  • Enginners spend much of there day planning to kill someone in accounting who tries to nicke and dime their designs. The other part of our day is spent trying to design a decent coffee maker.

We also have the coolest desk toys and really hip pocket protectors.

  • @SKILLErElvurn If you have a penchant to understand machines, you'll find ME work fascinating. She's right that MEing is the broadest discipline; I've been involved with optics, control circuits, automation, life sciences & robotics for 34 years as an ME. When my son asked for advice about his education, I suggested adding EE to his curriculum, which he did, so he's now a Mechatronic Engineer working on a PhD in computer engineering. See my channel for an example of ME work.

  • 0:00-0:04....NO SHIT SHERLOCK

  • you can do everything............ except for the manual work -_-. I refuse to believe that mechanical engineers just "design" their equipment. To be worthy of the title, Engineers should be able to build their work.

  • This is my career choice im looking forward to this only question i have is do these people get any rest?

  • is ME about inventing? Because i don't wanna invent, i just wanna make things work, like a technician, but i would still like to learn ME.

  • @MrFTW733 There are several avenues for the ME, like process development, mfg engineering, quality, etc. If you become a Design Engineer, you're somewhat a professional inventor. We do get to make things work. I usually insist on building my own prototypes to learn about their idiosycracies first-hand. Be prepared to become very analytical as a critical thinker.

  • Those computers are circa 1999. The narrator is from the 1980s classic.

  • Except build it.That goes to the extremely talented machinist. They are the ones who fix the engineering screwups.

  • it's for losers

  • I want to be an aerospace engineer, but I must become a mechanical engineer first

  • this courses is what id like best: architecture and mechanical engineering but i dont know what to chose.... could someone help me.....

  • @volikoto If you are more creative go with architecture, it's about the design, and how it may ultimately look. The mechanical engineering is about the calculations and analyzing to make sure the device will function correctly and not fail in the future. Engineering is definitely more math intensive, which IMO is more fun :)

  • @xXSparky117Xx thank you so much for the advise.... are you an engineer?

  • @volikoto it's simple. what do you like more? arts or technology/science?

if you're more into the creative side, go for architecture. If you like working with machines, and designing them( such as cars and planes) and would like to have a chance to affect and innovate the world, then go for mechanical engineering.

  • @OWLCITY54 thanks for the advice... very helpful

  • Couldn't someone engineer a more recent video?

  • Can anyone give me any calculations?

  • I want to become an Automotive engineer and my counselor is telling me its a sub division of Mechanical Engineering. Is there any truth in this?

  • @chelseafan4life09 Yes that is true. You first become a Mechanical Engineer, then you can specialize in a field that interests you. I assume you want to become an vehicle engineer, you can become an automotive engineer, aerospace eng, and naval architecture. You can also specialize in thermal engineering and acoustical engineering.

  • @0cks

Yes vehicle engineer but I would love to take this major and apply it in racing whether it be rally racing, F1, motoGP, etc.

Sounds like this major is extremely broad.

  • So eighties!

  • I have a borderline B+/A- average

    in University Calculus 120A, 120B, and 120C.

    My physics skills are average.

Can I still do mechanical engineering?

  • @LordEmperorBuddha

No, although you may get a job in the Engineering field. It is most likely that you will only attain the level of Court Jester. For more information, look up "Timmy Dance" in the youtube search bar.

  • @LordEmperorBuddha try to spend extra time on maths and physics especially

  • @LordEmperorBuddha

its the boring part of physics kinematics and thermal energy!

  • @LordEmperorBuddha If you like tinkering with solidworks and any similar CAD software I don't see why not.

  • @LordEmperorBuddha You can do anything you want if you study hard enough,,, working your ass off will get you further in life then pampered skills and that a boys

  • duuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrr, and you won't have a job when u graduate either

  • physics is different from math it may seem likes its not but it requires a lot more skills..for example mathematically you are already given a predefined function to compute the integral of over a certain range but in physics you have to define the function and the range on your own...mechanical engineering requires that you have very good problem solving skills and not so much of number crunching just a word of advice from a mechanical engineer

  • math may be ok. physics is not.

  • We design moving parts? Are you kidding, you're leaving out a big part of the job. How does everything assemble together, fasteners and tools? Do you think we just give production a drawing and it get's made? Every nut, bolts, flat washers, lock washers, milled, stamped, injection molded part needs a drawing or specification and part number. Don't forget electrical connectors, cardboard, plastic bags, foam, serial labels. Not so sciency anymore is it?

  • i have a C in math and i have to work hard to keep that C. Is math very demanding in mechanical engineering and is a C enough?

  • @forsalololo95

it doesn't matter what engineering you go into...u gta b really good at math.

if ur still in school, then work at getting at least above 80 ..even if u do get into engineering with poor math-related problem solving skills, you'll find it very difficult to get through the whole program

    hope it helps :)

  • @saadkibakwas

I live in norway so we don't have the same math score system as you. We have 1-6 and i have 4 in math is that good enough. I go in 10th grade now so i gotta work hard in math and i will.

And thank you for the info ;)

  • @forsalololo95 You ought to purchase as many math books as you can and make sure you know math backwards and forwards.

Math is the language of engineering and physics.

Take another look at the material

-you'll understand it better the 2nd time around.

  • @forsalololo95

lol give up being and engineer

  • i am doing my mechanical engineering oh yea!

  • I am amazed at your lack of knowledge concerning the engineering profession in this country, but perhaps ignorance is bliss, I hope you fare well and never encounter the problems I have encountered. I hesitate to add that my problems are not an isolated incident, because it might burst this positive bubble you have surrounded yourself with and hope your career can avoid the train wreck the engineering profession is currently experiencing in America.

  • @huntwds if the engineering profession is such a train wreck, why don't you just design a better train? or maybe the fault lies with the rails. i'm no engineer so i wouldn't know. someday though. someday.

  • Search for "no plane theory". Wakey wakey eggs n bac'y

  • WOW, this video series totally skipped Electrical Engineering, is that not cool or something?

  • I have been an Mechanical Engineer for 34 years. I would advise all who are thinking of becoming an engineer to rethink your career path. There is no real future for engineers in this country unless your end goal is to become management and even then it appears the Feds can come in your company and demand that you be fired.Find something else like become a parasitic life form like lawyers. If you must become an engineer learn Japanese or German or Chinese.

  • @huntwds your'e the first i've heard bad things from. sorry for your luck man

  • @cannibuzz83 How old are you?You have not been aware of the problems of engineers in this country?

  • @huntwds i have to an extent. to my knowledge we do not have enough engineers in this country. most children are afraid of math and science, so that alone deters kids from following that kind of path. i'm have a feeling you just had a stroke of bad luck. what jobs have you had, or do you have since you lost your engineering job?

  • @cannibuzz83

Old comment, but I agree with everything you just said regarding the amount of Engineers. I was going into art for the past 4 years, but only just decided to switch to Engineering. I'm not terrible at Math or Science, I just hated doing it. But, I think it's my responsibility to get a career that can support a family, and better the country, rather than for myself.

  • Very helpful...what field of engineering is required to design or manufacture new metal baseball bats?

  • I enjoy Mechanical Engineering studying, preparing myself before going to west indies.

  • can a mechanial engineer design a car

    cause i wanna do that

  • You can do almost everything as a mechanical engineer, every machine can be designed by a Mech-E. :)

  • @rock3tcat More like anything that moves can be designed my a Mech-E

  • I think that's an Automotive Engineer.

  • @MrSos96 Sorry man, but a child born today has a greater chance of being a professional baseball player than designing cars.

  • @Silky777 not if he sticks his mind to it

  • @Silky777 That's true.

Most mechanical engineers don't reach that level.

But there are other avenues in the field.

  • @wheelinthesky300

I am turning 20 and i am working for toyota's TEMA division explain this??

dont take hope away from children lol

  • @Silky777 Ofcourse not. You design parts of the car not the car itself. I never heard of anyone designing the whole car themselves.

  • @MrSos96 A car is technically a machine so I think so.

  • I want to design and create new machines.

Creo que esta carrera es muy interesante, aunque si es pura física y matemáticas.

  • superb
