For all the slamming of GWB in this thread, he didn't confiscate private companies, loot them to pay off the unions and rip off investors. He didn't take over 20% of the economy and put it in the government's control (health care). He didn't try to cripple the energy industry and drive companies out of business for ideological reasons. Or triple the US debt.

The real problem with this cover is that it was not clear that it was lampooning the GOP campaign. Far too many people believe the lies and smears.

Thing is many conservatives and particularly their Christian evangelical supporters believe every single reference in that cartoon to be true. Right-wing pundits like Anne Coulter constantly raise these issues, and she herself famously brings up Obama's middle name. Conservative media mentions Obama's indonesian upbringing and constantly talks about Wright's speech, Farrakhan and even Hamas. It's almost like the media knows that if mentioned enough the ignorant masses will make the association.

I thought the cover was hilarious. The artist that did this one is very good. The characters look so much like the Obamas.

Don't get the wrong idea, though. I love Barack and Michelle, and will be voting for Barack in November, but I realize that political cartoons have always gone over the top during election years. The Republican fears are so ridiculous that I have already laughed them off, so it's no big deal. The New Yorker magazine saw an opportunity, and they went for it. Very clever.

I subscribe to the New Yorker, and receive it faithfully every week.

Some how this week's copy was not delivered.

I'm hoping it was just delayed.

I tried to buy one this morning, but they were sold out.

If I can't get another one delivered, I will truly be disappointed, I want to read the articles.

The cover is only offensive to some.
