I'm an American and I'm fascinated by this. I'd do it in a heartbeat if I could get there. Not to offend, but is it safe to travel to Turkey as a US citizen during these times? I'm more worried about my country arresting me for heading there than being hurt by people in Turkey. :(

@americansmark well ur not going there to kill any one are you?? lool, its safe to travel any where even in the middle east and arab countries, its not as bad as they make it sound on fox news or cnn trust me, u have no idea how many americans live safely in those countries... as long ur not threatening anyone no one will threaten u, i guess besides the countries where there r some wars going on, i would stay away from those other than that, americans and foreigners r welcome there

@americansmark they have these baths or (hammam) in morocco too, most americans feel safer to travel there as a start, Turkey is so beautiful too, haven't been there my self, but relatives of mine have, showed me pics, they say its one of the most beautiful places to go to, and like any other country they depend on tourists to visit and spend money. theres nothing like the experience of international travelling, its the best! good luck :)

@americansmark i dont know what makes ppl think that we are animals, terrorists and etc. Turkey is safer than most of the other countries are. I hate that streotype. These suicide-bombers, terrorists and other bullshits are not Turks. They are just piece of shit. That's all. And you all are welcome here. Turkish ppl is the most hospitable ppl you can ever see.

@basilleia Probably because most Turks are Muslim and being Muslim is associated with terrorism, thus all Turks are branded as such. It is sad really. And to top it off Turkey is in NATO. Hahahaha! How funny is that when people accuse Turks of terrorism!?!

@RockyRaccoon629 at one time we did have something like that in America but during the 60s and 70s and early 80s it was synonymous with the Homosexual Male Culture and thus was seen as some place where bad things happened. It may take decades for we Americans to fully understand the cultural standing of the hamam and its place in the world.

hey, you must be kidding! Its such a pitty! I tried it in Istanbul once, was so great! I felt like reborn! I think for each man it is just great to stay some time in an exclusively "mens´world".
Even in my country, we have saunas where we are completely naked: women extra, men extra, or women and men mixed, or even family saunas, where the whole families can come.
You can choose whatever you want without any prejudicies.

Much longer than a millennium. In Sana, the capital of yemen, I visited a Hamam (Hamam Shuker) that is 2,200 years old and still fully operational. Just amazing to experience.

The Arabian steam bath traditions from Yemen and Turkey have inspired the creation of a hamam at Peninsula Hot Springs south of Melbourne in Australia. This video in Bursa was a part of the background research. Women are welcome. You can see a short clip on the creation of this hamam and some girls enjoying it. I can vouch from personal experience that it is simply sensational. You come out feeling like a new person. The time old traditions of twisting, slapping, pressing, pushing, pulling etc are nothing to worry about. Best thing to do is to leave all preconceptions at the door (like it looks gay etc) and just indulge yourself in thousands of years of tradition made up of Greek, Roman and Turkish influences.
