It really un-healthy thats what it is. Trolling can be fun, but some people need to know their limits. It's a really un-healthy habit, and they need to either get a hobby, or just troll RIGHT. Only few know how to troll.
I've been trolled before, I thought their efforts were amateurish and pitiful. Doesn't mean I didn't get mad at the time (that's their point after all), but I think about the amount of time they spent composing sarcastic imitations of my work, and how they could have put the same effort into creating something of their own, and I just feel sorry for them.

Sometimes I think you can find yourself cast as a troll even though you might be sincere because you're persisting too long with contributions that are intolerable in a given context. I had a recent experience like that on a creative forum a few months ago. The reception metered out to newcomers was akin to walking into the Engineers Arms in Whitley Wood and asking for a gin and tonic. So I PMed the folk whose work I enjoyed and legged it.
Yeah, idiots rarely know they're idiots. They also don't ever come to their senses because they don't have any. So ignoring and blocking seems to be the best method.

A troll doesn't usually have to end up insulting people. A troll specifically sets out to cause trouble, but usually by offering an opinion or statement which they know will cause debate. Insulting someone means they're just idiots.
@Priestofbabalon well if they are just up for a reasonable debate then even opposing points of view can be valid - it's when it's unreasonable or just meant to hurt or bait that it becomes trolling!
