I have been a Vegan for a little over a month part for my love of animals part cause i'm a big fatty your recipes are awesome and will help me to stay the fattest Vegan on earth.
Hmm...You know, salting the cucumbers works well, since the salt draws all the water out. Just don't salt the end product, if you're going to do it this way.
My mom is Lebanese and that's what she does when she makes tzaziki sauce
I had the amazing opportunity to live in Athens for a year and I recommend using plain Greek yogurt instead of soy(Thats my only vegan exception) and 2-5 cloves of crushed garlic (depending on how garlic-ey you want it) to the tatziki. For the gyro I recommend adding some falafel or raw tofu as a meat substitute.
Hint,,, the Tzaiki sauce you got it backwards, DRAIN your yogurt in the fridge in cheese cloth until it is thick like Greek Yogurt. TWO, shred your cucumber in a bowl and add all the cucumber juice! ALSO, if you are declaring this Greek, use Greek herbs or at least otherwise don't declare this a Gyro.
Well.. yeah... dont want to be hater or something but here is the thing:
Gyro=Round in Greek , *Gyros* defines a way of round baking meat (over fire NOT in oven) -imagine a GIANT soulvaki rollin over fire- u can make one from NOT only pork but from chicken/lamp too. Lots of foreigners confuse the above with the look a *pita* gaves when its wrapped around smth.Just saying this cause some things are made to be the way they should. You made a nice TzaTziki*Jageekee*-sauce sandwich but it aint gyros
hmm im a vegetarian i should try this. but i dont know if the supermarket i go has that yogurt =/. btw whats ur reason for being vegan?im sorry im new to ur channel =]
@thunderheart226 Hey there, I'm vegan for lots of different reasons, the main three are: it's a more environmentally sustainable diet, it's better for me (if I don't bake cupcakes too often...), and it's kinder to animals. Probably some of the same reasons you're a vegetarian!
@TheTofuGuru i have one thing against being vegan or vegeterian, mainly because your're not exactly saving animals because at the supermarket im guessing they just throw away their leftover meat which means the animal died for nothing )=
@versatilechicken The law of supply & demand is in effect for all purchases. Or do you think this law applies to every single purchase in the world except meat? If meat doesn't get purchased that is lost revenue. Brittney buys vegan, that increases that companies revenue. Those companies would cease to exist if likeminded people didn't buy their products. It is economics, it works for every $ purchase in the world. Thinking the choices she makes doesn't matter is small minded. Money talks.
Good job on the tzatziki, but the other ingredients are pretty wrong...
If you want to demonstrate a greek gyros... You must show the basic one which is vegetarian free... What strikes me the most though is the pepper and Beans...! We REALLY don't use these in our gyros!
Think of the name really... Gyros means something that turns and it's refering to the meat (if you see it, it is actually a huge lump of clean meat turning vertically near an open heat source thus cooking it evenly). The original (as original as it gets) has meat (usually pork but you can go with everything), tomato (no tomato!?), onion and MAYBE some fried potatoes... And of course, tzatziki...
