@1m1nth3m0b2 Right now Im watching this movie. Theres the scene where they're tapping spots on the roof to check if the roof weakened. Then the guy falls thru the roof. Im not a firefighter. I dont claim to fully understand that scene. But indulge me: hear out this suggesstion. Why dont you guys hook onto a safety cord, and suspend yourself from your ladder truck, when you do a roof walk. then if the roof caves in, you're still hanging from the ladder, and you can be pulled up.
@thevealchop68 There's a lot of signs you should see before a roof caves in, but essentially roof work is a calculated risk that needs to happen rapidly. You have about 15 minutes after a fire starts (not from when you get there) before a truss roof will be too unstable for you to go up and ventilate. Tieing off and measuring rope to where you want it to catch you would take way too long, and you'd still be dangling over a hole that is now venting fire which would still kill you within minutes.
i love this movie, it just sucks that critics didnt like it. i think they thought it would be a straight forward firefighter movie but it was more than that. it was the journey of one man and his struggles of being a dedicated firefighter and father. but the trailer dont really show that so i guess it was misleading to people
i love this movie it is awesome. it was told great, not sure why it got mixed reviews. i went on a date to see this movie, then went with a old friend from highschool to see this, then took a group of friends to see it. then had a girl come to my dorm room to watch it (wont go into detail) lol but this movie is awesome
A movie has never made me cry before, but this one really hit me ;( It makes me angry when i see reviews saying its a bore, its not realistic and giving it 1 and a half to 2 stars. Why is it the great movies are always given bad reviews whilst the rubbish ones are always raved about?
I myself am a Vol. FF, and I have never seen a more accurate depiction of firefighters. We do all that pranking and joking around too...I only wish WE had a pool table. haha
Reminds me that fire fighters don't get the public attention they deserve, both the ones that do this as their job and the one who do it voluntarily ...
can someone tell me what is the name of the song is playing at the end of the movie i am firefigther too and i will like to play this song on my fire house station please help me out .
Firefighting is one of the most rewarding things you could ever do. I started as a volunteer and my love for it grew to the point where I am now taking my University courses in Firefighting to go professional. Even if you have fears nothing jolts your heart like hearing that page go off, nothing matters but the people you're going for, you could be 5 feet or 500 feet off the ground and you wouldn't even notice. It is so rewarding.
Firefighting ain't a job for people who 'want' it. You've got to 'be' it. B4 u sign the forms and chant the pledges, ask yourself this: if I put you in the above situation, stuck, just like Jack Morrison, would you go in without hesitation?
There's no right answer. But the decision you make: that's the one that'll decide whether you should be a firefighter. And I think you know which one that is.
I watched this film the other day, it's really good. It really makes you realise how amazing firefighters really are, I mean they risk their lives everyday to save other people, it doesn't get much more heroic than that.
@Chiefksam go to your local fire station. The ones near where I live always need volunteers for something, start there and communicate to them that you want to be a fireman. Goodluck
Best place to start is your local fire station and talk to them. That's what I did, I asked a lot of questions, and got a lot of feedback, and I ended up a volunteer here in Washington state. Currently taking college courses for fire investigation and hope to one day start a carer out of this. I love it. And if your urge is strong enough, so will you. But ya gotta go and talk to them!
in the end of the movie he is in that controlroom seeing that noone can get to him to help and knowing that he can not survive this knowing that hes going to die , and to say to the boss take care of my family im saying goodby that made me cray big time
Once you get into firefighting you realize how unrealistic Backdraft was. It was entertaining though. They definately did their homework on this movie. It pretty much showed the job the way it really is for the most part and made a great movie in the process. Awesome job.
this was a great movie i choked up a little bit in it. but truthfully i would say that BACKDRAFT was a better movie. but this was still a great movie!!
The movies great, but also veeery unrealistic. I'm a fireman myself, and it kinna sucks that firefighting always is displayed so unrealistic in TV...but anyway it's a great movie honoring firemen...at least someone does that ;-)

Maybe if they actually sounded the freakin' roof that wouldn't happen. Of course, I'm sorry to say I've come across a few guys who really seem to thing that qualifies as sounding a roof.
@iraqibodybuilder you can still be a firefighter, in firefighting we all faces our fears whenever we go into burning buildings... If you go full-time just make sure to be in an engine company.
@iraqibodybuilder have to overcome it. Every year in the fire academy there is always one person afraid of heights and buy the end they will climb any ladder.
