what a lovely name for a woman and an oh so appropriate song and now I've had my wine and can sit and listen to this masterpiece once again...sending me to another place, another state of mind, another dream...after all... that is why we listen and love music like this
Beautiful song! Flaco does his best to improvise but Joel Guzman would kill this with his wizardry on the wheezbox! Thanks for posting this great piece Yosh!
305nut: I checked the version you mentioned and it is a nice schmaltzy performance that goes well with postcards but Ry and the boys have picked it's bones here to show the roots and the culture.
I like them too but they are also wannabees compared to the mythic 'originals'...I first heard a version of this from the 30's and it was a version of an original.
What is the song called, I have never heard it before and it sounds great! Guitars a pit piezo plasticky at first but it gets better. Thanks a lot for posting, were you at the gig?
Crude,Los Indios Tabajares. I remember my dad had an album of theres in the 60's. I never thought i would ever hear there name again.Did they ever gain any popularity? I dont know anything about them
Thank you for the audio track! One of my most favorite songs, and perhaps my most favorite version (next to Roy Smeck's). The film was by Les Blank and was only released on laserdisc in Japan. I wish Ry would see fit to have it re-released in the USA !
a gem

This comment has received too many negative votes show
this version sucks.. the original of los indios tabarajas was the best period.. you cant compare theirs to this guy's wannabe version..

The song is Maria Elena
Marty Robbins sings it and quite well, I might add

It's Maria Elena. Los Indios Tabajares had a minor hit with it in the '60's. Is Ry Cooder awesome or what?
AHHh, shades of KFAT, Gilroy.

Ry is one of the most tasteful players on the planet. I love everything he does, even the stuff I don't like!

Here's music that can be listened to over and over and is more appreciated each time. Beautiful arrangement. Wish I had the video! Thanks
