact that Moffat puts more sc-fi in, isn't scared to risk a few things, there's a lot more potential
@DynamicFilmUK more sci fi? Moffat was suppossed to elevate the sci fi element of dr who but instead hes dumbed it down for children. Hes got dr who characterised as a amle mary poppins willy wonka magical wish fairyman who does up thier house with moving chairs, lemonade taps, and hammocks. His tellytubby daleks are marketed for 6 to 10 yr olds and his timey wimey cliffhanger solver nonsense is just lazy writing that lacks imagination. You should read maryann johanssans blog
@doctorwho1982 It was a Christmas episode so its a little bit wilder, low key etc. I read a lot of people saying they found the new series complicated and confusing and that younger ones would find it even more so, so how is that dumbing down? Remember when the master got beat and everyone forgot, when Donna pressed the destroy all daleks button on the daleks own ship. Then ask yourself how many people knew there was a future doctor in Flesh and stone. This doctor actually accepted his death to
@DynamicFilmUK not complicated os much as a convulated mess that doesn't have any internal logic or rationale. Its dumbed down when the dr is able to survive the vacuum of space, and be enacted as a wish fairy type family therapist cross between a male mary poppins and willy wonka. As for the master getting beat, it was held together by a tardis time paradox that allowed the future humans to come back and kill thier ancestors and when the tardis was restored the paradox broken
@DynamicFilmUK and the events restored to normal. I know, I know, sci fi bullshit but it worked cos it followed its own internal logic. Daleks having a self destruct button on thier own ship is a bit contrived too I admit. Not the best solution but it worked the same way timey wimey worked for Blink. It had so much more goin on for it that u didn't notice so much. Good storytelling.
@doctorwho1982 Don't get me wrong Moffat isn't perfect and I agree with a lot of the comments about the Christmas special, there was so more they could have done, bill bailey was wasted, there could have been proper conflict for the doctor. On the blog the you mentioned it says "How can the doctor be too weak to contain the trees lifeforces, but a human isn’t?" something that was explained clearly, mother nature, mother, the doctor isn't female - just made me question how much the writer knows
@DynamicFilmUK maryann explains the stupidity of that contrived scenario. RTD had a soapy element, its called good drama but it was also more sci fi than moffats new fairytale dr who. Its like moffat is auditioning as a writer for LOST where theyare good at building up questions but suck at delivering logical answers cos they make it up as they go along.
@tuaman21 I hate to say this but I have to agree with you. I loved david tenant as dr who. I loved watching the stories with rose and her family, martha, donna noble and wilfred. Its all gone wrong somehow since tenant left. The shows just not very interesting anymore. I'm not in in the "sci fi crowd" and neither are all my friends but we used to watch the show religously. Now its like me and everyone I know who used to watch it can't be bothered anymore. Its not the same.
@doctorwho1982 And to add to it, I don't think in my opinion there has been a doctor who christmas episode as brilliant as A Christmas Carol, watching it the other day brought a tear to my eye. A great use of a classic Dickens story turned into SC-FI. Moffat might sometimes do it wrong, but so did Russell Love and Monsters was terrible and many more. Russell could write good characters but he didn't stop there and turned who into a soap. Moffat brought the sc-fi back, real time travel etc
@DynamicFilmUK love and monsters was awesome. Only reason many nerd moffat fans didnt like it was cos it was a send up of the obsessive dr who fans themselves. Xmas carol was average. If it bought a tear to yr eye you must be a faggot or something. Moffat didn't bring the sci fi back, he turned dr who into fairytale bullshit. I watched waters of mars just now and ir reminded me how much better RTD was. WOMars is way more sci fi than that shit xmas special with the willy wonka dr who.
@tuaman21 Well I think most will disagree with you on that one about Love and monsters. I'd say it was worse than the pirate episode this series (and that wasn't good). And there is a massive difference between soap and drama. You can have drama without having to bring loads of family, parents and so on into it turning it into a joke/mess. Part of the reason Journey's end failed as well as the cliché ending was RTD was to busy bringing back everyone to actually make sure it ended well.
People are too quick to be critics these days. WTF? As soon as a new episode has shown people fall over themselves to review it - I don't get it, it wasn't like this 5 years ago. Fact is, just as many people like Moffat Who a RTD's, but because you have all these critics shouting at the top of their voices that they think it's shit that's the only side you hear.
Personally, I like Moffat as much as RTD, but he pisses me off when it comes to his experiments with scheduling
@JESK1985 Yes, lets agree to disagree. Our same arguments, discussion points are replicated on so many different dr who discussion boards and blogs. I was staggered to find out just how many different people voiced nearly the exact same opinions as you and I on so many different threads with sometimes the exact same words (willy wonka/ mary poppins comparison etc) It was kinda freaky. Its good to know we are not alone in our thinking isn't it. Well happy new years to you.
@JESK1985 the overwhleming majority seem to saying the same of moffat now. They want him gone and the poor ratings for the xmas show may reflect this. I still say overnights have to be a good indicator because a friend of mine who works in TV ratings told me that many who tape the show and watch later or watch it on demand could actually be a lot of the same people watching it again for a 2nd time or 3rd time. Its hard to differentiate with a definate degree of accuracy.
@JESK1985 Although I have to admit I was not totally enamoured with RTD at first. Some of his episodes which he wrote himself were ok, some were excellent but when I heard moffat was taking over I was not in mourning. Moffats body of work up until then was AWESOME, the best WHO ever so like many I wasn't sad when RTD announced he was handing over the reins to moffat. They say, however, you dont know a good thing til its gone & thats how its panned out since RTDs left unfortunately
@JESK1985 I honestly feel moffats a good writer when he has someone like RTD to supervise him, to iron out his flaws when it comes to character writing. He used to be a good storyteller, I think the pressure of being headwriter is too much for him.
@JESK1985 as one an says "Steven Moffat seems to misunderstand Doctor Who. Sure, it’s science fiction -- or even the looser, less restrictive science fantasy -- and sure, that means that almost anything can happen. But it doesn’t mean that everything can happen, and certainly not all at once. And it doesn’t mean that anything can happen for just any old reason at all, or -- worse -- for absolutely no reason.
@doctorwho1982 cont..The dictates of satisfying storytelling still demand something reasonably close to a narrative, and something reasonably far from “a bunch of random cool shit happens so that everyone can have a happy ending.”- I agree with this fan. Yes it is science fiction with an alien who travels thru time in a olice box bigger on the inside than out but it still has to follow its own internal logic for people to be able to suspend disbelief and enjoy it.
@doctorwho1982 read this blog on the xmas special y maryann johanson. She pretty much sums up what me and many other who fans feel about the direction moffat is taking the show. You may not agree but thats the way me and many others feel.
@JESK1985 I remember what was being levelled at RTD and it wasn't the same. Most of his criticism came from old whovians, self proclaimed dr who purists who didn't like the way he was messing with the dr who continuity from the classic series. I remember having lively debates with people who hated the way he made the dr cry over the masters death, or the fact he had a love interest in Rose..things that would never have been normal in classic who. Moffats criticism is different.
@JESK1985 yes yr right. 3rd most watched still isn't bad but personally I think moffats dumbed it down too much. His emphasis is on making the dr a magical fairytale man that appeals to kids. what about his adult audience that want a a show that has some internal logic.
@JESK1985 It has been confirmed that only 7 episodes will be shown during 2012. Thats a fact even moffat has said will be happening. Even you cant still be in denial of that... can you? That is not up for speculation my friend. Yr theory of it being a split season, however, like 2011 but split over 2012 and then showing early 2013 is pure speculation at this point. Make no mistake about that my friend. Hey, how bout congratualting me on winning the net about BARB final ratings?
@doctorwho1982 ..cont..I meant to say winning the bet LOL What an absolute hiding! Only 10.77 million. Way below par. I was right, last years xmas special was riding on the success of RTDs coatails. This year ratings are falling as popularity falls. I've been on discussion boards now to see what fans r sayin and I'm suprised to learn many espouse the exact same concerns as I about moffats who and many also use yr ratings excuses to argue against them. So funny our discussions are
@doctorwho1982 being replicated on so many fan discussion sites and blogs. I laughed when I saw people saying nearly EXACTLY the same things I was saying, eve using the mary poppins/ willy wonka comparison for matt smith in the xmas special and so funny to see moffat fans using the exact same justifications as you for the fall in ratings/popularity.Funny thing is that it seems the negative reviewers seem to me to be much higher number now than when i looked a few months ago
@doctorwho1982 there is a grrowing discontent with the moffat stories, the lack of characterisation, bad pacing, dumbing down with nonsensical science aimed at 8yr olds and LOST styled story arcs that are more often miss than hit. Moffats preference for style over substance. Man, so many people out there saying exactly what I felt and I was suprised to see so many more now from when I checked a few months ago. Moffats got to pull his head in. Hes got to respect his adult audience
The final ratings for doctor who xmas special have been released. A lacklustre 10.77 million. The winner of the bet between me and JESK1985 is me!!!! Thats a very low rating. A timeshift on only 1.77 million in an age where tivo and sky++ are supposedly more prominent whereas VOTD scored 12.2 millions in overnights alone and had a final rating of 13.8 million. Thats a timeshift of 1.6 million in an age when on demand T.V wasn't nearly as prominent. Dr whos popularity is falling as i said.
@doctorwho1982 and its all thanks to moffats dumbing down of dr who, his lack of ability to write REALISTIC characterisations and his jumbled mess of a story arc and non linear storytelling that requires too much dedication from casual viewers to follow. Moffats all over the place. His latest xmas special was godamn awful, the dr reduced to being mary poppins/ willy wonka with a story that dragged and was plain ridiculous.
This was the worst xmas special ever. Worst ratings, worst story, worst ever characterisation of the doctor. WTF! The cartoonish dr now spends his days fixing up old houses with lemonade taps and hammocks and elevator stairs for a widow and her children? Like some creepy cross between a family therapist male mary poppins & pedo lookin willy wonka??!! Horrible, just horrible & that scene where the drs acting like a pedo crack addict on speed showing the kids thier room, whats up with CRAP MUSIC!
@tuaman21 LOL I agree man! Fucken hated the xmas special. I keep watching dr who hoping it will get better but ever since moffat took over its been bland and boring as fuck! Gone are the days when we used to count down the hours until the next episode. Now I record it and might watch it a week later when I got nuthin better to do. Dr who floating in space? Timey wimey gobbledegook. Put some effort into the science moffart. We can only suspend disbelief to a point. Bring back RTD.
@JESK1985 You will lose the bet. this years shit xmas special will need 3.3 million timeshift just to equal VOTD overnights of 12.2 million at tenants heyday, and it will need 4.9 million to equal VOTD final ratings and then if you add yr iplayer "crutch" thats another million or so, possibly more. Its a hard pill for you "nerdeniaL" freaks to swallow but dr who in the UK has sunk in popularity. thats why BBC put it on hold for a year, thats why DWC cancelled, thats why only 7 episodes
@tuaman21 have been scheduled for 2012. Moffats put dr who in the shit and if he stays as head writer he will never be able to make it as popular as it was in RTDs and tenants days. Glad to hear he cant handle the pressure and is leaving soon. Better he go now before he is pushed or worse yet, before the BBC cancel dr who cos of his incompetence.
@tuaman21 Moffats cant write characters. His charcters are shallow and uninteresting. RTD was the exact opposite and I bet RTD fleshed out the characters to perfection in blink, GITF, etc. Moffat shown he cant write characters for shit and no wonder his stories feel rushed and characters with no substance. Bloody dr who purists nerds dont know the difference cos they are social outcasts anyways. No wonder they support moffat. He casts the utimate nerd Matt smith as the lead character.
@darocky77 exactly, look at how he wrote up melody pond? Moffats taken the credit for blink, GITF and all the other classics in RTDs era but the thing that made those episodes GREAT weren't just the cleverness of the scripts plot twists but also the deep characterisation, the realness of each and every character in those stories. With series 5 & 6 over its clear that it was RTDs input that put that element into moffats stories. No doubt. Good characterisation is RTDs thing. Without RTD moffat is
@tuaman21 a far less capable writer simply because he cant write realistic characters and has been criticised for not being able to write women either. Hes a clever writer and has some good dialogue but without good characterisation his stories fall short. He needs a good wingman to make up his shortcomings or he should step down as headwriter and give the reins to someone who can write good T.V in general. Someone like Joss whedon who has experience in scifi fantasy.
@tuaman21 BBC has put it on hold because Steven Moffet is working on Sherlock and can't work on both. There are 7 episodes because they are doing it like they did for series 6 and splitting it in 2 parts, part 1 at the end of 2012 and part 2 at the beginning of 2013 (in time for the 50th anniversary). As for DWC it has been cancelled due to the fact of the extreme budget cuts that the BBC has had to make.
@The1stDirector no, thats not been confirmed. 7 episodes in 2012 is 7 episodes in 2012 and no word given on when the next 7 episodes will air. The one year hiatus has nothing to do with SM workload either. Its a hard pill for some to swallow but fact is that the writings on the wall. Moffats series aint the juggernaut RTDs was.
@JESK1985 you've already said more than enough on iplayer. Yet Another excuse in the making for moffats "nerdenial" crew. Listen, yr no expert, leave it to Barb as the official measure, not yr lone basement boy iplayer theories. Add iplayer to RTDs big hitters and they could of added half a million or a million more also. VOTD could have been 14.8 million then factor in itunes which is yr next step for yr denial brain. Just stick to BARB, they r the experts not u basement boy.
@JESK1985 thats yr theory and fair enough but I checked out te apple sales figures for 2011. It wasn't exclusive to series 6. The US announcement covered all dr who series and guess whos episodes sold the most last year? Tenants and RTDs. I agree with doctorwho1982. The programs gone downhill and timeshift might account for some numbers but when the finals come out you'll see that 8.9 overnights wont magically turn into 12.2, and definately not 13.8, not even on xmas. Not even close
@Yetaxa better in what way? better at makin the dr a cartoonish buffon family therapist character who spends his days doin up a house for a poor widow & her children like some creepy cross between mary poppins and willy wonka (the creepy pedotype johnny depp version, not the lovable gene wilder version). It was a travesty. EOT and VOTD were epic adventures in line with regular dr who episodes, this was bad fairytale shit so far apart from the regular series it may as well been a spoof
@JESK1985 I dont buy it that technology like iplayer or tivo suddenly gave 3.3 million people something better to do on a saturday night at that specific timeslot than to watch thier favourite show. Especially if it were as unmissable as it was in RTDs days. It will affect a few numbers for overnights but 3.3 million? Like me, they are cold on dr who now & would rather tape it later cos its not hig on priorities anymore. In RTDs days you had to watch it asap, couldn't wait.
@JESK1985 why you even mentioning iplayer? As I said, you denial fans will fall on anything to avoid seeing the truth. Add iplayer to end of time but theres too many variables. You have to factor in the iplayer numbers for those episodes too and then measure against its accessibility at the time compared to say 3 yrs ago yadda yadda yadda. Thats why we measure by BARB, the standard u chose but even if they did do iplayer in the future & it was still proven lower u moffat fans will
@JESK1985 still look for an excuse. I've heard the weather been blamed, I've heard tivo, sky++, the winter olympics and now its iplayer. The nerdenial is strong amongst moffat diehard fans. Even though DWC cancelled, the show put on hiatus for year & its season cut to 7 episodes, they still cant see the writing on the wall. Face it or not dude, final figures by yr BARB will show a significant decrease. I will win this bet. Moffats xmas special was terrible, his seasons terrible.
@JESK1985 even if iplayer, yr newest crutch, were to get measured next year in official BARB stats (which cant be compared with previous seasons cos player wasn't as accessible back then) and moffat was to still do badly, the next crutch moffat fans would find would probably be bittorrent downloads. With all due respect, the nerdenial is too strong.
@JESK1985 I gotta agree with tuaman. Sounds like you already trying to use iplayer as an excuse cos you know its gonna get hammered by RTDs big hitter when the final figures come in. No point speculating about what may not have happened with iplayer. BARB the official measure is the yardstick. Overnights its been defeated badly and I expect it wont get the 3.3 million timeshift to even match VOTD overnights. Thats a big difference u must admit. No more excuses, dr who aint the same
@JESK1985 here u go with the iplayer excuse again, ready to be launched when the final figures roll in and drwho1982 is proved right. For this years stinker of an xmas special to even come close to VOTD overnights, it will have to achieve a timeshift of 3.3 million (just to equal VOTD overnights). Of course you now laid the foundation for the iplayer "crutch" to use when it falls well below this. another crutch of denial for you diehard moffat fans. Wait and see, barb results will be out soon.
@tuaman21 VOTD got 13.8 million without iplayer factored in. I wonder how many actually watched it on iplayer out of curiosity. Its no wonder moffat talking of quitting with such a dive in popularity in dr who. No wonder the BBc have put dr who on hold for an entire year. The sooner moffats gone the better. this years xmas special proves he is no good on his own. He needs RTD to help him.
@tuaman21 yes, 13.8 million without even beginning to factor in iplayer. Moffats stories will never come close to that popularity. This was tenants and RTDs heyday. These moffat maniacs will always be in denial though. Its sad cods they are unwittingly killing the series. Its good though that moffat has already signalled he'll be leaving soon. Better he go before he gets pushed by the BBC.
@JESK1985 you "suspect"? You can speculate and suspect all you like and I can speculate and SUSPECT that had it been as prominent the viewership would have gone up. RTD dr who was unmissable television. Most people I knew couldn't wait a second to watch it. VOTD raked in 12.2 million in overnights alone. You wanna use iplayer as an excuse for dr whos ratings falling? LOL Add that to the growing list, tivo, the weather, winter olympics. you moffat
@JESK1985 If you like the dr being portrayed as a family therapist creepy cross between mary poppins and the pedo version of willy wonka then moffats yr man. Moffat u tool, u fucked up man!
@JESK1985 no yr right, but i bet tenants episodes on itunes sold the most, RTDs still the best ever. His dr wasn't a silly childish clown with silly childish storylines.
@JESK1985 falling back on iplayer now are we? If iplayer had been as prominent back in the days of VOTD, next dr etc who knows what numbers that total may have been...but we can only GUESS. I knew you would use iplayer as a crutch. You in denial moffat freaks are all the same.
@JESK1985 yes but they are probably buying tenants series off itunes as well. Check the sales and you'll see that its all of the revived series being purchased off itunes. Moffats xmas specials only got 8.9 million overnights and i bet the final ratings will be far below the usual RTD xmas specials. Moffats fucked up with makin the dr a fucken mary poppins this year.
@JESK1985 he means darker in tone. not scarier and I knew you'd try to use iplayer as a saftey net when you lost the bet. You diehard fans of moffats will use anything to justify the fall in ratings. Face up to the fact that dr who has fallen in popularity. The xmas special was terrible. Absolutely terrible.
@JESK1985 what episodes have been darker? where is the darkness, the edge to the drs characther he was suppossed to brng in. All I've seen is a clown and in this xmas special we got a family therapist male mary poppins crossed with the creepy pedo version of Willy wonka. It sucked. I've looked on blogs and reviews and I'm not alone
@JESK1985 I had a look at the BARB averages one fan posted on a web blog. They averaged out the entire series 13 epsidoes for each season (excluding specials) From those BARB averages, the only series that season 5 & 6 beat was season 3. Overnights though RTD still won. But even u must agree, moffats promise to make dr who darker hasn't happened and the dr now is a comical kids clown with comical kids stories. This xmas special is a perfect example of this, dont you agree?
@JESK1985 series 5 had one GREAT episode that ranks up there with RTDs best and that "the eleventh hour". Sadly, that was a one off. I cant say theres any of them I'd watch on a repeat viewing other than the drs wife. Too boring. Watched new earth recetl, was suprised at how much better it was character wise and overall than most of series 5 or 6. Even shakespeares code and fies of pompei, ones i thought weren't that good stack up better in comparison to most of series 5 or 6. IMO.
Ugh. It started off great, no, not the physically impossible and completely stupid opening, but the scenes with Madge and her kids, warm, heart-felt. Then as soon as that kid went through that box it just went downhill from there. Over half the entire episode was spent on just the characters wandering through the woods etc. It was BORING.
@doctorwho1982 I am fed up of this shows mediocre episodes, yes, there are fantastic ones but when half the episodes are crap it makes one wonder whether to even bother watching it when it comes back late next year. Moffat must ring in big changes and stop making his plots childish. Mat Smith is too busy concentrating on being a quirky Dr to bother giving his performance any substance. Bring back Davis he knew what we wanted!
@doctorwho1982 as another person says "life preserving/healing space-suit=great, swimming around in the space=silly. stop the timey-wimey jargon and try to put a little effort in to the science or fans may just turn off. "- I totally agree.
Another thing that annoys me is that moffats series was suppossed to be much darker, his doctor was going to be darker..so far theres nothing dark or serious about his series. It seems to be played more for 5 -8 yr old kids to a ridiculous level with the dr now being a male mary poppins in this xmas episode. Even the daleks now are tellytubby models. The drs a joke now. Even in AGMGTW when the question was asked "what happens when u make the dr angry" I was like thinking "finally some darkside
@tuaman21 of the drs character will be revealed, finally the god complex, the fury, some of the oncoming storm part will be shown". I thought moffat and smith were finally gonna deliver the goods. Instead fuck all happened! Apparently when someone makes the dr angry, all that happes is he shouts a bit and his lip quivers! Fucken disappointing. I thought moffat was gonna let the dr show his dark side& rip shit up but no...his dr is lame, a carttonish clown, a male mary poppins. Fuck you moffat!
@tuaman21 yeah, what happened to darker dr who? Moffats dr is a cartoonish clown. His latest mary poppins willy wonka incarnation in the xmas episode makes one wonder how anyone can take him seriously as the dr. Somone posted "since when did jim carrey start playing the dr?". Its not his fault i suppose, its bad direction from moffat.
@doctorwho1982 I agree. That episode was absolutely terrible. I couldn't believe I was watching dr who. The moment matt smith appears at the door and start insanely rambling on about lemonade taps with that "I know" shit and goes all crazy talking bout the kids rooms and hamocks..man I just thought to myself, moffat u fucked up again..and that was only 15 minutes in!! AND WHATS WITH THE CRAPPY BACKROUND MUSIC DURIN THAT SCENE. Matt smith just dont do it for me, unconvincing and
@doctorwho1982 I'm sorry to say this but I think dr who will start getting the great ratings and popularity it enjoyed with RTD & tenant when moffat leaves. I just hope the BBC doesn't decide to cancel the show but instead decides to fire moffat cos he is fucking it up bigtime. Matt smith doin the best he can with moffat direction I guess but he lacks the gravitas that ecclestone, tenant and tom baker had. They could clown but they also were convincing when they were angry or serious
@doctorwho1982 and doesn't help when moffat starts making him even more cartoonish as a person. You can suspend disbelief to a certain point but the characters have to at least ring true a little bit. Whats up with dr who now becoming a family therapist gay pedo lookin mary poppins dude?! Thats fucked up. I just cant believe moffat, creator of blink, GITF etc is coming up with shit like this. He is actually doin the opposite of what many thought he would do-he is dumbing DR WHO down
@JESK1985 Timedshft for xmas invasion was 40,000? So final ratings or is that overnights as 9.84? Interestingly i read overnights on VOTD alone was 12.2 million wth the final ratings scoring 13.3 million peaking at 13.8 million. RTDs big hitters totally kick moffats ass. Its overnights alone beating "a xmas carol" finals. Moffats the head man so he is surely to blame. All this is a non issue as he has already announced he may be leaving soon anyways. He needs to go IMO. He aint got it.
@doctorwho1982 A 40,000 timeshift is hard to track though as I can imagine. I dont know how the bbc could possibly track how many people back then taped the show via preprograming on dusty old VCR or had someone else tape it for them with any accuracy. I imagine such a process will be much easier to track these days with TIVO and sky++. Still you have to admit, 8.9 overnights for an xmas special, down 2.3 million from VOTD during tenants heyday is a considerable drop. Face it or
@doctorwho1982 ..cont...not my friend but dr who aint as popular as it used to be. Thats a fact. This years xmas special was terrible, moffats humor missed the mark more often than not and he pretty much reduced the dr to a cartoon character. One disgruntled friend of mine said "since when did jim carrey become the dr?". It was shit. Rowan atkinson could have been playing the lead in a spoof of WHO and we would have been none the wiser. A travesty this was.Awful, just awful!
@JESK1985 but there was timeshift as you said even back then and thats before you can even begin to factor in iplayer correct? Anyways, this year xmas special IMO did the RTD sentimentality bit well in te last 20 minutes but the lead in sucked. I rate this episode below even last years xmas special. Runaway bride, next dr, xmas invasion, esp VOTD all far better to watch. I miss RTDs epic xmas specials. This years xmas special was terrible. I really hope moffat can bring his A game
@JESK1985 but wasn't iplayer around during voyage of the damned as you said before? Anyways, thats not really relevant to our bet cos we agreed to measure it on overnights and consolidated ratings. You start factoring in iplayer and u can get all sorts of speculation. You agreed not to use this as an excuse-remember? Lets just wait and see what the final results are.
@JESK1985 Well I won the part about the overnight hads down. Thats the lowest overnight for an xmas special ever I believe. We will see what the final figures say. I believe I'll be right Even with yr most optimistic timeshift of 2.5 million as u predict, wont that only be a final rating 11.4 million? Almost a million less than last years and well below RTDs big xmas hitters? Thats if it gets 2.5 million timeshift.
@JESK1985 which part irritated you? the dr surviving sub zero vacuum of space and that great fall? If so, yes i agree. Unlike you I find it harder to look past. A show has to have some consistent internal logic and making this sort of thing happen makes him cartoonish. RTDs dr who felt REAL even though it was sci fi. Moffats WHO startin to feel more and more unreal if u know what I mean.
@JESK1985 apparently now under moffat his cartoonish dr can survive the subzero temperatures of the vacuum of space and falling from the sky without goin splat. At least the fallin part is consistent with tenants fall in LOTTL but not so much with tom bakers fall in logopolis which caused his regeneration. I feel like a pedantic nerd now LOL but this shite coupled with his lazy timey wimey plothole device is an insult to his audiences intelligence. Even a child can write a timey wimy escape plot
@doctorwho1982 I can picture the scene for moffats next timey wimey plothole device. Its rumoured the master will return next season. The master traps the dr on a volcanic planet about to explode (see star trek 3). He has no tardis, companions are dead or teleporty device with seconds till planet explodes- end episode 1. Roll opening credits for part 2-Magic TIMEY WIMEY- future escaped dr goes back in time to rescue self whilst viewers scratch heads & feelin cheated by lazy plothole cheat
@doctorwho1982 cont..viewers still scratching heads as to how he escaped this well built up cliffhanger in 1st place to go back in time. Viewers startin to see that show is getting ridiculous LOL. Then after future dr drops him back to his tardis, the dr remembers about the magical "echo" he spoke of and wishes his companions back to life. Moffat was supposed to elevate the sci fi cleverness ofthe show, not dumb it down. Cmon moffat, you have to do better than this.
@JESK1985 Yeah what was the explanation for putting her in a spacesuit and droppin her in a lake besides the fact moffat thought it might look spooky and cool. Moffats so much in favour of style over substance. Anyways, the xmas special was terrible. I just season 7 isn't shit-hes got 7 episodes to make his mark & impress the BBC. I hope he succeeds by making changes he promised. I hope he can give us more like eleventh hour, probably the only episode that matches his previous efforts
@JESK1985 Tenant said there was nothin in the void but he wore the glasses throuout the episodes. Yes its sci fi but it has to have some internal logic. this xmas pecial had none of this either so I'm starting to get worried about moffats WHO again. Piss poor xmas special-one of the worst. I know why henry van staten didn't recognise a dalek my pedantic friend, cos it was written 3 seasons before "Stolen Earth" LOL
@JESK1985 yes you answered but all I heard was "magic timey wimey". Heres another scenario, dr who trapped on all sides by murderous ice warriors. Hes surrounded, his sonic screwdriver drivers dead. Ice warriors about to vaporise him when episode ends & no escape in sight. Roll credits for part 2 and presto-timey wimey escaped dr from the future pops back in time complete with teleport wristband and teleports past self to safety. Wow, this timey wimey device realy comes in handy
@JESK1985 hey and if he gets tired of using the timey wimey device to solve all his cliffhangers, theres always the "wish me back to life" device which works well too. Just add some dialogue about an echo and some bullshit about cracks in time and hey presto. This ludricous lazy bullshit might fly though if the viewers were distracted by good interesting characters, well paced plots and solid acting. Worked brilliantly for Blink which had these in spades but not so much for PO
@JESK1985 despite moffats silly lazy timey whimey plothole devices and his LOST styled story arcs that are better at creating atmospheric questions but similarly come up with anticlimactic half resolutions that only pose more questions (like why they bothered to build a 1960's spacesuit for river and drop her in a lake? Just to look spooky i suppose LOL) I hope yr right and series 7 meets all his fans tastes or at least meets both sets of fans halfway. MERRY XMAS fellow WHOVIAN!
@JESK1985 Me or anyone else can wrte a resolution to the most built up cliffhanger moffat can think up using his lazy "timey whimey" plot hole device. Dr who bound and unable to move against wall with sontaran firing squad about to execute him- no possible escape forseeable- no problems- timey whimey -future escaped dr comes back in time to block thier fire with his tardis forcefield and rescue himself-never mind the fact people scratchin thier heads on how he escaped in 1st place
@doctorwho1982 heres another one- cybermen have dr locked in a inescaple forcefield which is in the centre of a star which is about to go supanova and destroy the dr and his companions. The tardis is crippled and has no power, the dr is hurt & unconscious. Episodes ends with no possible escape - the public is hired to write a way out- easy-TIMEY WIMEY_ future escaped dr pops back into the past with new tardis and saves his past self and his companions-no problemo 4 timey wimey
@JESK1985 RTDs episodes had good characterisation, heart and were well paced and small plot holes could be overlooked cos of all the other good stuff goin on. Moffats biggest plot hole "timey whimey" and wishing people back like a fairy godmother really stank. I half expected future dr to whizz back in time and save himself from getting killed at the lake from river song with moffats lazy "timey whimey" cliffhanger solveing device. His actual solution was almost as bad
@JESK1985 u could see the dr putting his plan together with LOTTL too when he whispered in marthas ear as to what to do. When it seemed hopeless he still pulled the plan together. Even the end to series 4 had hinted donna was something more important. What gets me about the pandoricas box is how the massive effort put into building up this cliffhanger is solved with the biggest plothole ever. Timey whimey which begs the question as to HOW the dr escapes in the 1st place. Lazy lazy lazy
@JESK1985 Cybermen killed with "love" WTF? how can you accept that gibbesrish. Last I heard they were susceptible to gold. That was a shite episode and a shite resolution.
@JESK1985 Yeah but how did the silence take control of the tardis? Hoiw did they make the tardis explode? an echo? Lets just wish the universe and the dr back into existence shall we, like a fairygodmother?
@JESK1985 You thought it amusing? I thought it incredibly anticlimactic. Such a huge buildup, all his enemies band together to devise the ultimate prison from which he supposedly can never escape and How does he get out? future him gives rory a sonic screwdriver to get him out , massive plothole bein how he gets out in first place? LAZY! Timey wimey bullshit. I can see this device bein used to get the dr out of any situation moffat sees fit. Surrounded by daleks about to get blown to
@doctorwho1982 smithereens? No problem, future dr pops in and saves the day-explanation? timey bloody wimey! Tardis crippled, no chance of escape, surrounded by cyberfleet about to be vaporised with dr inside-death is certain...no problemo, future dr who pops back in time with new tardis to save the day! Explanation- timey bloody wimey! See, anybody can write an escape clause like moffat for his version of a dr who cliffhanger- It'll be all good with timey wimey.
@JESK1985 No it was messianic all the way. It was good how martha was spreading hope like john the baptist and that was the real weapon the dr had planned. The dr would never use a gun.Brilliant misdirection and well executed. even the part where the dr says he forgives the master liken to how jesus forgives or god forgives man. The pandorica box wasn't a nod to bill & ted, just lazy writing to get out of a corner he wrote himself into. It was plain dumb & disappointing after such a
@JESK1985 good buildup. Even now there still is the question as to who took over the tardis and how? Who blew it up destroying the universe and putting cracks in time and you wanna talk about fairytale fiary endings? how about Amy wishing the universe and the dr back into existence? Or Love killing cybermen in closing time? That was just plain stupid. I hate this timey wimey bull get out of jail card. Its a lazy writing device that can be applied anywhere, anytime to solve anythin
@JESK1985 psychic power of the combined human race. I can suspend disbelief for the psychic power to have that much energy and be telekenetic. Its science fiction after all. It had messainic undertones and was a brilliant misdirection with the gun thingy. I loved it. As for the pandoricas box, when was it said it can be easily opened from the outside? How is that an ultimate prison if any joker can come along and break him out? Timey wimey escape wasn't cheeky, it was plain lazy
@JESK1985 RTD was just gaining momentum but theres no doubt his series was dr who at its most popular. Series 5 & 6 are just gettin by on the success of RTDs series but its losing appeal. I often said that moffat has never replicated anything near as good in his new series but I'm wrong. I forgot about eleventh hour which I believe is up there with his best. The fast paced stroytelling suited the story -20 minutes to doomsday & the rooftop scene was classic
lol most of the new Doctor Who sucks, it hasn't recently gone into decline. If anything, the recent couple of series are better than the four before it.
@JESK1985 the fake regeneration was a stroke of genius by RTD but fans mostly knew he wasn't gonna change cos a replacement dr would have been leaked to the media long before it aired. Common sense. However, it was a brilliant series ender with turn left, stolen earth etc. It raised interest far above the dismal showing of season 6 finale. Apparently, millions less cared if the dr died cos the story arc, lack of good realistic characterisation and shitty pacing had people not caring
@JESK1985 I dont get how u dont get it. The psychic satelite power thing was a running theme throughout the entire episodes. Its how the master brainwashed the entire world into voting for him, how the dr tapped into the perception filter he used. You may not remember but the master in the classic series was a master at hypnotism too. That was a good misdirection. The dr getting out of the pandoricas box, after all that build up of it being the ultimate prison really stank. Lazy moffat
@JESK1985 are you saying doomsday rated lower than new earth? I can believe "rose" rating higher than "parting of ways" with it being the very first comeback episode and all the anticipation around it at the time but New earth higher than Doomsday? Smith & Jones higher than LOTTL?? I dont believe you. I'll have to check those facts out myself.
@tuaman21 yes tuaman but remember that dr who openers can rate highly too. One blogger who I know as a big dr who fan has closed his blogsite doctorwhoinfo for this reason he states "1.Firstly I think that Doctor Who is not as succesful as it was when David Tennant was the Doctor, and has become more unintresting." .
@JESK1985 LOTTL was awesome. RTD had us thinking martha was collecting the parts for a gun to kill the master when all along she was spreading the word about the DR like he was a messiah so in the end he turned the masters psychic network weapon against him. He used the masters psychic sattellite power to channel every human on earth. I loved it. Came out of left field. Moffats get of of jail card for the pandoricas box was just stupid. Didn't make sense at all.
@JESK1985 I dont always live in UK but when I'm overseas & whenever dr who episodes aired I would download it from a bittoreent site as soon as it finished airing in UK and would watch it straight away. I couldn't wait to watch it in RTDs days. Now I just wait to hear if it was good or not. I still haven't watched "curse of black spot" or "night terrors" or :god complex" cos I heard they were godamn awful. I wish I could unwatch "lets kill hitler" too.
@JESK1985 when doctorwho1982 is right about the ratings for the xmas special sucking, I bet you will fall back on this iplayer and make more excuses for its dwindling ratings. I've followed this argument and think you are being dishonest with yourself. Correct me if I'm wrong but Iplayer is not used in BARBS figures back in RTDs days and wont be taken into account for the xmas special 2011 ratings. Am I right? I will look into this myself to keep you honest.
@JESK1985 to some extent yes but fact is if your home on a saturday night and dr who is on the telly and you have nothing else urgent or pressing to do, you should have no reason not to watch it if it is that GOOD. I used to do that with RTDs version. Nowadays me and a lot of people I know dont see it as unmissable and would rather record it and watch later. Its fallen down a few rungs on our list of priorities if u know what I mean. If it doesn't improve, people gonna stop recording too
@doctorwho1982 same here. I used to watch dr who religiously and moffats stories were the some of the best back in RTDs era. They were clever, played with time and all but they also had RTDs method of telling a story through good characterisation. It was still only 40 minutes but felt longer because it was well paced also. Moffats stories lack all this and often feel so rushed that 40 minutes feels like 20. Now I tape it and watch later hoping it gets better. Hope is fading fast.
all i know is that the doctor stayed at that guys place and he solves an alien problem then in another episode he runs into the guy again and hes married with a baby, the doctor get into trouble with cyborgs in the dept store and the guy and his baby save his life

oh please people don't play it like "it is shit", you are so boring.

DynamicFilmUK 1 month ago 45
@DynamicFilmUK more sci fi? Moffat was suppossed to elevate the sci fi element of dr who but instead hes dumbed it down for children. Hes got dr who characterised as a amle mary poppins willy wonka magical wish fairyman who does up thier house with moving chairs, lemonade taps, and hammocks. His tellytubby daleks are marketed for 6 to 10 yr olds and his timey wimey cliffhanger solver nonsense is just lazy writing that lacks imagination. You should read maryann johanssans blog
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@DynamicFilmUK ..on moffats laste few episodes. She pretty much says what a lot of people like me feel about moffats version.
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@doctorwho1982 It was a Christmas episode so its a little bit wilder, low key etc. I read a lot of people saying they found the new series complicated and confusing and that younger ones would find it even more so, so how is that dumbing down? Remember when the master got beat and everyone forgot, when Donna pressed the destroy all daleks button on the daleks own ship. Then ask yourself how many people knew there was a future doctor in Flesh and stone. This doctor actually accepted his death to
DynamicFilmUK 1 month ago
@DynamicFilmUK not complicated os much as a convulated mess that doesn't have any internal logic or rationale. Its dumbed down when the dr is able to survive the vacuum of space, and be enacted as a wish fairy type family therapist cross between a male mary poppins and willy wonka. As for the master getting beat, it was held together by a tardis time paradox that allowed the future humans to come back and kill thier ancestors and when the tardis was restored the paradox broken
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@DynamicFilmUK and the events restored to normal. I know, I know, sci fi bullshit but it worked cos it followed its own internal logic. Daleks having a self destruct button on thier own ship is a bit contrived too I admit. Not the best solution but it worked the same way timey wimey worked for Blink. It had so much more goin on for it that u didn't notice so much. Good storytelling.
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@DynamicFilmUK read maryann johanssans blog. she goes into detail into exactly what a lot of us are thinking about moffats direction of the show.
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@doctorwho1982 Don't get me wrong Moffat isn't perfect and I agree with a lot of the comments about the Christmas special, there was so more they could have done, bill bailey was wasted, there could have been proper conflict for the doctor. On the blog the you mentioned it says "How can the doctor be too weak to contain the trees lifeforces, but a human isn’t?" something that was explained clearly, mother nature, mother, the doctor isn't female - just made me question how much the writer knows
DynamicFilmUK 1 month ago
@DynamicFilmUK maryann explains the stupidity of that contrived scenario. RTD had a soapy element, its called good drama but it was also more sci fi than moffats new fairytale dr who. Its like moffat is auditioning as a writer for LOST where theyare good at building up questions but suck at delivering logical answers cos they make it up as they go along.
tuaman21 1 month ago
@tuaman21 I hate to say this but I have to agree with you. I loved david tenant as dr who. I loved watching the stories with rose and her family, martha, donna noble and wilfred. Its all gone wrong somehow since tenant left. The shows just not very interesting anymore. I'm not in in the "sci fi crowd" and neither are all my friends but we used to watch the show religously. Now its like me and everyone I know who used to watch it can't be bothered anymore. Its not the same.
pongiz22 1 month ago
@doctorwho1982 And to add to it, I don't think in my opinion there has been a doctor who christmas episode as brilliant as A Christmas Carol, watching it the other day brought a tear to my eye. A great use of a classic Dickens story turned into SC-FI. Moffat might sometimes do it wrong, but so did Russell Love and Monsters was terrible and many more. Russell could write good characters but he didn't stop there and turned who into a soap. Moffat brought the sc-fi back, real time travel etc
DynamicFilmUK 1 month ago
@DynamicFilmUK love and monsters was awesome. Only reason many nerd moffat fans didnt like it was cos it was a send up of the obsessive dr who fans themselves. Xmas carol was average. If it bought a tear to yr eye you must be a faggot or something. Moffat didn't bring the sci fi back, he turned dr who into fairytale bullshit. I watched waters of mars just now and ir reminded me how much better RTD was. WOMars is way more sci fi than that shit xmas special with the willy wonka dr who.
tuaman21 1 month ago

SuperRichi1A 3 weeks ago
@JESK1985 Yes, lets agree to disagree. Our same arguments, discussion points are replicated on so many different dr who discussion boards and blogs. I was staggered to find out just how many different people voiced nearly the exact same opinions as you and I on so many different threads with sometimes the exact same words (willy wonka/ mary poppins comparison etc) It was kinda freaky. Its good to know we are not alone in our thinking isn't it. Well happy new years to you.
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@JESK1985 the overwhleming majority seem to saying the same of moffat now. They want him gone and the poor ratings for the xmas show may reflect this. I still say overnights have to be a good indicator because a friend of mine who works in TV ratings told me that many who tape the show and watch later or watch it on demand could actually be a lot of the same people watching it again for a 2nd time or 3rd time. Its hard to differentiate with a definate degree of accuracy.
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@JESK1985 Although I have to admit I was not totally enamoured with RTD at first. Some of his episodes which he wrote himself were ok, some were excellent but when I heard moffat was taking over I was not in mourning. Moffats body of work up until then was AWESOME, the best WHO ever so like many I wasn't sad when RTD announced he was handing over the reins to moffat. They say, however, you dont know a good thing til its gone & thats how its panned out since RTDs left unfortunately
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@JESK1985 I honestly feel moffats a good writer when he has someone like RTD to supervise him, to iron out his flaws when it comes to character writing. He used to be a good storyteller, I think the pressure of being headwriter is too much for him.
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@JESK1985 as one an says "Steven Moffat seems to misunderstand Doctor Who. Sure, it’s science fiction -- or even the looser, less restrictive science fantasy -- and sure, that means that almost anything can happen. But it doesn’t mean that everything can happen, and certainly not all at once. And it doesn’t mean that anything can happen for just any old reason at all, or -- worse -- for absolutely no reason.
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@doctorwho1982 cont..The dictates of satisfying storytelling still demand something reasonably close to a narrative, and something reasonably far from “a bunch of random cool shit happens so that everyone can have a happy ending.”- I agree with this fan. Yes it is science fiction with an alien who travels thru time in a olice box bigger on the inside than out but it still has to follow its own internal logic for people to be able to suspend disbelief and enjoy it.
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@doctorwho1982 read this blog on the xmas special y maryann johanson. She pretty much sums up what me and many other who fans feel about the direction moffat is taking the show. You may not agree but thats the way me and many others feel.
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@JESK1985 I remember what was being levelled at RTD and it wasn't the same. Most of his criticism came from old whovians, self proclaimed dr who purists who didn't like the way he was messing with the dr who continuity from the classic series. I remember having lively debates with people who hated the way he made the dr cry over the masters death, or the fact he had a love interest in Rose..things that would never have been normal in classic who. Moffats criticism is different.
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@JESK1985 yes yr right. 3rd most watched still isn't bad but personally I think moffats dumbed it down too much. His emphasis is on making the dr a magical fairytale man that appeals to kids. what about his adult audience that want a a show that has some internal logic.
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@JESK1985 It has been confirmed that only 7 episodes will be shown during 2012. Thats a fact even moffat has said will be happening. Even you cant still be in denial of that... can you? That is not up for speculation my friend. Yr theory of it being a split season, however, like 2011 but split over 2012 and then showing early 2013 is pure speculation at this point. Make no mistake about that my friend. Hey, how bout congratualting me on winning the net about BARB final ratings?
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@doctorwho1982 ..cont..I meant to say winning the bet LOL What an absolute hiding! Only 10.77 million. Way below par. I was right, last years xmas special was riding on the success of RTDs coatails. This year ratings are falling as popularity falls. I've been on discussion boards now to see what fans r sayin and I'm suprised to learn many espouse the exact same concerns as I about moffats who and many also use yr ratings excuses to argue against them. So funny our discussions are
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@doctorwho1982 being replicated on so many fan discussion sites and blogs. I laughed when I saw people saying nearly EXACTLY the same things I was saying, eve using the mary poppins/ willy wonka comparison for matt smith in the xmas special and so funny to see moffat fans using the exact same justifications as you for the fall in ratings/popularity.Funny thing is that it seems the negative reviewers seem to me to be much higher number now than when i looked a few months ago
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@doctorwho1982 there is a grrowing discontent with the moffat stories, the lack of characterisation, bad pacing, dumbing down with nonsensical science aimed at 8yr olds and LOST styled story arcs that are more often miss than hit. Moffats preference for style over substance. Man, so many people out there saying exactly what I felt and I was suprised to see so many more now from when I checked a few months ago. Moffats got to pull his head in. Hes got to respect his adult audience
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
The final ratings for doctor who xmas special have been released. A lacklustre 10.77 million. The winner of the bet between me and JESK1985 is me!!!! Thats a very low rating. A timeshift on only 1.77 million in an age where tivo and sky++ are supposedly more prominent whereas VOTD scored 12.2 millions in overnights alone and had a final rating of 13.8 million. Thats a timeshift of 1.6 million in an age when on demand T.V wasn't nearly as prominent. Dr whos popularity is falling as i said.
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@doctorwho1982 and its all thanks to moffats dumbing down of dr who, his lack of ability to write REALISTIC characterisations and his jumbled mess of a story arc and non linear storytelling that requires too much dedication from casual viewers to follow. Moffats all over the place. His latest xmas special was godamn awful, the dr reduced to being mary poppins/ willy wonka with a story that dragged and was plain ridiculous.
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
This was the worst xmas special ever. Worst ratings, worst story, worst ever characterisation of the doctor. WTF! The cartoonish dr now spends his days fixing up old houses with lemonade taps and hammocks and elevator stairs for a widow and her children? Like some creepy cross between a family therapist male mary poppins & pedo lookin willy wonka??!! Horrible, just horrible & that scene where the drs acting like a pedo crack addict on speed showing the kids thier room, whats up with CRAP MUSIC!
tuaman21 2 months ago
@tuaman21 LOL I agree man! Fucken hated the xmas special. I keep watching dr who hoping it will get better but ever since moffat took over its been bland and boring as fuck! Gone are the days when we used to count down the hours until the next episode. Now I record it and might watch it a week later when I got nuthin better to do. Dr who floating in space? Timey wimey gobbledegook. Put some effort into the science moffart. We can only suspend disbelief to a point. Bring back RTD.
darocky77 2 months ago
@JESK1985 You will lose the bet. this years shit xmas special will need 3.3 million timeshift just to equal VOTD overnights of 12.2 million at tenants heyday, and it will need 4.9 million to equal VOTD final ratings and then if you add yr iplayer "crutch" thats another million or so, possibly more. Its a hard pill for you "nerdeniaL" freaks to swallow but dr who in the UK has sunk in popularity. thats why BBC put it on hold for a year, thats why DWC cancelled, thats why only 7 episodes
tuaman21 2 months ago
@tuaman21 have been scheduled for 2012. Moffats put dr who in the shit and if he stays as head writer he will never be able to make it as popular as it was in RTDs and tenants days. Glad to hear he cant handle the pressure and is leaving soon. Better he go now before he is pushed or worse yet, before the BBC cancel dr who cos of his incompetence.
tuaman21 2 months ago

Without RTD moffat is
tuaman21 2 months ago
@tuaman21 a far less capable writer simply because he cant write realistic characters and has been criticised for not being able to write women either. Hes a clever writer and has some good dialogue but without good characterisation his stories fall short. He needs a good wingman to make up his shortcomings or he should step down as headwriter and give the reins to someone who can write good T.V in general. Someone like Joss whedon who has experience in scifi fantasy.
tuaman21 2 months ago
@tuaman21 BBC has put it on hold because Steven Moffet is working on Sherlock and can't work on both. There are 7 episodes because they are doing it like they did for series 6 and splitting it in 2 parts, part 1 at the end of 2012 and part 2 at the beginning of 2013 (in time for the 50th anniversary). As for DWC it has been cancelled due to the fact of the extreme budget cuts that the BBC has had to make.
The1stDirector 1 month ago
@The1stDirector no, thats not been confirmed. 7 episodes in 2012 is 7 episodes in 2012 and no word given on when the next 7 episodes will air. The one year hiatus has nothing to do with SM workload either. Its a hard pill for some to swallow but fact is that the writings on the wall. Moffats series aint the juggernaut RTDs was.
doctorwho1982 1 month ago
@JESK1985 you've already said more than enough on iplayer. Yet Another excuse in the making for moffats "nerdenial" crew. Listen, yr no expert, leave it to Barb as the official measure, not yr lone basement boy iplayer theories. Add iplayer to RTDs big hitters and they could of added half a million or a million more also. VOTD could have been 14.8 million then factor in itunes which is yr next step for yr denial brain. Just stick to BARB, they r the experts not u basement boy.
tuaman21 2 months ago
@JESK1985 thats yr theory and fair enough but I checked out te apple sales figures for 2011. It wasn't exclusive to series 6. The US announcement covered all dr who series and guess whos episodes sold the most last year? Tenants and RTDs. I agree with doctorwho1982. The programs gone downhill and timeshift might account for some numbers but when the finals come out you'll see that 8.9 overnights wont magically turn into 12.2, and definately not 13.8, not even on xmas. Not even close
tuaman21 2 months ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@Yetaxa better in what way? better at makin the dr a cartoonish buffon family therapist character who spends his days doin up a house for a poor widow & her children like some creepy cross between mary poppins and willy wonka (the creepy pedotype johnny depp version, not the lovable gene wilder version). It was a travesty. EOT and VOTD were epic adventures in line with regular dr who episodes, this was bad fairytale shit so far apart from the regular series it may as well been a spoof
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 I dont buy it that technology like iplayer or tivo suddenly gave 3.3 million people something better to do on a saturday night at that specific timeslot than to watch thier favourite show. Especially if it were as unmissable as it was in RTDs days. It will affect a few numbers for overnights but 3.3 million? Like me, they are cold on dr who now & would rather tape it later cos its not hig on priorities anymore. In RTDs days you had to watch it asap, couldn't wait.
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 why you even mentioning iplayer? As I said, you denial fans will fall on anything to avoid seeing the truth. Add iplayer to end of time but theres too many variables. You have to factor in the iplayer numbers for those episodes too and then measure against its accessibility at the time compared to say 3 yrs ago yadda yadda yadda. Thats why we measure by BARB, the standard u chose but even if they did do iplayer in the future & it was still proven lower u moffat fans will
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 still look for an excuse. I've heard the weather been blamed, I've heard tivo, sky++, the winter olympics and now its iplayer. The nerdenial is strong amongst moffat diehard fans. Even though DWC cancelled, the show put on hiatus for year & its season cut to 7 episodes, they still cant see the writing on the wall. Face it or not dude, final figures by yr BARB will show a significant decrease. I will win this bet. Moffats xmas special was terrible, his seasons terrible.
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 even if iplayer, yr newest crutch, were to get measured next year in official BARB stats (which cant be compared with previous seasons cos player wasn't as accessible back then) and moffat was to still do badly, the next crutch moffat fans would find would probably be bittorrent downloads. With all due respect, the nerdenial is too strong.
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 I gotta agree with tuaman. Sounds like you already trying to use iplayer as an excuse cos you know its gonna get hammered by RTDs big hitter when the final figures come in. No point speculating about what may not have happened with iplayer. BARB the official measure is the yardstick. Overnights its been defeated badly and I expect it wont get the 3.3 million timeshift to even match VOTD overnights. Thats a big difference u must admit. No more excuses, dr who aint the same
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
seriously this is the special effects we get in 2011 -.- my low graph games look better than this *sigh*
killer3505 2 months ago
@JESK1985 here u go with the iplayer excuse again, ready to be launched when the final figures roll in and drwho1982 is proved right. For this years stinker of an xmas special to even come close to VOTD overnights, it will have to achieve a timeshift of 3.3 million (just to equal VOTD overnights). Of course you now laid the foundation for the iplayer "crutch" to use when it falls well below this. another crutch of denial for you diehard moffat fans. Wait and see, barb results will be out soon.
tuaman21 2 months ago
@tuaman21 VOTD got 13.8 million without iplayer factored in. I wonder how many actually watched it on iplayer out of curiosity. Its no wonder moffat talking of quitting with such a dive in popularity in dr who. No wonder the BBc have put dr who on hold for an entire year. The sooner moffats gone the better. this years xmas special proves he is no good on his own. He needs RTD to help him.
tuaman21 2 months ago
@tuaman21 yes, 13.8 million without even beginning to factor in iplayer. Moffats stories will never come close to that popularity. This was tenants and RTDs heyday. These moffat maniacs will always be in denial though. Its sad cods they are unwittingly killing the series. Its good though that moffat has already signalled he'll be leaving soon. Better he go before he gets pushed by the BBC.
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 you "suspect"? You can speculate and suspect all you like and I can speculate and SUSPECT that had it been as prominent the viewership would have gone up. RTD dr who was unmissable television. Most people I knew couldn't wait a second to watch it. VOTD raked in 12.2 million in overnights alone. You wanna use iplayer as an excuse for dr whos ratings falling? LOL Add that to the growing list, tivo, the weather, winter olympics. you moffat
guys are in so much denial.
tuaman21 2 months ago
@JESK1985 If you like the dr being portrayed as a family therapist creepy cross between mary poppins and the pedo version of willy wonka then moffats yr man. Moffat u tool, u fucked up man!
tuaman21 2 months ago
@JESK1985 no yr right, but i bet tenants episodes on itunes sold the most, RTDs still the best ever. His dr wasn't a silly childish clown with silly childish storylines.
tuaman21 2 months ago
@JESK1985 falling back on iplayer now are we? If iplayer had been as prominent back in the days of VOTD, next dr etc who knows what numbers that total may have been...but we can only GUESS. I knew you would use iplayer as a crutch. You in denial moffat freaks are all the same.
tuaman21 2 months ago
@JESK1985 yes but they are probably buying tenants series off itunes as well. Check the sales and you'll see that its all of the revived series being purchased off itunes. Moffats xmas specials only got 8.9 million overnights and i bet the final ratings will be far below the usual RTD xmas specials. Moffats fucked up with makin the dr a fucken mary poppins this year.
tuaman21 2 months ago
@JESK1985 he means darker in tone. not scarier and I knew you'd try to use iplayer as a saftey net when you lost the bet. You diehard fans of moffats will use anything to justify the fall in ratings. Face up to the fact that dr who has fallen in popularity. The xmas special was terrible. Absolutely terrible.
tuaman21 2 months ago
@JESK1985 what episodes have been darker? where is the darkness, the edge to the drs characther he was suppossed to brng in. All I've seen is a clown and in this xmas special we got a family therapist male mary poppins crossed with the creepy pedo version of Willy wonka. It sucked. I've looked on blogs and reviews and I'm not alone
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 I had a look at the BARB averages one fan posted on a web blog. They averaged out the entire series 13 epsidoes for each season (excluding specials) From those BARB averages, the only series that season 5 & 6 beat was season 3. Overnights though RTD still won. But even u must agree, moffats promise to make dr who darker hasn't happened and the dr now is a comical kids clown with comical kids stories. This xmas special is a perfect example of this, dont you agree?
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 series 5 had one GREAT episode that ranks up there with RTDs best and that "the eleventh hour". Sadly, that was a one off. I cant say theres any of them I'd watch on a repeat viewing other than the drs wife. Too boring. Watched new earth recetl, was suprised at how much better it was character wise and overall than most of series 5 or 6. Even shakespeares code and fies of pompei, ones i thought weren't that good stack up better in comparison to most of series 5 or 6. IMO.
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
Ugh. It started off great, no, not the physically impossible and completely stupid opening, but the scenes with Madge and her kids, warm, heart-felt. Then as soon as that kid went through that box it just went downhill from there. Over half the entire episode was spent on just the characters wandering through the woods etc. It was BORING.
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@doctorwho1982 I am fed up of this shows mediocre episodes, yes, there are fantastic ones but when half the episodes are crap it makes one wonder whether to even bother watching it when it comes back late next year. Moffat must ring in big changes and stop making his plots childish. Mat Smith is too busy concentrating on being a quirky Dr to bother giving his performance any substance. Bring back Davis he knew what we wanted!
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@doctorwho1982 as another person says "life preserving/healing space-suit=great, swimming around in the space=silly. stop the timey-wimey jargon and try to put a little effort in to the science or fans may just turn off. "- I totally agree.
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
Another thing that annoys me is that moffats series was suppossed to be much darker, his doctor was going to be darker..so far theres nothing dark or serious about his series. It seems to be played more for 5 -8 yr old kids to a ridiculous level with the dr now being a male mary poppins in this xmas episode. Even the daleks now are tellytubby models. The drs a joke now. Even in AGMGTW when the question was asked "what happens when u make the dr angry" I was like thinking "finally some darkside
tuaman21 2 months ago
@tuaman21 of the drs character will be revealed, finally the god complex, the fury, some of the oncoming storm part will be shown". I thought moffat and smith were finally gonna deliver the goods. Instead fuck all happened! Apparently when someone makes the dr angry, all that happes is he shouts a bit and his lip quivers! Fucken disappointing. I thought moffat was gonna let the dr show his dark side& rip shit up but no...his dr is lame, a carttonish clown, a male mary poppins. Fuck you moffat!
tuaman21 2 months ago
@tuaman21 yeah, what happened to darker dr who? Moffats dr is a cartoonish clown. His latest mary poppins willy wonka incarnation in the xmas episode makes one wonder how anyone can take him seriously as the dr. Somone posted "since when did jim carrey start playing the dr?". Its not his fault i suppose, its bad direction from moffat.
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
At least this year's Xmas special was better than the absolute shit that is The End of Time and Voyage of the Damned

Matt smith just dont do it for me, unconvincing and
tuaman21 2 months ago
@doctorwho1982 I'm sorry to say this but I think dr who will start getting the great ratings and popularity it enjoyed with RTD & tenant when moffat leaves. I just hope the BBC doesn't decide to cancel the show but instead decides to fire moffat cos he is fucking it up bigtime. Matt smith doin the best he can with moffat direction I guess but he lacks the gravitas that ecclestone, tenant and tom baker had. They could clown but they also were convincing when they were angry or serious
tuaman21 2 months ago
@doctorwho1982 and doesn't help when moffat starts making him even more cartoonish as a person. You can suspend disbelief to a certain point but the characters have to at least ring true a little bit. Whats up with dr who now becoming a family therapist gay pedo lookin mary poppins dude?! Thats fucked up. I just cant believe moffat, creator of blink, GITF etc is coming up with shit like this. He is actually doin the opposite of what many thought he would do-he is dumbing DR WHO down
tuaman21 2 months ago
@JESK1985 Timedshft for xmas invasion was 40,000? So final ratings or is that overnights as 9.84? Interestingly i read overnights on VOTD alone was 12.2 million wth the final ratings scoring 13.3 million peaking at 13.8 million. RTDs big hitters totally kick moffats ass. Its overnights alone beating "a xmas carol" finals. Moffats the head man so he is surely to blame. All this is a non issue as he has already announced he may be leaving soon anyways. He needs to go IMO. He aint got it.
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@doctorwho1982 A 40,000 timeshift is hard to track though as I can imagine. I dont know how the bbc could possibly track how many people back then taped the show via preprograming on dusty old VCR or had someone else tape it for them with any accuracy. I imagine such a process will be much easier to track these days with TIVO and sky++. Still you have to admit, 8.9 overnights for an xmas special, down 2.3 million from VOTD during tenants heyday is a considerable drop. Face it or
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@doctorwho1982 ..cont...not my friend but dr who aint as popular as it used to be. Thats a fact. This years xmas special was terrible, moffats humor missed the mark more often than not and he pretty much reduced the dr to a cartoon character. One disgruntled friend of mine said "since when did jim carrey become the dr?". It was shit. Rowan atkinson could have been playing the lead in a spoof of WHO and we would have been none the wiser. A travesty this was.Awful, just awful!
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 but there was timeshift as you said even back then and thats before you can even begin to factor in iplayer correct? Anyways, this year xmas special IMO did the RTD sentimentality bit well in te last 20 minutes but the lead in sucked. I rate this episode below even last years xmas special. Runaway bride, next dr, xmas invasion, esp VOTD all far better to watch. I miss RTDs epic xmas specials. This years xmas special was terrible. I really hope moffat can bring his A game
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 but wasn't iplayer around during voyage of the damned as you said before? Anyways, thats not really relevant to our bet cos we agreed to measure it on overnights and consolidated ratings. You start factoring in iplayer and u can get all sorts of speculation. You agreed not to use this as an excuse-remember? Lets just wait and see what the final results are.
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 Well I won the part about the overnight hads down. Thats the lowest overnight for an xmas special ever I believe. We will see what the final figures say. I believe I'll be right Even with yr most optimistic timeshift of 2.5 million as u predict, wont that only be a final rating 11.4 million? Almost a million less than last years and well below RTDs big xmas hitters? Thats if it gets 2.5 million timeshift.
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 which part irritated you? the dr surviving sub zero vacuum of space and that great fall? If so, yes i agree. Unlike you I find it harder to look past. A show has to have some consistent internal logic and making this sort of thing happen makes him cartoonish. RTDs dr who felt REAL even though it was sci fi. Moffats WHO startin to feel more and more unreal if u know what I mean.
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 was that cos eastenders was up against downtown abbey perhaps?
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 apparently now under moffat his cartoonish dr can survive the subzero temperatures of the vacuum of space and falling from the sky without goin splat. At least the fallin part is consistent with tenants fall in LOTTL but not so much with tom bakers fall in logopolis which caused his regeneration. I feel like a pedantic nerd now LOL but this shite coupled with his lazy timey wimey plothole device is an insult to his audiences intelligence. Even a child can write a timey wimy escape plot
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@doctorwho1982 I can picture the scene for moffats next timey wimey plothole device. Its rumoured the master will return next season. The master traps the dr on a volcanic planet about to explode (see star trek 3). He has no tardis, companions are dead or teleporty device with seconds till planet explodes- end episode 1. Roll opening credits for part 2-Magic TIMEY WIMEY- future escaped dr goes back in time to rescue self whilst viewers scratch heads & feelin cheated by lazy plothole cheat
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@doctorwho1982 cont..viewers still scratching heads as to how he escaped this well built up cliffhanger in 1st place to go back in time. Viewers startin to see that show is getting ridiculous LOL. Then after future dr drops him back to his tardis, the dr remembers about the magical "echo" he spoke of and wishes his companions back to life. Moffat was supposed to elevate the sci fi cleverness ofthe show, not dumb it down. Cmon moffat, you have to do better than this.
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 Yeah what was the explanation for putting her in a spacesuit and droppin her in a lake besides the fact moffat thought it might look spooky and cool. Moffats so much in favour of style over substance. Anyways, the xmas special was terrible. I just season 7 isn't shit-hes got 7 episodes to make his mark & impress the BBC. I hope he succeeds by making changes he promised. I hope he can give us more like eleventh hour, probably the only episode that matches his previous efforts
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 Tenant said there was nothin in the void but he wore the glasses throuout the episodes. Yes its sci fi but it has to have some internal logic. this xmas pecial had none of this either so I'm starting to get worried about moffats WHO again. Piss poor xmas special-one of the worst. I know why henry van staten didn't recognise a dalek my pedantic friend, cos it was written 3 seasons before "Stolen Earth" LOL
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 yes you answered but all I heard was "magic timey wimey". Heres another scenario, dr who trapped on all sides by murderous ice warriors. Hes surrounded, his sonic screwdriver drivers dead. Ice warriors about to vaporise him when episode ends & no escape in sight. Roll credits for part 2 and presto-timey wimey escaped dr from the future pops back in time complete with teleport wristband and teleports past self to safety. Wow, this timey wimey device realy comes in handy
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 hey and if he gets tired of using the timey wimey device to solve all his cliffhangers, theres always the "wish me back to life" device which works well too. Just add some dialogue about an echo and some bullshit about cracks in time and hey presto. This ludricous lazy bullshit might fly though if the viewers were distracted by good interesting characters, well paced plots and solid acting. Worked brilliantly for Blink which had these in spades but not so much for PO
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 despite moffats silly lazy timey whimey plothole devices and his LOST styled story arcs that are better at creating atmospheric questions but similarly come up with anticlimactic half resolutions that only pose more questions (like why they bothered to build a 1960's spacesuit for river and drop her in a lake? Just to look spooky i suppose LOL) I hope yr right and series 7 meets all his fans tastes or at least meets both sets of fans halfway. MERRY XMAS fellow WHOVIAN!
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 Me or anyone else can wrte a resolution to the most built up cliffhanger moffat can think up using his lazy "timey whimey" plot hole device. Dr who bound and unable to move against wall with sontaran firing squad about to execute him- no possible escape forseeable- no problems- timey whimey -future escaped dr comes back in time to block thier fire with his tardis forcefield and rescue himself-never mind the fact people scratchin thier heads on how he escaped in 1st place
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@doctorwho1982 heres another one- cybermen have dr locked in a inescaple forcefield which is in the centre of a star which is about to go supanova and destroy the dr and his companions. The tardis is crippled and has no power, the dr is hurt & unconscious. Episodes ends with no possible escape - the public is hired to write a way out- easy-TIMEY WIMEY_ future escaped dr pops back into the past with new tardis and saves his past self and his companions-no problemo 4 timey wimey
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 RTDs episodes had good characterisation, heart and were well paced and small plot holes could be overlooked cos of all the other good stuff goin on. Moffats biggest plot hole "timey whimey" and wishing people back like a fairy godmother really stank. I half expected future dr to whizz back in time and save himself from getting killed at the lake from river song with moffats lazy "timey whimey" cliffhanger solveing device. His actual solution was almost as bad
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 u could see the dr putting his plan together with LOTTL too when he whispered in marthas ear as to what to do. When it seemed hopeless he still pulled the plan together. Even the end to series 4 had hinted donna was something more important. What gets me about the pandoricas box is how the massive effort put into building up this cliffhanger is solved with the biggest plothole ever. Timey whimey which begs the question as to HOW the dr escapes in the 1st place. Lazy lazy lazy
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 Cybermen killed with "love" WTF? how can you accept that gibbesrish. Last I heard they were susceptible to gold. That was a shite episode and a shite resolution.
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 Yeah but how did the silence take control of the tardis? Hoiw did they make the tardis explode? an echo? Lets just wish the universe and the dr back into existence shall we, like a fairygodmother?
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@JESK1985 You thought it amusing? I thought it incredibly anticlimactic. Such a huge buildup, all his enemies band together to devise the ultimate prison from which he supposedly can never escape and How does he get out? future him gives rory a sonic screwdriver to get him out , massive plothole bein how he gets out in first place? LAZY! Timey wimey bullshit. I can see this device bein used to get the dr out of any situation moffat sees fit. Surrounded by daleks about to get blown to
doctorwho1982 2 months ago

Lazy moffat

How on earth is this video "potentially offensive or inappropriate"? Even to the point of having a warning before-hand?

@JESK1985 if nby solid you mean terrible then no thanks. People I know said it sucked.

Am I right? I will look into this myself to keep you honest.
tuaman21 2 months ago
@JESK1985 to some extent yes but fact is if your home on a saturday night and dr who is on the telly and you have nothing else urgent or pressing to do, you should have no reason not to watch it if it is that GOOD. I used to do that with RTDs version. Nowadays me and a lot of people I know dont see it as unmissable and would rather record it and watch later. Its fallen down a few rungs on our list of priorities if u know what I mean. If it doesn't improve, people gonna stop recording too
doctorwho1982 2 months ago
@doctorwho1982 same here. I used to watch dr who religiously and moffats stories were the some of the best back in RTDs era. They were clever, played with time and all but they also had RTDs method of telling a story through good characterisation. It was still only 40 minutes but felt longer because it was well paced also. Moffats stories lack all this and often feel so rushed that 40 minutes feels like 20. Now I tape it and watch later hoping it gets better. Hope is fading fast.
