As he dies, you'll get the XP from killing him, and immediately you'll want to start walking towards the elevator doors. Since he's dead, the lock on the elevator will be lifted and you'll just have to walk to the doors and get in ! As soon as you do, you'll be put back to the Fountain, and have completed "Heist of the Centuries" ! Enjoy your 37-Gold Bars, and a way of beating Elijah that doesn't need the Stealth Boys to appear (none did in my X-box playthrough last night). Hope this helps!

@AlekTrev006 you might not need to kill him noe that i think of it, eliminating the point of the explosives, if you can get past him in the force field and get to the elivator, you get the optional quest objective of trapping him in the vault, also completing the quest with all the bars, of cource i havn't tested my theory and don't intent to ;) just a thought.

See, the game has to lower the shield - even for a second - to let him come through, but since you were constantly pushing forward, you start to go through as he comes through his side. You'll likely be thrown forwards (I was when I did it last night) - as though you got knocked down by an enemy attack...but you'll quickly climb back to your feet. Before you get up though, Elijah will likely have been blown apart by your bombs at the bottom of the stair he just walked through !!!

As you near the top of the steps, you'll have begun to see Elijah coming into view to your left (he's walking down the hallway leading to the blue force-field in front of you. As you come close to the field...KNEEL DOWN AND KEEP PUSHING FORWARDS - leaning against the shield !!! Elijah will see you, and talk a bit, while pushing something on his Pip-Boy to disable the field so he can come through to fight you. Here's the catch though, in the split second the field goes down..you go through !!

Last step...walk as fast as possible towards the steps to your right (upon exiting Vault door) where Elijah will come down. You'll pass over your Frag Mine, Demo Charge, Gas Bomb, C-4 trap for him, and start walking up those small stairs. Press start and change your game settings to Very Easy. Why ? We want to ensure Elijah is blown up by the explosives, and Very Easy cuts his 340-HP down to just 170, guaranteeing his death from our bombs. This next part is critical, so I'll say it last..

Finally, make another safety save (on a different save-slot) before you go to the computer and make contact with Elijah. Get him to come down (many ways, like Puddy mentions)...and as soon as he finishes talking, turn around and rush towards the Vault door, grabbing the block of 37 Gold Bars as you do. Open the door. You will be over-encumbered, but don't worry about crouching...you blew away all Turrets before entering the Vault, so nothing will be shooting at you.

Then lay your all your explosives in the square of grating that is at the bottom of the small steps that Elijah must come down to actually get to the main outer vault platform. It's about 10-feet in the game terms - from the blue force-field he comes through. After you've laid them (concentrate them all around each other so he'll get hit by the full blast when he comes through)...make a safety save and enter the Vault. Loot everything like Puddy says, and drop the bars on floor like he did.

Another, perhaps easier way (Not relying on the Stealh Boy appearing) is just to blow Elijah to bits with explosives. How ? Bring 2-3 Gas Bombs down with you, as well as 1-2 Frag Mines. You also want at least 1-piece of C-4, and you can get up to 3 out in the Villa, I believe. BEFORE you go into the Vault, after opening it with the computer near the door....shoot up the Turrest using your Holorifle or other guns. Destroy all 5 of them.
