  • ya'll know how many avi movies u can store on 1 disc?

    pfft... tv shows, etc...

    PS3 is the shit.

  • I can just play avi files on my ps3. Perhaps because of the latest update ;-)

  • To get this working what I did was setup Nero MediaHome FIRST and specified the folder, and then opened Nero Scout and Indexed the same folder. Started the server and it worked like a charm.

  • fuckin shit

  • dirty sanchez good az

  • plus, linux in ps3 sucks ass, since you cant touch the super nice video card in your system(YET, they are trying to get sony to allow it!) so right now linux cant do much on ps3:(

  • you can play all you movies use you tube download torrents in fact you can pretty much do everything you want except play games which is what the PS OS is for. we would all like access to the gpu, its not that supernice you can go out and buy a better graphics card for your pc for less than £100 now

  • thats why its called opensource write that damn driver whos gonna stop ya

  • how did you get this to work!! i have got the nero symbol on my ps3, i goto video, and it says" no titles found" what am i doing wrong

  • anyone have step by step instructions to do this

  • no .avi is a container format... it contains the video and sound data as 2 different strings of data and plays them together... he means that the .avi file contains the video encoded in mpeg4 format... nice job dude i didnt know i could do this but can it read .avi file encoded with xvid?

  • Hi, will the PS3 play avi in HD format? Either 720p or 1080?

  • in computer terms HD is just a resolution which old crt monitors could handle and even beat, so as long as the avi is in that resolution and the right format it will work fine

  • If it's an avi file, why does it says mpeg on the right upper corner??

  • .avi is encoded to mpeg4

  • wrong avi can have many encodings it is not itself a set standard just a file type, divx, xvid, mp4 are the encodings, so if you are saying this file is encoded in mpeg4 then you are right

  • Is it possible to play .avi files from a dvd?

  • mingeeta, does that mean that if i use tversity,i wouldnt need nero media centre anymore

  • yep tversity is the only thing you need. i had nero but found tversity faster and more stable

  • LOOOOOL NICE FAKER. Your using MPEG 1 format but you just named the file .avi on the end. Fuck you

  • Are you stupid or what you prat!! I said earlier if you care to read its transcoded on the fly. DO you not know what this means . It means that the avi file is transcoded realtime to mpeg, so F U you idiot.

  • Ive since moved to TVersity and can now play all files including mkv etc. Delete all your codec packs from your system and reboot. Download tversity and install the patch.

install the ffdshow (610) release. Also turn off AC3 in your FFDshow audio codec config after installation. Install Haali Splitter. Install AC3 filter and set it to 2.0 stereo. Reboot.

Tip: Dont try playing it on your ps3 until it plays in the tversity window.

  • ok ive got nero 7 installed but it didnt have the nero scout with it so it would pick up my videos, so im getting a update from the nero site. when i tired this with WM11 for Music i keeped getting a error that my media sharing wasnt enabled but it was and ive adjusted my firewall so hopefully i can get this going

  • I was just using WMP11 to get all of my podcasts on my PS3. Does Nero Homemedia install a bunch of junk? I installed one version of Nero and it gave me a bunch of stuff I didn't want and it was very hard to get rid of it.

  • Thanks man im going try this out, ive been trying all day to get this going

  • nice tv

  • What's special with Nero MediaHome compared to other DNLA software is the transcoding functionality. eg converting on-the-fly.

mingeeta: What format did you choose at audio/video transcoding? Auto-detect? Mpeg2 gives me thumbnails, but when I try to play I get corrupted data and back at the PC MediaHome shows me an runtime error at NMSTranscoder.exe =) I was soo close

  • So here's the question of the hour...Are your Avi files encoded using DivX? If not, what did you use for compression? Do you know if Nero supports DivX conversion on the fly?

  • Okay, just one question. How do you get thumbnail images for the video files?

  • the xmb does it automatically

  • Which version of Nero are you using?

  • the very latest 7.9. something just got it today from their site. I have posted instructions on ps3forums its actually quite easy though the scout thing in nero could be a bit more intuative. But theres basically very little setup .

  • Well, I saw the end of it.. Seems like Nero Media Center allright. So, all you did was install it and voilá! I presume.

  • Wow great update, 1.80. Did not see it coming until I saw the ps3 wanted to update today.

Please explain how you managed this? Is it using Nero Media Center as one said in the forum, with a link to this page?

    Freaking awesome sony!

  • mingeeta, any chance we can get some help on this. You have a website?

  • sweet, thanks for the update news

  • Awesome. How is the frame rate? Any lag?

  • no lag on avi SD material, VOB files are perfect , as they are basically mpg anyway, and TS files are perfect at 1080i >4GB !! :)

  • its transcoded on the fly at original quality

  • but its mpeg2, the name is only avi.

  • So is the quality the same as the original???

  • So how do you get it to work?
