  • I like your sign on the barn .

  • You said M1 Garand was first semi auto rifle be issued to any mayor army in any numbers for the first time? But what about Mondragon rifle? That was issued in smaller numbers far before that, wasnt it? I think M1 garand was first semi-auto rifle to enter service as general issue rifle. Not saying anything against Garand, i love Garand and im gonna buy one sometimes this year. Nice vid by the way.

  • What should I look for when picking an M1 Garand ?

  • Comment removed

  • If I had to I would bet my life on the Garand. 30.06 is a killer. The Civilian Marksmanship Program will ship directly to your house if you qualify. Check out the CMP website. You need to be a member of a CMP Affiliated club such as American Legion, M1 Collectors Club or your state rifle association. Prices are less than $600.

  • that gun won ww2 fucking love that gun

  • @XxJ0keRxSwaggxX - Don't forget the Mosin! Played just as important a part.

  • BUY BACK THEM GARANDS!!!!!!!!!!! im 12 and i love that gun you cant have enough of the M1

  • in WW2 the springfield M1s where made to hold the clip until the gun is fully empty to prevent bullet waste

  • Haha ulitimate shtf rifle rite next to the ar,ak,m1 carbine, and mini14

  • money can change hands too quickly in korea, doesn't matter south north or laos anywhere in that area. this rifle is a staple of american heritage, but would we be buying them back at the cost they bought them years ago or some inflated ridiculous price? hate obama all you want, but find out facts before you start name bashing.

  • @jason12xxx I pay respect 2 this rifle it saved many vets lives and plus I got family in the armed forces using it for ceremonial use

  • If I was president I would allow em back :D who's with me

  • Buen vídeo, una pregunta cuanto sale el M1 Garand

  • I want three...

  • my grandpaw called it "M1 Thumb" but i suppose it doesnt make a difference :p

  • FUCK U OBAMA YOU PIECE OH SHIT!

  • @dsfghfdstfnyjmyfyfgb i'm not 100% sure so i'm gonna ask: how's the economy in the u.s. lately?

  • Pow....Pow....Pow....Pow....Pow PLING

  • id take a 303 instead...

  • @tbrowniscool m1 garands r far superior

  • @smallblockchevytom no there not.

  • great review and God bless!

  • Do you have to be 21 to sign the petition?

  • Best Garand video on YouTube!!

  • I so want one! lol such an amazing chunk of history.

  • you are horrible at loading it...

  • I signed the petition. I also started a petition of my own to get the Tigr, the civilian version of the Dragunov SVD imported again. Check out the video that I made about it if you're interested.

  • M1 Garand is such a great beautiful rifle! it's a shame that "BASTARD!" Obama banned it, what an asshole jerk he is.

  • How would you react if you got a Karabiner 98k pointed at you?

  • PING!

  • and then he gives a bullshit reason it may fall into criminal hands??? WTF why would criminals use an 8 shot 30-06 when they can get an ak type rifle for less or even automatics whose ammo is cheaper and would be more effective. DO THEY REALLY THINK CRIMINALS FOLLOW THE LAW?! if they did theyd be called law abiding citizens. and everyone (cept the dumbass liberals) can see that m1s are mainly gotten for historical significance. fucking dumbass liberals. how do they have such a flawed arguement

  • @fkhan96 I agree. When you think about all the black market weaponry that is out there, an M1 is not a hot item for thugs.

  • @fkhan96 I know right! what a stupid excuse I'll tell why he's doing this, it's because he wants to take our freedoms away by taking our guns away...because then we can't rebel against him and his bed partner cronies they'll have a better time ruling our us and oppress easier by taking our guns away!

  • @fkhan96 Liberals will be the downfall of our country if we don't anything about them, I'm glad to read your comment.

  • if i had voting power, obama wont have my vote (too bad im still 15 ): )

  • Great video, very informative. I recently purchased an M1 Garand and I totally agree that it is a very balanced rifle.

  • Really want one of these bad. What's the price range?

  • i got something to say to the m14 fuck the m14 m1 garand forever

  • @fireblaze876 bro i 100% agree!

  • Sootch grow a beard again you look like a badass with a beard :D

  • I fuckin hate Obama

  • @BarrelRoll7 Ya, but Obama would round house kick Chuck right in the head....Had, too sorry.

  • @BarrelRoll7 Amen! I want an M1 and he ain't gonna stop me!!!

  • @BarrelRoll7 I fuckin hate you/ the tea party.

  • @LiVeskater1414 the tea party has done nothing wrong to you there just a group of ordinary citizens just worried and concerned about our country's future and freedom why don't you worry about Obama and his cronies trying to rid our freedom and brain wash us into Socialism which is very disasterous and very dangerous to human life and human free will! if not then Socialism and tyranny is your bed partner of the damned.

  • @LiVeskater1414 Go away.

  • @BarrelRoll7 Amen to that man! Obama is nothing but a freedom hating freedom taking BASTARD!! Socialist Wolf! that needs to be voted out I really hope and pray he does not get re-elected in 2012 before he successfully destroy our country and our way of life...I'm really worried about our country's future.

  • @Kakkerot86 Well said.... in fact, PERFECTLY said!

  • @aabceacba I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who is also pissed off against Obama and his cronies, thanks for agreeing with me and the comment as well.

  • @Kakkerot86 My pleasure.

  • @BarrelRoll7 Thumbs up for you! I completely agree!

  • @BarrelRoll7

Why? You should hate no one. Even people you know nothing about.

  • @MyMainKneeGrow I hope you know that he has ruined this country with all the shit he's doing.

  • Never understood why Garand went with the en-bloc system of loading instead of a detachable box magazine. It's not as if no one knew how to make one. Anyone know why the en-bloc clip was the final design choice?

  • @jtschau The Army, at the time, was not interested in a detachable magazine rifle. They Specifically wanted a clip fed rifle. The purpose was to keep it streamlined. Eventually the Army smartened up and adopted the M14. Thats it in a nut shell.

  • @TheGamingGuns agreed.

  • i dunno, the m1 garand if a nice piece of history, but let's be honest...signing petitions just to get them because they 'won world war 2' is like pushing for the springfield bolt action because it 'won world war 1', or pushing for the muskets used by the union army because they 'won the civil war'.

there are simply better, more modern or greater firepower rifles out there. it's a great piece of history, but that's about it.

  • Gewhr 43 is a piece of shit nazi poopshooter

  • @MrElirali Not only that, they jams! JAMS RIGHT ON MY ASS RIGHT OUT THE RANGE! THE RANGE MAN ALMOST MADE ME PAY FOR THE MALFUNCTION!!

  • what about the SVT-40 or the Gewhr 43?

  • no question about it the m1 garand is the top of the food chain, and given a choice between ar15, ak or m1 Im picking the m1!

  • @trevinor3 the garand is a nice rifle, and great in its time. however, if you're talking long range, large caliber semi-automatic rifles, then, alas, the m1a is the superior weapon.

magazine fed instead of 'clips' that can result in thumb injuries, and 20 rounds instead of 8.

  • how much would 1 of thos cost

  • @toxicninja99999

    anywhere from $500(CMP) to $1100+

  • My dad and I are thinking about buying a used M1 Garand. Does anyone know where I could find a decent priced M1 Garand?

  • @crazym16dude24 My grandfather recently bought an M1 Garand, I could ask him where he got his from and get back to you.

  • @TheEliteSystem Sure, thanks.

  • LOVE THE SIGN...LOL THAT'S COOL...:)

  • i love my garand. i just wish i could shoot it more :C 30-06 makes my wallet noticeably lighter :p

  • its also techniclly still in use today (silent drills and gaurds us them in dc)

  • I swear to god if anyone says "no it's 30.06" I will come to your house and kill you in your sleep.

  • ...oops... M-1 Garand or the M-1 Carbine... or whatever the historians want to name it and then rename it... because soon... it's going to renamed the M-1 Hillary 29.9 caliber... hehehe...

  • ...now ...I know that the super brainy Special Delta Forces... and their greedy and business oriented contractors... "think" that the noise and sound that those M-1 carbines make is bad and not a good idea... hmmm... yet there is a reason for everything... and the main reason for the metallic sound hitting the ground is... is to see and to check and to self check your own hearing... because this is before the Pentagon invented and issued ear protection for the troops... HA?! ...hmmm...simple!!!!

  • Nicely produced and informative. Looked like a professional production even with the outakes at the end.

  • The Garand is my favorite of all US service rifles. Just plain OUTSTANDING. Design, feel, function are all flawless.

  • Not to be a poop but from what the people who knew Mr. John C. Garand claim that his name was pronounced Gare-end, not Gah-Rand, also it wasn't the first semi auto rifle to come to an army in any number, it was the first semi auto rifle to come in mass production, somewhat larger quantity as the first ever semi auto rifle was the Mexican Mondragon rifle made in 1887 and used in the Mexican rev, WW1, WW2 etc

  • Damn fine rifle.

  • my grandpa sed this gun in the Korean war. i love these. but he said at night on patrol, he preferred the m1 Carbine version mainly for the rate of fire n all

  • I got my M1 a year ago... It is my very favorite gun. Great rifle to shoot. Are you shooting .30-06 or .308? The video makes it sound quiet...when I know it is NOT. Careful using modern ammo as some of it is too powerful and can bend your op-rod. They have vents you can install to prevent problems on the gas tube pretty cheaply.

  • Hi Sootch! Speaking of world wars, you don't haven't done a review on the Lee Enfield, have you? Looking forward to that, if you haven't done so yet. Looking forward to more vids!

  • Hi Sootch! Speaking of world wars, you don't haven't done a review on the Lee Enfield, have you? Looking forward to that, if you haven't done so yet. Looking forward to more vids!

  • i dont want to get stabbed by an 98ks bayo either ; )

  • I saw you had a manual from the CMP program but I didn't hear you mention the program or the fact that an interested person can get a M1 Garand at a good price by meeting the criteria set forth by CMP. For those that don't know, CMP is the Civilian Marksmanship Program. It was enacted and still funded by congress. If a person puts forth a little effort, they can purchase a military surplus M1 at a good price. I just went to the website and it is evident they have made it easier to qualify.

  • I love the outtakes.

  • I saw online that these usually go for around 700 nowadays? Such an amazing rifle

  • @firearmsluver I got mine for $775....worth EVERY penny. CMP sells some for as low as $595.

  • How much could someone buy one of those for these days?

  • @ds10363 Check out CMP. Also most gun shops will have them pass through but they rarely stay long. I've seen them on CMP for $595 and up to $800, 900... I've also seen them for $1500. Mine was $775.

  • You do not review the M1 Garand, you worship it! ;)

  • Very cool rifle, it seems like they would have lost a lot of magazines in battle with it popping out like that.

  • Sootch! You know the 30 06 is my favorite round. I almost felt sorry for you for running out of 06 rounds. Great review though. :)

  • Awesome rifle! Read where the troops in WWII would carry an extra clip to throw on the ground to make the distinct ping sound of an empty clip. When the enemy showed himself they'd load into them with a full one on the ready.

  • I would so love to own one of these, but the prices are so high on them that it will likely take until I am retired to own one. What's worse, there probably won't be any available by the time that happens. Anyway, Great Vid Brother! Keep crankin' 'em out!

  • Its a shame that the stock S.Korea wants to sell back to us won't be purchased back for civilians.

  • I love your vids sir. Very informative video full of History! We love it.

  • emailed my congresswoman to inquire why our president would bar the purchase of an American icon or as I said to her "an 8 round target rifle".

  • Sootch I love your videos but you still got some facts wrong man. I have collected M1's for a LONG time. Trust me "tanker"= fake.

  • @lfr5007 Not quite. There were efforts to drastically shorten the M1 to make it a better weapon for PARATROOPERS (and tank crews, though from what I have read the Airborne were the main "pushers" of the shortened Garand) , though they never made it past the prototype phase.

  • If Patton liked it I like it!

  • Love the sign on your shed "There is nothing in Here worth your Life!" Where'd ya get that Sootch?

  • My favorite rifle ever! Only 9 months till I can buy one myself (I'm 17).

  • if only the "common" person could afford one.. i know i cant... and the 34bucks for 20 rounds makes it worse...

  • The most EPIC firearm of the 20th century in my opinion.

  • Personal favorite, I want one!

  • Thumbs up if you signed Rand Paul's petition, and want the US to allow importation of the M1 Garands and M1 Carbines from Korea.

  • @SrgGoofy Instead, why can't dumbasses clusterfucks from SA reproduce those rifles in better shapes?

  • @SrgGoofy oh fuck yeah.

  • Hey Sootch,

Your video's always come out with such good picture quality and audio quality. Wonder if you would mind sharing what camcorder you use?

    Bob

  • I <3 the M1 Garand! One of my favorite firearms of all time!

  • I want one of those so bad I can taste the gun powder!!

Everyone make sure to sign the petition!!! and let all your gun buddies know about it also!

We can get these fabulous weapons back to the U.S. where they belong and be appreciated by those of us who are aware what this rifle has done for our freedom and the brave soldiers that used them!

Nice one ya got there sootch!! I am SO friggin jealous!!

  • I am SOOOO PISSED that 0bama seems to have squashed the re-importation of 1 million American taxpayer owned Garands from S. Korea! I really want one of these beautiful pieces of American History!!

As of now (2/25/11 5:51pm) this comment above, that I posted, has 48 "Thumbs Ups" but has been bumped off the top of the list of highest rated comments. I wonder why this is? Very curious! The only other comment in the highest rated list has only 14 "Thumbs Ups"

  • @FrontCortex they expire after so long unless the channel owner pins them above the comments

  • can you modernize it like sks yugoslavian rifle from tapco?

  • sooch,these are excellent videos

  • Yeahaw sootch finally reviewed the M1 Garand :D

  • I really miss my Garand. I never, ever should have gotten rid of it. You know, that looks an awful like my old one... Wait a minute... I sold it when I lived in Greenville...THIEF! THIEF! Just kidding. Another great vid!

  • petition signed, thank you

  • wonderful rifle, thanks for sharing

  • Great video Sootch.I was waiting for that distinctive ping sound after all rounds were fired and heard it at the end of the video. What a fantastic rifle they are. Thanks

  • M1 Garand= :D

  • I love M1Grands but they are so expensive. In WWII when soldiers came across a tall obstacle two men would hold the rifle horizontally to hoist other soldiers over. Try that nowadays with an m4/m16 it would break.

  • @Kliffton415 You can't really compare the Garand with the M16, two different rifles for two different jobs.

  • @FutureMarine1775USA I'm just pointing out how well built the M1s are made.

  • I'm so jealous. That is one rifle I want to purchase but it's hard to find one in good condition.

  • you look so deadly with that rifle... dont rob this guy

  • Obama heres your sighn, my middle finger. vote this guy out of office.

  • I saw 5 neg. on this review, I just cant belive that anyone would give such a great review a negitive, This man has spent a lot of his time to help others with his knowledge. Fred

  • awesome review.... next i want to see is M1 carbine, M14 and the FNFAL!

  • Thank you sir!

  • I believe the BAR will out-shoot the Garand. (Garand, when pronounced correctly, rhymes with "errand", as in gair-rend).

  • @hooya1111 The BAR is more of a support weapon, whereas the Garand is an actual battle rifle.

  • The M1 Garand is such an amazing rifle, not just because it's American, but because it was such an effective combat rifle that gave us an advantage over the Axis powers who did not issue semi automatics in large numbers. The G43 and SVT-40 had detachable magazines that were 10+1.

  • dammit obama. stop trying to limit weapons and their ownership in general.

  • Were all m1 garands 30 cal ?

  • @jihall27 No. I have a M1 Garand chambered in .308. The Navy also chambered a few for .308.

  • at 4:00 you said bullet just some correcting sootch the right term is cartridge my friend just wanted togive you some good corrective criticism

  • :49 Oh wow that sound is all to familiar!

  • i trained with these rifles in njrotc in highschool, they didnt funtion of course, the firing pin was removed and a steel rod was jammed down the barrel. with the rod in the barrel that thing weighed a ton, and we had to swing it all around during drills and stuff, it sucked

  • love this gun!

  • the lee enfield was brought in in 1895... what you expect lol

  • obama making laws that aren't going through congress.... YAY TREASONOUS FUCKER FOR PRESIDENT! >.> great review!

  • @sootch00 hey at 4:20 you refer to the protection for the front sight as a "hood." I think those are called wings and a hood would refer to a fully enclosed protective design such as that found over the front sight of an MP5 or an HK91. double check me on this and let me know.

  • @Sootch00 Regarding Korean Garands, You're going to deeply hate me, Sootch...

  • Awesome rifle! Great review.

  • there is a special corner of hell for obama and all anti gunners nice garand sootch

  • cool beard i love the garand another of my favourites is the lee enfield

  • love that rifle

  • oh yeah, truely a "great" rifle of the same generation.

  • I want one so bad.

  • Nice job Don....

  • How accurate is it at 300 yards?

  • Aww, I was expecting "get off my lawn" in the final scene. BOOO!

  • 0:42 is that a spanish CETME on the back?

  • @fordmustang5577 Yes sir, The Cetme review is coming soon : )

  • @fordmustang5577 wow that's great i'm spanish and I was wishing you made that review!!

    congratulations for your videos!

  • Sootch, did you get your M1A from CMP and if so what grade was it? I ordered from CMP Feb 2. Got a confirmation that all my paperwork was in order a week ago. I ordered the "Service Grade Sprinfield Special" item RM1SASSP. It's suppose to be collector grade metal, but with new wood. Ordered a can of Greek ammo too "192 rds in enbloc clips and bandoleers".

  • no ... the russians were the reason you won the ww2 ...

  • From what I've read the M1 was the weapon that worked in the extreme cold during the battle of the Chosin Reservoir in Korea. This was my basic training weapon in the early 60's and I always liked it better than the M14 or M2 carbine issued to me at a later date. With the right hand holding back the bolt handle while the thumb pushed down the loaded spring clip and a little practice you could easily avoid getting an M1 thumb . Us lefties had to be a little more careful.

    Nice review. Thank you.

  • @divemor one thing I have read about Korea is that the troops had to learn to wipe ALL grease and lube from their rifles to avoid issues in the extreme cold. The rifle would run all day dry without issue, but the lubricants would freeze and cause issues..

  • good review thanks for youm time.

  • Funny not to see loading from a stripper clip like in documentaries/movies.

  • How does it compare to the M14?

  • @NovaScotiaNewfie IMHO the M14 is a much better "battle rifle" due the ability to switch magazines quickly and the expanded capacity of those mags...for a pure shooting rifle I think the M1 and the .30-06 is a bit better for reaching out and touching someone...plus, you can still get a CMP M1 for under $600, an M1A from Springfield will set you back over $1200...

  • @NovaScotiaNewfie The M-14 was developed as a replacement for the M-1 Garand, in order to address some of the Garand's shortfalls against newer weapons (automatic firing and box magazines being big ones). The rounds used (30-06 vs 7.62x51mm) favor the 30-06 used in the Garand in a similar weight bullet, but only slightly. Potential range is very similar. The original specs for the guns vary, but the M-14 is much more modifiable than the Garand, due to continued military use and being younger.

  • I love that rifle!

  • Nice video, always love your vids. Thanks for giving so much.
