Als 't om dand tal ( weet echt niet hoe j t spelt) gaat.. Is Dennis Saddal toch zeker de beste in het vak. Constante stampoe-heid bij die gast. Goeie zaak, Dennis!
I was on a website a while back, and it had some clips of people singing in a rural village in Western Bihar, and I tell you....it sounded EXACTLY the same, minus the dhantaal, yes the dhantaal was founded in the Caribbean, Trinis say they invented it, Guyanese say they did, you guys say you did, but who knows? I know its definitely a improvised diaspora instrument.
But I believe the dialect you guys are singing in is in "bhojpuri".
very nice music !!! Keep up the good work with the Harmonium, Dholak and singing. Just out of curiosity though, how do you people become so involved in this 'taan' music? I've been somewhat raised around it but I didn't know it was such a big hit outside of my homeland. Also, where does the name 'Bhaitak Gana' derive from? Is it just a name used to describe the band or groups of people who sing only these types of songs or does it represent something else?
I don't think it exactly "evolved on the ships", this music genre from India is found in rural Bhojpuri areas of Bihar, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh, this same type of music is still sung there in the village, almost exactly the same way.
The Dhanthal was "founded" on the twin island repbulic of Trinidad & Tobago by the East Indians
