OMG freshwaterrose! How can you even compare the US dancers to the ones from the UK. The US are so much better. I mean look at Benji and Heidi or at Kayla and Kupono. The number from the latest season where Alex and Twitch danced hip hop is better than anything from the UK version I´ve seen here on youtube... And no I am not from the US, I´m from Sweden.

It was live but what the camera saw at the start (ie: the breaking of the glass) was filmed before hand, then it switches to them dancing live for the rest of the dance.

Brian Friedman said it's like music video's. He usually choreograph's the pop jazz routines in the US version. Pop is jazz and hip-hop combined.

Can see that having the candy glass gave it more and can also see that they could not have had it in the live show as alot can go wrong with it and they all have a lot of floor work where even though it is candy glass they could have hurt them. After Robbie was out with his shoulder you'd pre record the beginning of the dance to protect your show. They did it without the glass for the live audience, it's only the TV broadcast that had an edit mix.
