Perhaps in globalisation more leeway should be granted to differences, afterall, entire nations have developed over thousands of years under very different conditions than those at home. We cant just expect everyone to dress the same, worship the same, eat the same, speak the same or vote the same over afew decades.

I dont think it is so much what China did as what the West has done in its media to diminish a foreign culture throughout the centuries.
There's always been accusations of the China threat and Yellow Peril from the 19th century and western media has a habit of pointing out the shortcomings of foreign cultures and forgetting to mention any of their good points. As a result, many people have a innate bias against these cultures, including China.

Our school taught us to like democracy. I lived in this country and I saw the bad of it outweighing the good. Democracy is all in the hands of the people - if the people are good then I'll like it. People today in Britain are just... you know what I mean. For that I prefer a regime in which the government keeps the power because I would rather trust a corrupt government than a corrupt society.

I was born in China. My parent had a very bad experience in China in the past. We are living in US now. However, I think the Chinese Government is not that bad now. They are changing, and I will support them. Most of my generation supports the Goverment too. We do not think western culture and "democracy" fit for Chinese people.

During the Cold War, both nations were almost at the edge of war. With the stockpiles of nuclear weapon, the situation couldn't be any worse. So why, add coal to the fire? Still 28 years? By now the USSR have already collapsed.
These so-called protest and "riot" is because of Tibet. Which I believe is set up, staged. Not that I am paranoid, but its because I don't know how the world works.

The war did not start intill 1939, when Hitler invaded Poland. Then finally in 1941 when the US enter the war because the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. You are using the horrors of WW2 which associate with Hitler and compare it to China saying that we are even worse! But in fact, Hitler didn't even start the war INTILL 1939, so you are 3 years behind. If Hitler were to host the Olympics during/after WW2 would say that it was peaceful?

China has a gap between rich and poor comparable to the U.S., doesn't provide free healthcare to it's citizens, and its working class is paid the worst wages in the world. The question about Hitler and China is not stupid as it illustrates Hitler did not invoke hate during the 1936 Olympic Torch relay as the Communist in Beijing invoked more hate than any Olympics in the history of the games.
