You got my vote for unsung! I remember the female vocals from when I was about 6 yrs old. I never knew this was new birth. They became one of my fav groups of the seventies when I was a teenager. Hey everybody check out their cut called "walk along the euphrates". A song about africa and the begining of mankind. They really kicked the funk! Best wishes to any group members still living.
Whats funny is that this group is from my city of Louisville. This city makes some really good music, it just can't get the mainstream push it needs to really be on the map. The clubs here go crazy to local music.
What is really genius is the fact that this song is a remake of an old Perry Como song and the band & the late, great Harvey Fuqua made this song popular all over again in the 70s. I had no idea growing up this was a remake. That there is the real genius!
This is beautiful. So glad I got to see these folks perform in the late 90s'. I missed this stuff during their hay-day cause I wasn't born until 73. But I had sisters who went to shows and I always envied them for it. Wish I was born b4 73.
its somewhat ironic...the Perry Como version (which is the original version) peaked at Number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January of 1971, and this version peaked at Number 52 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November of 1971, and they were both recorded on the same label, RCA Victor-
@christheone8773 Good point, and this interpretation of the song is absolutely genius. To take a standard and stylize it like this is amazing. They really made this song their own.
Does anyone remember a female singing a solo version of this song around the same time in 1971. She jammed on it singing extremely high notes and I remember a dramatic ending. It was more soulful then this version but had simarlites in the background music. I would really like to hear it today.
my bad that song was by the main ingredient. sorry.
