What is minimal? It's all relative. Bread and a slice of ham is pretty minimal, but create the bread from raw ingredients. Butcher the pig. Not so minimal. For a car commercial, this is pretty basic. Black and white. Ink and paper. A sketch. Simple. The process to get there maybe not so much. Don't be pretentious nards.

Honestly I really don't think the video itself is minimalism. I agree the idea of a pen and a large marker on white is minimalist. But the video itself is loud, fast, the point of view changing rapidly, swerving and swirling around the dueling writing utensils, who are writing furiously, making loud engine noises. None of that seems like minimalism to me. The video is of minimalistic ideas, the but the video itself isn't minimalism.

Good observation tassietiger2! That's were a cut was made to streamline the timing of the movie. :-)

It's a great advert. One small mistake I see at about the 20 second mark. The large pen that runs out of ink is rolling in the opposite direction to what it should be. The momentum shows it going one way and it should have continued in that direction yet it goes the other way.
