@1m1nth3m0b2 Right now Im watching this movie. Theres the scene where they're tapping spots on the roof to check if the roof weakened. Then the guy falls thru the roof. Im not a firefighter. I dont claim to fully understand that scene. But indulge me: hear out this suggesstion. Why dont you guys hook onto a safety cord, and suspend yourself from your ladder truck, when you do a roof walk. then if the roof caves in, you're still hanging from the ladder, and you can be pulled up.

@thevealchop68 There's a lot of signs you should see before a roof caves in, but essentially roof work is a calculated risk that needs to happen rapidly. You have about 15 minutes after a fire starts (not from when you get there) before a truss roof will be too unstable for you to go up and ventilate. Tieing off and measuring rope to where you want it to catch you would take way too long, and you'd still be dangling over a hole that is now venting fire which would still kill you within minutes.

i love this movie, it just sucks that critics didnt like it. i think they thought it would be a straight forward firefighter movie but it was more than that. it was the journey of one man and his struggles of being a dedicated firefighter and father. but the trailer dont really show that so i guess it was misleading to people

Firefighting is one of the most rewarding things you could ever do. I started as a volunteer and my love for it grew to the point where I am now taking my University courses in Firefighting to go professional. Even if you have fears nothing jolts your heart like hearing that page go off, nothing matters but the people you're going for, you could be 5 feet or 500 feet off the ground and you wouldn't even notice. It is so rewarding.

Best place to start is your local fire station and talk to them. That's what I did, I asked a lot of questions, and got a lot of feedback, and I ended up a volunteer here in Washington state. Currently taking college courses for fire investigation and hope to one day start a carer out of this. I love it. And if your urge is strong enough, so will you. But ya gotta go and talk to them!

Once you get into firefighting you realize how unrealistic Backdraft was. It was entertaining though. They definately did their homework on this movie. It pretty much showed the job the way it really is for the most part and made a great movie in the process. Awesome job.

It wasn't too bad. It was miles ahead of Backdraft on realism. The only real complaint I had was the roof collapse scene. They're just tapping the roof, and a guy falls in. Well, no shit! Maybe if they actually sounded the freakin' roof that wouldn't happen. Of course, I'm sorry to say I've come across a few guys who really seem to thing that qualifies as sounding a roof.

This is probably one of the best movies i have ver seen. It was unbeleivable. it was funny, powerful, gripping, and not to mention sad... This movie touches you in ways you could never imagine... Its a perfect way to show how our firefighters, everyday heroes, help make our towns and cities a safe place to be. Also in the movie, an amazing song: Shine Your Light by Robbie Roberston.
