The last time these parrots were seen in Eastern Australia was when a dead bird was discovered by the side of a road in the 1970s. Please tell me you have been in contact with your Eastern Australia counterparts... As far as the world knows, there are only three ground parrots, the NZ Kakapo (Critically endangered), the Ground Parrot (striking similarity to this sweet bird) and the Night Parrot (not seen since the '70's)
@verticalsmurf Eastern Ground Parrots are classified Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, about 4000 are still breeding in the wild. It's the Night Parrot that is very endangered, and possibly extinct.

There have been sightings of the rarer one in the southern highlands of NSW
