  • what do you use the TS for?

  • the jazz intro got me excited...too bad its this dickload again

  • i looked up "triple cock balls" and got this

  • some parts in this song scream Pantera, its pretty sexy

  • with sim amps (i have the pod hd) you have to do much more with eq, compression, and the most fucking problem is that you must fix it into the mix with drums. so you need good ears for the reverb and maybe a delay too. so go and buy a tube amp, because fatness is what you are trying to get ha? :)

  • if you are a real fanatic guitar player or recording engineer, you learn to love tube amps! as we can listen, the tube amp fits straight into the mix, the axe fx seems somewhere in horizon... thats why i bought a dual rectifier, with it you can play any style and it will always sounds great. for me it sounds like the real amp isn't too much mixed, maybe some fucking frequencies outfiltered and a little bit compression and its done.

  • I tried out the Axe Standard for a few days last year. The Axe's "Rectifier" model was the closest to the actual amp. The difference is just as you hear in this vid. The Axe is just a bit darker. The Axe was not as close with Mark models or Diezel models. I can't comment on the others because I am not familiar with them.

    Great demo.

  • El sonido de el AXE es mas plástico

  • Great video. Good comparison.

I couldn't make out the difference at first, but with earphones on, I realized the amplifier sounds grittier and..more solid?

However, I actually like the Axe Fx sound more. There, I said it.

I'm not saying either is better. I listen to more European classical than Metal anyway so that may have to do with the kind of sound I prefer as opposed to some of you.

  • great video, the real amp wins without a doubt. listen with good headphones & and the real amp easily wins. but the axe is a really great model.

one problem i have with the digital revolution is the same issue dave grohl has with digital drums, it takes the human difference out, and everyone sounds the same.

also it is not inspiring to plug into digital amps and effects as a song writer.

and the end of the day, live, nothing can drive a 4*12 cabinet like a 100 watt tube amp.

  • @njdnjdnjd

I would be all about the Axe if it sounded better or as good as a real amp. But it doesn't. However, I may end up buying one (again) if I need to live in a condo or townhouse.

  • they sound close

  • did you also use a tubescreamer sim infront of the recto sim in the axe fx?

  • Real one sounds way better :(

  • Cab sims like recabinet or just mic/cabs from the Axe FX?

  • When just listening to the audio, I couldn't tell a difference at all. Watching the video, I caught hints of a bit higher presence/treble sound in the actual amp, but that may have also been because I saw the switch in the video and just thought I did...can't wait until I can afford an Axe-Fx...

  • nothing sounds better than the real thing, but the axe fx is pretty nice

  • To be fair, the recto sounds better... but only by like 1%

  • @no1matt Yeah only slightly but I think it would have been harder to tell had he turned up the bass on the Axe Fx just a bit to closer match the sound of the MB.

  • As far as the video sound there is less resonance with the Axe FX but nonetheless is does sound kinda close otherwise.

  • I think the actual Mesa sounds better.

  • Sounds amazing!

What is your opinion comparing Axe Fx and the PODs, including the XtPro, X3 and the newer HDs running in a setup like this?

    Cheers!

  • are you running the axe fx straight or are you using a tube power amp?

  • @arsehole420 Just read the video description.

  • the mesa sounds a tad better distorted

  • Ok either my hearing is completely shot or that's disturbingly good

  • if you play the recto setting but through the power amp of the mesa and through a cab how close are they then?

Im considering getting one but would probably set it up through a power amp and cab to retain a more real tone. But instead of my multi effects and pedals and 6505 head just have all that in the axe fx.

  • hi, i tried dual rectifire and many other amps single rectifire peavy 5150 ect. , with my guitar and other guitars, is normal that i always got much feedback in close room at about 1/4 (9 o'clock) volume? Palm muting is not useful i always listen fuuuuuu! with my mesaboogie F50 in close room with almost full gain i can arrive at 1,5/4 (10 o'clock) volume. How can i solve feedback wich is the problem? is normal? thanks for helping

  • what axe fx do you have? standard, ultra, or the newest one?

  • veeeeery impressive, just a bit more compressed frequency in the axe-fx, but very little difference!

  • so, a Blackstar 1x12 cabinet with an 80 watt speaker would be able to handle a Peavey 6505 (120 watts) as long as the volume on the amp isn't louder than like 6.5 or so, right?

  • A real tube amp sounds a lot thicker and has a lot more depth but that Axe Fx unit is a piece of gold.

  • The real boogie is still better... Albeit 5%, but still.

Sure beats hauling a rig though. VERY IMPRESSED!

  • In any case, I bet you can't tell the difference live through a PA at 5 gazillion watts.

  • Mesa has more presence. Ax is close though. If I was recording, definitely the Mesa.

  • @aninstrumentalvision but Im sure Axe fx will sound really really really close to the real thing with a mesa tube poweramp.

  • hello feardse, what do you think of the digidesign Elevenrack? have you ever tried it. on videos it sounds awesome but i would like to know how it compares to the AxeFx since the Elevenrack costs less than half the price of the AxeFx.

the Elevenrack costs 790 euros which i could probably afford but the axeFX costs 2300 euros!

  • the difference is audible but by only a hair :D

  • you know i hate digital amps and modeling and all that because it sounds aweful. and i prefer oldschool amps. but you know the AxeFx is just awesome it's all i ever wanted in a box and it sounds AMAZING. denying the fact that it's good is just because you hate to accept that modern stuff will replace the old school amps.

i hear absolutely no difference between the mesa and axefx in this vid

  • if i were listening to the video without looking at it, i'd be like "i think you accidently used the real amp during the whole vid..."

  • Comment removed

  • I own a mesa dual rec, i fucking hate all those tube failures and shit. i experienced resistor burn out while recording, tube failure with 3 weeks of usage and tube fell out from the amp and shattered into pieces in 8 months of owning a mesa. Im really thinking getting rid of my mesa and get the axe fx.

say if u have a mesa poweramp, will u able to pull an exact mesa tone out of it?

  • this song is boss im so buying it

  • Music is great, singer sucks ass

  • What I want to know is was this mixed and fiddled around with extensively after recording? Because post-recording editing of the sound would make the comparison a little inaccurate.

  • Axe sounds more compressed and a little bit flat againts the Recto, but considerng its size, versatility, and how compact the whole thing is, it is an awsome gear

  • are you using the OD pedal in the effects loop?

  • I don't know why, but the AxeFX sounds more like an Engl than a Dual Rec to me...

  • I like the intro song, db bass+piano!

  • I honestly can't tell the difference between the 2. Sounds great. Which Prestige were you using?

  • I can hear a SLIGHT difference in the beginning (emphasis on slight). The difference is pretty damn miniscule. The axe-fx has a little more high frequencies in it while the miked amp has less. The tone in general is pretty much identical. I don't think anyone could tell the difference.

  • lol is this for real? both sound the same, can barely tell the difference

  • mesa sounds brighter and litle more fresh sounding like..... axe fx is a good tool ...

but ....:) no comparison to a god amp ..for me

once in a studio i try to get it more brillant in highs... but then the problems with digital harsh is coming...

  • vocals sound like shadows fall and opeth smashed into one person. good work

  • Definitely liked the Mesa more in this video. I'm listening on studio monitors at my studio though, i'd agree somebody listening on typical setup "couldn't tell" but that's not a good attitude to take.

  • wow that's very impressive, they are nearly identical. probably only differs since you are using a different cab than axe fx is trying to model or something

  • whats the music ?

  • why is cock and balls in the tags???

  • @ThePyroHobo why not?

  • @fearedse Plus the Recto totally has them >:D

  • @ThePyroHobo Because that song has balls! :D

  • @ThePyroHobo You must have balls to be able own an Axe Fs and a Dual at the same time

  • @ThePyroHobo beacuse the amp has the hugest dick you've ever seen and some enormous balls ... \m/

  • I like the Mesa Boogie a little more. Both sound fantastic though!

  • holy shit i cant tell the difference at all!

but im stupid so dont listen to me...

  • I hate modelers. Anybody remember when Digitech was doin the 2101/2112 etc series.......welcome back to gear made cheap...but WAY overpriced. EVERYONE WENT BACK to real amps......wonder why?? Because these things are loaded with effect drenched and overly compressed settings. I'll keep my amp, and pick up good deals when you guys sell ME yours! GO get a Axe fx!

  • Does the Axe-FX feel as quick/low latency as you want, or does playing through a real head feel better? - Thank you very much. I can't wait to try the new Axe-FX and other modelers for myself.

  • as butt rockish as ive ever heard

  • but rocky song is butt rock

  • I'm going to have a test tomorrow... and I swear this song is going to be playing in my head for the whole hour! Ola, you are one evil dude...!

  • DAmn!!! Amazing emulation!!!

  • The real amp seems to have a bit more of that high end sparkle, but either way you can't go wrong!

  • It's 98% the same.

  • there is a slight difference but the base tone of the amp is definatly there.

  • imma be honest could not tell the difference through my comp speakers (which are pretty good)

maybe in person its different but axe fx is sweet

  • I actually like the Axe Fx more. It's highs are more tamed and it sits better in the mix

  • How is your Mesa Boogie Rectifier 60W 1x12 guitar speaker cabinet is the quallity good or is only because your head is amazing and is it loud enough to play over a drummer for a crowd of say 800 in like a 120 foot gym?

  • both sound really good !

  • mesa boogie hands down.. but you should blend the two sounds I bet it would sound even better!

  • yes there is a difference, but its not a bad thing, both tones are awesome and very usable. I like the idea of the classic idea of cranking a tube amp, micing up a cab with an SM57 etc.... but in the the new age, its much simpler to use somthing like the AXE or Pod

  • And I find it really hard to believe that people honestly can't hear ANY difference between the two tones. I mean the difference isn't like night and day, but it's definitely very noticeable. I've heard another comparison on the net, though, where I couldn't hear any difference between the axe fx and the real deal (I think it was some sorta rectifier comparison posted on ultimatemetal).

  • The Axe sounds a bit muddier and darker, the real deal has sort of more "air" to it, but I'm sure that could be fixed with a bit of EQ.

  • awesome sound dude!!! have you ever played with the axe fx live?

  • @Maxguitarrista sure thing I do it all the time! I have a live video using it... Search for Axe Fx Live Scarpoint

  • @fearedse how do you use the axe fx live?

  • Would you Recommend Axe Fx for some one who wants different amp head sounds, but cant afford a million different heads?

  • @TourettesUnicorn definitely!

  • @fearedse I Love you, to the Extent a man can love another man :)

  • Do you double track your guitars?

  • I need u to come over to my house and dial my amp in for me :)

  • are you endorsed by ibanez by any chance?

  • @59Hellfire Nah, I just enjoy their guitars :)

  • @fearedse thats respectable

  • I can ear more definition and highend on the actual recto, but thats bloody close, aside from that, to my ears.... is there much difference in feel, Ola?

  • So bottom line,Ola, is the Axe-fx a good choice?

  • @bonuzround Depends what your needs are... You will get a very versatile rig if you pair it up with a good poweramp.

  • @fearedse Yeah, mostly for my direct recordings (for memorizing purposes) i think the axe-fx is will be a great to for me. When it comes to power amp, maybe that you take a little bit of time before i replace my RH120 (randall) for some ´grown up´ equipment =) thx for the answer.

  • @bonuzround sorry about the crazy fucking keyboard jumps =)

  • It doesnt sound as good as the mesa but I dont have unlimited money for guitar gear..

But as far as playing does it respond like the real deal? Is it a much fun to play as the mesa?

  • @felipescalador

you gotta have some incredibly sensitive ears to hear subtle frequency variations...

to me they sound exactly the same, even more so after compression, equalization, etc

  • @felipescalador

and yet even more so if this demo is listened to through computer speakers...

  • Really cool demo. I don't hear the difference, emulation has come a long way.

  • Hey man, I hope you answer this!

I got a Mesa Single Rectifier right now, and I'm going through a Mesa Lonestar 27 like yours! From your experience, do you like using the rectifier with the lonestar cab 27 / roadster cab / or the 2x12 recto cab?

  • @Pianoblacks hey dude, totally better with the 2x12 roadster cab. The lonestar cab is great but with the half open back it can't compete with the tightness of the roadster cab.

  • LMAO the dual rec kicks te shit outta it

nothing beats a real amp js

  • @ThatJustHappened14 Listen with your ears, not your eyes. You came into this expecting to say that the amp kicks the shit out of it. I'd bet my life-savings that in a blind test, you couldn't tell the difference of which was which.

  • @penguindredg yea man the axe-fx just sounds less natural.. it's like more boomy and muddy than the real one, kinda like a better than average modeling amp... btw i did a blind test.. js

  • @penguindredg and feel free to meet me and bet ur life savings

  • @ThatJustHappened14 Okay

I bet you have tin ears like 99.9% of other guitarists. This guy is likely having you on and the whole thing was recorded with one or the other.

  • @penguindredg As someone with a dual rectifier...i sure shit couldnt tell the difference lol

  • @penguindredg

Trust me, you can tell the difference.

When you use the Axe Fx live, you sound flawless. It's unreal.

  • @penguindredg i just did a blind thest like, i read the comments and when i thought it was the recto i scrolled up to the vid and see if it was that or not and the same with the Axe i scrolled up-down again. i did 15/15 good choices so far. so the difference is audiable imo.

  • @ThatJustHappened14 LMAO no.

I actually prefer the Axe. And I agree with penguin, yes obviously it doesn't sound exactly the same. But if he hadn't been A/B comparing the two you'd have no idea the Axe FX wasn't a real tube amp. Unless you have ears like Ola.

  • @ChucklesMginty who's to say i don't have ears like ola?

  • @ThatJustHappened14 I'm thinking you own the recto and don't like the idea of something being able to reproduce it. Fact is differences are subtle if at all. Ola sold all his tube heads for it and all you have to do is watch his other videos to hear that he has the ears and tone. The Recto is a one or 2 trick pony. The Axe can reproduce just about any guitar sound which is incredible for recording if you like to create different styles .

  • Although in this video the Mesa seems tighter.

  • I can hear a difference between the two. And I have the worst speakers. Pretty good song though.

Are these original songs? Btw can you do a Randall RM100 comparison vid?

  • Nice video. I did a taste test comparing my Axe FX with my friend's H&K TriAmp. The TriAmp had more punch, although the Axe FX was no slouch either. But it may be due to my PA. I was playing through a single QSC K12 powered speaker. I have heard using the Atomic amps would make a difference. For me, even if the Axe FX isn't quite there tone and feel wise, the versatility still wins for me personally.

  • do you prefer the roadster or this dual rectifier head?

  • @antijesuscock The roadster is a dual rectifier with some extras...

  • Your videos rock ive been sub'd to you for a long time! I need some advice what would you rather have...a Mesa Boogie Roadster or an Axe FX? Im trying to make up my mind and need some help lol

    Thanks, your rock!

    jay

  • Really nice sound!

    is the cab a 23 or a 27?

  • @hmforever this was the 27" Same size as my roadster 2x12 cab ;D

  • dude youre awesome

    you rock!

  • Tubefags proven wrong, check.

  • I love my Axe Fx Ultra. Great Comparison. I think people really need to digest the fact that the Fractal can do anything that any boutique amp can. I am proud of this technology and. And glad I own it :)

    Cheers man!

  • @immortalsoloist not really, it's a great unit, but the dynamics a boutique amp has just aren't all there in the fractal unit.

  • @JVM410ftw I think I have an ear. Each Firmware has improved and the latest one gives all the dynamics. I mean seriously what's the whole argument about I have played with cabinets and real amps and the Fractal gives me the best tone I am happy. If you like to continue using tube amps and cabs go for it. This video and many more are proofs that the Fractal can do it all :)

    Take it or leave it.

    Have a nice day.

  • @immortalsoloist It has improved. hence why I bought one. lol I'm happy with it, especially when running it through a powered monitor. I wasn't trying to argue. just stating it's still got a way to go before being 100% similar in tone to a tube amp. I don't mind though. less maintenance, less worries, more versatility = a happier me.

  • @JVM410ftw I don't know man it just depends how you make it work.

I mean Tosin Abasi and Misha Mansoor and Marco Sfogli and all these they get all the tube tones out of it. It has replaced all their tube amp and cabinet rigs. Quiet honestly man from my personal experience doing some cool tone testing I get all the nice tube tone response and stuff and in all honesty man I can get even tighter sounds from the Axe Fx Ultra than the tube amps. It's not even funny :D.

  • @JVM410ftw it really comes down to how you program things in the axe and how you apply certain settings at times it's just about tweaking a few knobs and the tones are there. Axe Fx Ultra to me is a whole amp in itself because not only can you dial in all the tube tones but actually make them tighter. Like see this video there is no difference in tone with the Mesa and The Axe. The Periphery album is also amazing. Check Ty Tabor's album the Axe Fx replaced his entire Egnnator rig

  • @JVM410ftw and his effect pedals. Quiet honestly man like there are reasons why people who have been using amps and cabs for 25 years plus have switched to it. With my JBL monitors it sounds amazing and when you the axe with the Atomic Reactors or the power amp you can clearly hear all it's dynamics as well. It really comes down to how you use it. Mess around with it more and you'll get all the sounds you need. I have never been happier with my sound ever with any rig until I got the Axe :)

  • @JVM410ftw The tube sound is there with a few tweaks final record results and live usage has proved the Axe's abilities brother :) so yea just spend more time with it. I got all the sounds I ever wanted from any amp of my dreams in it with a bunch of tweaks and I am sure you will too. Keep rocking man :)

  • @immortalsoloist Thanks dude!

only had mine for about a week now and i'm still trying to tweak a few patches to my liking. I still need to buy the foot controller for it, so I can use it live.

  • @JVM410ftw Ahh no wonder dude.

That's why yea the presets are impressive. But see here is what you do dude first create a solid chain in the lay out then tweak with the eq mixers, then mess with the cab sims, and amp configurations try double rigs and try connect everything in a smooth manner. See the manual carefully. Trust me you'll see results and know why I was saying that the Axe can do a lot of the tube stuff :) You'll enjoy it. All it needs is a bit of time and the urge to learn. Good Luck

  • Oh my god, song is fucking epic.

  • I don't suppose there's a way you could reveal the settings you use for the Rectifier sound? I've looked for you posts on the Axe forum and looked over your blog a bit and couldn't find any. I'd love to know how you dialed that in since you probably have one of the best ears for it with all the amp testing you've done.

  • This video only confirms for me that the AxeFX is phenomenal. With a bit of tweaking on the AxeFX, the two could sound even closer.

My friend just got his AxeFX earlier today and we spent the whole night dialing in perfect tones. Some of the presets sound great and are good starting points. We re-recorded the intro to one of our songs and now it sounds SOO good.

The preamps and pedals in it are perfect, and I believe it would be best to use just for the preamps into a tube poweramp

  • I honestly can't tell the difference.

Granted, I've been playing only 3 and 1/2 years, and have never owned a tube amp.

  • how many tracks on the guitar?

  • @HomerJ666 one left, one right...

  • Sounds exactly the same to me

  • Mesa Wins

  • @bozzi90 Yeah...keep telling yourself that.

  • The Axe sounds a little more middle-y and a bit looser.

  • Almost no diference at all, that's incredible, really this Axe FX is something to dream about, Mesas are godlike, but man, that's some serious shit!

And great song and playing by the way, your rock this motherfukin' youtube up with your kick-ass videos man!

    Keep It Loud :D

  • sorry i didn't wanted to be incorrect but I tried AXE FX ultra myself and its very far from feeling of my Mesa Mark IV. Demos always lie - its only one thing what I understood after buying different stuff without trying it live. very nice technics.

How many tracks recorded by the way?

  • @westdiver03 you should check the GH Greenhouse effects Middle man video I did where I'm doing a Mark IV simulation.

This is one left and one right channel.

  • i don't believe this is true sound

  • @westdiver03 You're totally right! The drums are fake and made in Superior 2.0.

  • I just bought the EP and the self-titled album you guys rock!

  • fucking metalic tone can realy a mesa get this tone omg i have to get this i hope mesa could make a 5-10-15 w amp's of mesa bogie dual rec's

  • @gokuussj8 each rectifier needs 50w of power

  • I'm looking to buy one of these bad boys, anyone know of a source in the UK?

  • @pockthehairy G66 [dot] co [dot] uk

  • @pockthehairy g66 [dot] eu would be the European dealer for Fractal.

  • @th3m1ke Yeah I've looked into them but they're sold out, need to pre-order aarhhh guess it's just time to wait until they're back

  • Comment removed

  • I vote for the recto

  • Do you have any experience with the Line Pod X3 (the modeling version not the live board). I just need something to suffice for home recordings, nothing professional.

  • @summitthescale its very very good but the pod hd desktop is better.

  • @willjon100 Thanks for the response bro. I just found out the Pod HD desktop was out. Definitely getting that.

  • wow how did you make the recording sound so good?? any plugins? I mean reverns, eqs, comps?? or just the pure axe fx

  • holy shit thats like almost exactly the same

  • 3:01 oh god i love riffs like this! In addition to this hot as hell tone!

  • man you are incredible how long have you been playing ?
