the reason why it sound poorly is because:

-your FOIL IS PRESSED to center of the PAPERPLATE... It should have space for the air...

-your FOIL is TOO SMALL to cover the plate properly and is not SEALED PROPERLY that's why the air is coming in and out..

The device is round with wires coming out of the center to look like a real speaker but it isn't. Even if it does work (which it doesn't), the power needed for a speaker this size would not be attainable from a battery powered Mp3 player.
