Thanks for posting this. Many fans never got a chance to see Watchtower outside of Texas so this a real treat for the rest of us. Energetic Disassembly was a fantastic album and way ahead of its time.
the thing with watchtower and cynic is that they exhibit a lot of technique with almost no emphasis on melody. What's the point of making ur music hard to play when it's no good to listen to right? however personally i love watchtower and cynic and dream theater too. for me they all contribute to my entertainment..embrace variety because variety makes u more powerful as a musician, and as a person
dream theater can suck my balls man, they are not even progresssive metal,if you want the real thing,something that means a real challenge for you as a musician go and listen watchtower or cynic otherwise,someone is selling you a version of metallica with a little more technique..and that's all

odd times, atonality, modulation, impressive technique for all players. They can be straightforward but DT was one of the defining progressive bands.
I'm not a DT fan, btw.

I think Cynic is pretty expressive, and very melodic.
I think it's a fair criticism of Watchtower or Spiral Architect.

Watchtower forged new ground, creating what became known as math metal. They helped to influence bands such as Dream Theater.
