I've always been a bit confused about one thing in 10MB - why does every run have lag at the end? Do you have to pause for the game to spawn the last enemy quicker, like the sheik/zelda pause for faster transformation?

Yes. While the specifics are hard too explain, that's the short of it. During the actual run, pausing the game will make the clone spawn while the clock is paused, with the clone instantly spawning after said pause.
