Raj Kapoor, as an artist, was total flop. He did not create anything original. His acting was a poor copy of Charlie Chaplin, the worst part of his films was his phony and jerky acting. He cashed on showing sensuality on the screen. Only good part of his films was good music from Shankar and Jaikishan. He was an alcoholic who did nothing to help anyone. In his life he was opposite of the characters he played on the screen.

I don't know if your comment is to show tolerance of opinions. I hold my opinion on Raj Kapoor. His films had heavy message of communism and anti-capitalism. Most of the foriegn awards he got were from Soviet Union and the communist block countries, who were encouraging the Indian artists to propagate the communist ideology.

It is just because you have the benefit of hindsight to know how it all turned out. He is my personal favorite director for his productions conveyed in-depth messages, though not so evident on the naked eye, which then brought out the beauty and the extra essence.
