Uncomfortable, It took 3 months of treatment until my hair was full again. It started off very fine (like baby hair) and snow white but does get back to normal. Keep us posted and let others know

It was good to see Butterflykiss dealing with her Alopecia in a healthy manner - losing hair is NOT the end of the world.
However, I was surprised to see her shave her head - totally unnecessary. I deal with hundreds of Alopecia clients and for Butterfly, I would have recommended a partial hair system. It's much more comfortable and much better looking than a full wig.
If you have Alopecia - don't think you need to shave your head. Check around first and look into the alternatives.
Hmm Im male and have only small areas bald. I would probably shave my head since its not that big deal for a guy to be bald, but the problem is that the areas have like thinner skin so the skin sometimes breaks and forms small scabs ( so even if i shaved my head you would see the spots). Have you seen this before?
I agree, people with alopecia should look at all of their choices and make a careful decision about what to do about it, but for some people, shaving your head is the best option. I've had the disease for 17 years, I wore a wig for half a year, and I got hormone treatments for 5 years. Now I've decided that shaving my head is the way to go. It's a personal choice, and what may seem like the wrong choice to one person may be right for another.

This is fairly normal. Alopecia can come and go as long as the root hasn't "closed". It's difficult to determine the cause but it's often stress related.
I congratulate you. You have displayed a very positive attitude towards your condition. Although I am bald by choice I have been through my own live changing experience, and I can certainly empathize.
I do find the negative comments youve received to be rather irritating. Some people are just so juvenile.

I really cannot believe the stupidity of some people. It really shows how educated they are. I was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata when I was 11 years old. I am 19 now. I have never lost all of my hair, but have had some rather large spots that couldnt be covered up. I was spot free for more than a year and recently noticed a large bald patch and a smaller bald spot around May of this year. In school I was constantly getting called "Baldy", even up until I graduated in 2007.

Try to use Aloe Vera concentrated gel, I saw on internet that's good for alopecia areata. Sure you must keep you actual treatment, just adding the ALoe Vera.

Wow your quality. I had alopecia and with the same positive attitude you have helped me get through my nightmare. But within a year or so my hair came back thick and fast. Use the Gillette Mach 3 shaver for your head. This should give you a close shave without cutting your skin.

I have alopecia for 30y. (I loose 20%) of my hair arox. twice on year. Personally I observ and belive that some stress, frustration starting and generate that reaction. But skin and hair on this place is sensivite for it, and "waiting" for new ...stress.
Your video is great, you are beatiful lady with deep personality, you have great dougter and familly. I belive that everything will be ok. Future belongs for You!

I love how you discuss Alopecia. My niece is just starting to lose her hair. She's 20 years old. Yet to be confirmed with Alopecia. But that is what is suspected. Her beautiful thick hair is now thin and she has 3 rather big bald spots in the back of her head . I'm going to send her a link to your video. I hope she can 1 day have your positive out look. To me you are an insperation. I hope she can find insperation in your video. PS: Your beautiful!

I really just want to thank you :) Got Alopecia RIGHT when school ended (funny how that works :P) and usually I've been telling myself: "Oh yeah, it could be a lot worse..." But hearing someone else talk about it really made a difference. :D Made me giggle once or twice, too. But yeah, thanks.

I was having a pretty bad day so when I came home from work I went on youtube and randomly came across your video. You are very funny woman and I admired how you discussed your condition so light heartedly. Your video was very inspirational and helped me grasp the fact that there is more to life than appearance and dwelling on things that can consumer your mind and just make you worry. My hair is thinning & I am a 30 yr old male. I am afraid to lose my hair and become bald. right now i am taking finasteride to control the hormone (DHT) in my body. also, i am using a shampoo that has selenium sulfide(heald & shoulders), and another shampoo which is T-Gel (2% tar) i use them alternately. also, i tam taking oil of oregano orally adding them to my drink..i add 2 drops of oregano oil becuz it is anti-fungal,anti-bacterial, anti yeast.i also put essential oils on my scalp&massage it

in response to JimmyFloyd2, i'm pretty sure everyone with this disease is as grateful as anyone else to not have cancer.
Just because it's not cancer you're not allowed to complain? I'm sure you complain about headaches or whatever. Show some respect, this disease isn't life threatening but it causes a lot of psychological damage.

Try to use Aloe Vera concentrated gel, I saw on internet that's good for alopecia areata. Sure you must keep you actual treatment, just adding the ALoe Vera.

Wow your quality. I had alopecia and with the same positive attitude you have helped me get through my nightmare. But within a year or so my hair came back thick and fast. I believe its because i accepted it and moved on. I didnt dwell on it all the time. Your a very positive person and genuine person. I hope your hair comes back. Thanks for sharing your story :-)

Thats great news, im so happy for you. I went to the barbers yesterday to have a number 1 all over. It felt great because I chose to have it short not because i had too lol Alopecia was a really good thing for me, i learned alot about life and people etc. I bet it did the same for you :-) Take care Therese
