This guy is a socialist, no doubt, the nationalization of healthcare is just one of many steps hes proposing to take. He has also nationalized GM and any other company that owns a single cent of government money, and intends to go beyond it. Face it, National Healthcare will ruin us. I'll give an example, you make 100 a week, due to Obamacare taxes you now only get 40 dollars. You never get sick and you never break anything, your losing money and receiving nothing in return.
@davedavedaveannoy1 Yeah... just like the nationalization of fire and police departments. I think we should pay the cops every time they serve us a speeding ticket...and we should pay firefighters and sign off on it before they can save our homes. And we should continue to pay for uninsured Americans who have emergency room visits (we pay for that you know). And we shouldn't worry about other people getting sick as long as we're ok the world will be a great place lol. I love American morals.
@raventakayama Not that, there is always hidden meaning in someones comment, and since there is no sound I cant detect any evidence in your voice, and I cant see your facial expression. I have no clue what you are thinking and what your body language is indicating so yes, I can't tell. Would you care to enlighten me?
@dave Fair enough. I was being mildly sarcastic. I just think its funny how fire and police are paid for with our tax dollars, but medical can't be. Add the fact that we pay for uninsured people's emergency services and you'll find out that we're already coming out of pocket for the care of others. Fact is free healthcare saves lives. Do you know how many people have died from being denied coverage? Don't you know that there's a disparity in insurance coverage depending on age, sex, and race?
@dave A child was diagnosed with leukemia. The only true treatment option was experimental, and there was really no way his family could afford it plus insurance hardly ever covers experimental treatments. He was lucky enough to be enrolled into a case study and the treatment was paid for. He survived and is now cancer free. He's my professor and an advanced medical tech researcher. He has been a part of many treatment discoveries. That would have never happened if he had died at age 14.
@davedavedaveannoy1 I have a masters in public health and I know that one of the parameters for calculating percentage of disease related death is to account for insured vs uninsured patients. Its ridiculous for that to even be a consideration in such a calculation. People in mid to late stage Myeloma have a high chance of being denied coverage because of the aggressiveness of the cancer. With the treatment for myeloma being hundreds of thousands of dollars what should that family do?
@raventakayama They do what they can, If they are unable to afford medical coverage for her then thats as it remains. Then again if people could avoid living chemically there would be many problems that would cease to exist. They need to get out, eat healthy foods, and stop relying on a wide variety of drugs to help them live their lives.
@davedavedaveannoy1 Well my friend Myeloma is Genetic. Meaning that it has nothing to do with lifestyle, diet, or exercise. Most of the top disease killers in the U.S. are genetic outside of heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes. Which means regardless of lifestyle we are all at risk. Fact is we never know what other people may mean to us. You are being very short sighted right now so I'll give you a story to think about... Continue.
@davedavedaveannoy1 continue... Therefore dictating who pays the doctor (whether you pay them out of pocket or the government pays them) doesn't change their opportunity for creative thinking and experimentation. The only downside to universal health care is setting a tax for it. But we've set a tax for libraries, teachers, police officers, politicians, and fire fighter's salaries, why can't a tax be set to provide dr's salaries, especially since they provide a universal and necessary service.
@raventakayama Alright, we are at a standstill, I obviously cannot convince you that you are wrong and vis versa for me, so this pursuit has just been a massive waste of time. We both have significant evidence supporting our opinion and cause, so....I am going to consider changing your opinion a lost cause. And though I believe your wrong and you believe the same for me I still respect your opinion. You believe in government management, I believe in private, but only time will tell the victory.
@davedavedaveannoy1 lol yeah opinions are rarely changed...but that's human nature. And don't get me wrong. I don't believe in government. I just believe the government should PROTECT its people from harm even microscopic harm that's sometimes the direct result of the U.S. infrastructure, such as power lines, water filtration systems and so on. Trust me I studied prostate cancer at the genetic level for the worst half of grad school. But yeah man good talk...I guess lol.
@davedavedaveannoy1 Hey, its not a waste of time to have these arguments because poeple like me read them. I want to respond because I have simple facts that I think show private systems to be the wrong way to go
USA vs UK
USA spends 16% of GDP on health (8% from governmment, 8% from individuals)
UK spends 8% GDP on health (8% government, 0% from individuals)
USA spends more on administration then UK.
Democratically controlled healthcare is better, and cheaper. I can explain why if you like?
@davedavedaveannoy1 US insures 80% of population, UK 100%. We also live three years longer, and that is taking into account lifestyle because the UK is the fattest most alcoholic nation in the EU.
I wont go into the moral angle of having people who lack protection, but mainly want to stick to economically because public systems win hands down on this issue. If you disagree, please point me to a private system which does better then a public one. You wont find one.
@markgg1 Tisk Tisk, you people have so much potential but you remain clouded by thoughts of morality and of utopia. The UK is in debt and only kept afloat by their European neighbors. In fact, their healthcare system is so bad that they are considering dropping it. Universal healthcare is nice if you want to help the fellow man, but to support 300 million individuals for free is not profitable nor is it economically wise, its just conformity poured into a government trough.
@davedavedaveannoy1 But how is it free when we pay via tax? The NHS is not a charity, but we all pay what we can afford, i.e. a percentage of our earnings in the form of taxes. The admi is cheaper then the US (so more efficient) delivers a better product, as we are healthier, and the best part is when you get sick you just turn up at the hospital and get sorted. It focuses on preventing serious disease before they happen, as this approach is cheaper.
@davedavedaveannoy1 Im not an ideological person, I am just pragmatic. What works should be used. I have already proven that public systems are cheaper & better. This is plain fact. If all you can do is respond that I live in a 'utopian world view' then you have no argument.
On for example, clothes shops, they should be private as a public system would be rubbish. I am no communist. In Europe we know a mixed economy is best for everyone. Private and public both have roles in providing services
@davedavedaveannoy1 South Africa spend 8% of GDP on health (like the UK) but in real terms this is 1/4 our expenditure, as their GDP per head is 1/4 ours. They have a AIDs crisis, and actually have a massive private sector in health for the middle and upper classes. I dont think you can make that comparison.
Imagine a system where a proportion of your tax (less then you pay for insurance) left your pay check. In return you knew if you or family got sick, they just walked into a clinic for free?
@davedavedaveannoy1 Cont' now apply that to now. You never know who is saved by the actions of others and you never know what that saved life may go on to do. Many doctors who work in the field of cancer were touched by the disease prior to becoming physicians. Some of them actually had the disease. The future quality of our health care depends upon the lives we save now. If helping to pay for health care is to much for you then you obviously haven't tried to think about the bigger picture.
@raventakayama Nationalized healthcare is thinking in the short run. When you remove a doctors ability to make as much as they want and restrict them to government plans it obliterates creativity and expansion into new opportunities. When a doctor realizes he or she can only make so much they provide shotty workmanship and don't labor to their full potential. Same problem with peasants under the Soviet system, they knew they could only make so much, thus Communistic agriculture suffered greatly.
@davedave Actually no, in England doctors get pay raises on a case by case basis. Over here docs get paid by the number times they see a patient over there they get paid more if the same patient doesn't have repeat visits. Its the same as reaching a quota. Plus considering the fact that MOST of the RECENT medical breakthroughs or new ideas have come from other countries, such as Cuba, which has free healthcare, there's no short comings on creativity. Plus state side you get grants for that.
@davedavedaveannoy1 A doctor who works better, and has better ideas in a nationalised system will get promoted quicker, and will therefore earn more money and have prestige. Your argument applies for both private and public.
What I find from your side is this: you guys make very plausible ideological arguments against public health, but do not have evidence to support it. The US has the most expensive health system, and worse outcome. This is enough evidence to show how poor the system is.
@raventakayama Finally some reason in this debate. America is spending 16% of their money on health! 1/6 of all of your money goes on a service the rest of can pay for with 1/10th of the money, and get a FREE better service.
People are so blinded by ideology that they shoot themselves in the foot. People's lives are literally being lost for this sort of thinking. I cant bear to imagine what it would be like to get Cancer and know you are uninsured. Its not just bad for individual & society
@markgg1 Yeah man don't bother with dave. I hit him with a condescending message because I figured he didn't have a legitimate reason for disliking healthcare reform, he's just repeating what he's told. There's no critical thought process in people like that so there's no need in debating. You'll never get him to think about it.
I live in a congested city and a very liberal state in NJ, and in actuality imagine 500 illegal immigrants in parking lot at 7am in the morning looking for a construct job, and all I can think if one of these guys get hurt I'm going to pay for that ISH, explain to me how me funding a public option plan would help me? - Obama has a great charisma and he can make you believe alot but the question is - Show me something? He mentions smokes and mirrors in his convo yet he hasnt defined his plan
I suggest, you quit your job and HUNT down illegal immigrants. Then you wouldnt have any excuse for not suporting health reform. Oh, and while you hunting down illegal immigrants, you can appoint George Bush back into the White HOUSE so he can doooo More damage to The U.S economy; by going it alone in the war, and borrowing money from the chinese..... You dont have to be worried about the illegal immigrants, The Chinese are moving in, and you cant F****k wt them!!!!! ...:O)
Chrisfo19: Your from New Mexico? ...I can see why your liberal you probably have Mexicans running into your state every second of everyday...explain to me for those who pay for Health Insurance, why some dumb mexican can jump into a hospital for a "boo boo" on his hand from a construct job which he probably took from an American Worker and receive the service for free, yet when i go there for the same "boo boo" I'm paying minimum $300 dollars in my state in NJ - dont tell me it doesnt happened
Japan: spends 8% GDP, family premiums are $280 per month half payed by the employer, if you loose your don't loose coverage you get sent to the community plan, 80% of hospitals are private, no gate keepers you are free to choose your doctors, HI companies are barred from profiting on basic HI, LE: 83, IMR: 2 per 1000.
USA: spends 16%, 47 million underinsured, 50% underinsured, lax regulation in HC industry, corruption, greed, and discrimination by HI companies, LE: 76, IMR: 9 per 1000.
Also for you hicks, Obama is trying or that is what he is implying. Is trying to Make America into a hybrid system. For most of you its is based on the bismarck model in which you can have both private and govt. programs co-exist. So for most of you that it is impossible well nations like Japan, Germany, Brazil, France, NZ, and Korea have made it possible and it does work and its a UHC success story.
On the next slide I am going to compare Japan to the US system.
About time Wake up people these town halls, tea parties are all just stunts pulled by the Health insurances companies and their friends from the FAUX NEWS circus. I mean look a recent poll shows that only 20% of the population is republican. Why you ask well is becuase of all the rednecks in the GOP heck they are driving them out.
Its sad that we can't trust ANYONE in government anymore. Government has come down to greedy ol' men/women grouping together to give themselves and/or their group more:
A) Wealth (in more ways than money)
B) Power
Every policy/bill/act.. etc etc has so many stupid clauses to benefit themselves of point A or B that; a simple argument of "make health care affordable to all" becomes a endless debate between morons.
Makes you question any "facts" ANYONE comes up with.
Lying sack of shit fucktard odumbo makes me want to puke. It's not race. Not all black people are niggers, and not all niggers are narcissistic turds with no green card occupying the White House.
All I know is that our premiums have more than doubled since we got our policy in '02. What the heck, I suppose that's OK, especially since the CEO's of the insurance companies need to make millions a year. I get that. Those guys need it more than we do.
I told my friend that he needed to get over his inability to get insurance because of a "pre-existing condition". He's just a whiner anyway.
I also think it's great that a fraction each premium dollar we spend goes to actual health care.
he thinks the American People dont see this Ish - The sad part is so many people are ignorant because of his charismatic figure that they dont see that this man does not have a real agenda, but just alot of talk -
Hospitals and doctors have definitely took advantage of the system, I can go on for days about this topic but the reality is if you open P:ublic Healthcare and make it available it will cost tax payers a whole bunch of money to run the program and shoot unemployment sky high- And that BS about Barack saying it wont effect currenty healthcare policies.. Are You F'n kidding me? The president is terrible on this topic I mean i know he is a great speaker and is the 21st Century Black JFK but serious
We should find a way to give a tax credit to businesses who buy fantastic health plans for there employee, by keeping it privatized it will allow people to choose where they would like to seek medical coverage - We attack the private insurance company, yet they bring business to the doctors and buy controlling the contracted rates, it allows members covered under insurance to pay low dedictubles verses viewing a doctor and him charging you`what he thinks he deserves
fees - The problem is you have a public option plan what you will do in essence is eliminate private insurance therefore eliminating over 100,000 jobs and increase unemployment will shoot up - Also, who will fund this public option plan it will probably be the middle-class worker like myself who is already getting raped by other taxes imposed by the gov't - Also, what about these companies looking to buy better health plans for there employee, Health insurer cant control what your employer buy
Towakeup: I'm sorry but I have to state some points-First, where so busy attacking the private insurance companies, but what about doctors not looking to contract with insurance carriers, rather charge an insured members astronomical billable charges, that are set by the doctor and his finance team - Specialists are notorious for doing that, or how about a doctor who contracts with a carrier, but then decides not to contract there Endo and Ambulatory centers so they can charge out of network ...
The only "smoke and mirrors" is comming from this mans campain. You think Obama would know by now thats its time to lead and stop campaining. And I love how he keeps talking about how evil the insurance companies are. He hates the free market. What are you going to socialize next Obama. Whats funny about this vidio is that Obama keeps talking about the health lobbyists. There are probably more lobyists that are supporting his health care.
The bottom line is that unless we have a strong public option in the final bill all of this will be for nothing. We need to keep the pressure on so please take a moment to sign the petitions in the comment section of my profile. There are several other resources in cluding phone numbers there as well that will help you become more active. Thanks.
I think the president would look so sexy with a big, loose-curled afro. Kinda like sideshow Bob. Totally sexy. I would totally suck the president's dick and swallow his cum if he had a big, sexy afro. But, he has a short hair cut and looks Baptist or something.
Lets look @ how gov has failed: the war on drugs, iraq, Afghanistan, medicare (broke), SS (broke), Amtrak (broke), post office (broke), no child left behind, cash for clunkers (3x more $ than planned), TARP (no one knows where the money is going), Vietnam draft, and we could go on and on. There must be a better solution to the health care issue than more gov. Why do so many ppl trust the gov??
Ron Paul has some great ideas that neither side seems willing to discuss, check him out!
maybe if Ron Paul followers were not concentrating on trashing the opposition so much and were a bit more realistic while realizing that there are people that feel different than them, more would be willing to him "check him out." That Ron Paul does not care about private industry BS....in fact he encourages it.
Well he encourages competition and free markets. Something that if we had it in healthcare prices would be more competitive. I'm not sure what you mean by Ron Paul followers "trashing" the opposition. We have a different philosophy than democrats & 95% of republicans but I think the debates tend to be logic based and above all respectful. It is the far left and far right that continuously "trash the opposition," in my opinion of course.
It's time we trust bust the greedy health insurance and break up the oligopoly. That's odd Republicans support the socialist program medicare. Maybe if they would stop being in bed wit the corporations they could help Congress prevent medicare from going broke.
Government has become a gang of suicidal and ignorant runaway crazies. Regardless of your politics the USA cannot afford all of this reckless and unwarranted spending when we are so far in debt that liquidating the country would not pay it off. Congress now views a billion dollars as normal people would view a penny. It is just 200 or 800 or a trillion, our country is drowning and all the Democrats can do is to spend another trillion for this and that. Madness, insanity run amok.
I would rather become a SOCILIST than give another penny to the insurance companies. Capitalism is just a RIP-OFF for only the very few who will never let you or I in the club, so I say FUCK them and go to a single payer system and the insurance companies can go get a job at the soup kitchens, at least they will be covered under a single payer system. But Fox news has so many old women watching and they will never understand Fox has them working against their own interest.
And before anyone says get out if you dont like it I say I would move to the south of France or New Zeeland today if I could sell my house and company. This country is brain washed and Americans are getting the screw job BIG TIME! We will get what we deserve.
You should seriously consider moving to any other country of your choice, or any one that would take you. Americans fought for this great country, they sacrificed their lives for the freedom of this country, and you would "rather" it become a socialist country??????????? ARE YOU INSANE???? MOVE NOW TRAITOR!!!!!!
Well the America you want is a country run by fear and Rich fatcats so why don't you and your crazy Redencks move back to the South and form your own country under that king of all crazies Rick perry.
The America that I want is the one that built this great country!!! CAPITALISM!! FREE MARKETS. The only fear-mongering I see going on is by the democrats, and they do this by lying to Americans. BHO is the biggest smoke and mirrors man ever, and that includes the tricks performed with numbers. The Dems are fighting among themselves now.
The insurance companies are playing the exact same game obamma is playing,... the old fear tactic! Sort of evens out the playing field. Free market vs. Government run market. Wise man said when the people are left alone, Capitalism happens automaticly.
To P1marcus0d: Please explain what you mean rather than using the elipses (...) to indicate or imply something. Seems like you have good things to say, but I can't get your point with you trailing off (...) all the time.
Look at how ineffective the war on drugs has been. Good intentions do not always yield good results. Just as gov trying to mandate prohibition on behavior their interference to date has made the healthcare market non-competitive medicare ect. Look at how the price of college has gone up since the gov got involved. Gov. interference always leads to higher prices and more inefficiencies. We could help more ppl if we had a market that was truly free.
The health insurance companies should all be prosecuted under RICO for running a glorified protection racket, for extorting money from all Americans and then denying payment when we get sick. They should then be charged with crimes against humanity for killing the thousands upon thousands of people to whom they've denied coverage.
Making profits by denying healthcare is immoral. If that's the free market in action, then fuck the free market. I wish that Obama would embrace Medicare For All/single payer.
That said, this commentary of his is welcome. I hope that he's stopped playing nice with the heath insurance industry and will now insist on a vigorous public option.
Pass a bill that forces all Americans to buy substandard insurance from the same corrupt corporations that have been gouging us for years, and call it "extending health coverage to millions of people". If the Democrats think they are going to be able to somehow distance themselves for the disaster this "reform" will be, they are fooling themselves. Luckily for them when they are voted out of office they will have 7 figure jobs as lobbyists waiting.
Insurance Cos have the Med profession and us by the throat. We wouldn't NEED health care reform if the ins cos did not weave their threads through every aspect of our health care system. Now they are telling you that they will raise premiums even more if we try to do anything about it through Obama.
Ins Cos must be throttled back and we should not allow them to profit from our illnesses and deaths. They are like commandants of extermination camps choosing who lives and who dies.
We are a nation of such ignorance. It's hard to move anything forward for the middle class and away from the communist corporate grip in this country.
Keep watching fox, listen to limpballs...and hopefully we'll get it done in my lifetime. We are so behind the rest of the industrialized world with healthcare and so many other areas of government.
Morons are alive and crazy in this land. Such gullible, dumb ass holes. We are all judged by this ignorant cancer in our midst.
Well, actually 65% of the money spent in health care already comes from the gov. We practically have socialized medicine already this bill will just increase that %. In the early 60s we began this managed care, medicare, medicaid and various other social programs. This is precisely the time medical costs began to rise. What we need is less gov. interference not more.
Check out Ron Paul's C-span interview for his book "end the fed" where he discusses this very topic.
I LOVE MAKING long commmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmments just like you guys dooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
True its time to expose these bastards for who they are. Nothing but a bunch of blood sucking demons of hell. For those who hate Obama, well you know he is trying to do his job but its you the Right Wing Rednecks of American that are going to extreme lengths to stop him it show how desperate. Take a huke down MT. desperation:
Sarah Palin, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, and Ronald Reagan.
Start asking your fellow American's about their personal experiences at the very least. Then maybe you have the right to form your own opinion. Don't let these corrupt politicians and their extensions (news) do it for you.
Have any of you ever been to the E.R. in your lifetime? Who's not already waiting 5+ hours? Unless your actively dying you wont get seen right away, I worked in a hospital for 4 years. A lot of people after being in a emergency spend years battling it out with the "premium" insurance companies or just spend a whole lot of their lives paying them back. Not saying this is the case for everyone, but a good percentage of the working class population.
You're so full of crap it's coming out your ears. I went to the ER four days ago at Carolina's Medical Center with a massive infection in a cracked Tooth, and they saw me in 25 minutes. And in just under an hour I had a shot of novocain - two script's and I was out the door.
Funny how some of you talk like you're so intelligent and intellectual. You don't know anything about healthcare. Just wait till your parents or somebody you love get sick and lay dying on the couch because they can't afford healthcare due to corporate insurance dictators. You think you're going to be healthy for the rest of your life? I'm sure some of you will die a sickening death without help from the doctor and you will cry back why people want universal healthcare and why insur denied you.
You have a choice, either pay the higher prices for high quality healthcare or choose "Obamacare socialized medicine" where you will get cheap/downgraded healthcare but have to wait 5+ hours to see a doctor.
this is getting really old....no matter who is in office, ppl always have something to bitch about....let the man do what he has to do first, then "IF" it fails, bitch about it then...smh
I see the Obama haters are out in droves with nothing intelligent to say on the issue here. No counter solutions, not giving a damn or taking into consideration that health care costs are ridiculous, and the usual scapegoating thrown to the government not the private sector BS that these people turn their blind eyes too.
He's 100x smarter, intelligent and intellectual than you. He knows more about the system of the united states more than you. You're a moron. Don't speak and act like you're so smart. You're probably one of them jackasses that voted for Bush twice.
Fascist government? You have one of the least fascist government in the world m'friend... Obama is not breaking promises, he's holding them. He insured you that accomplishing goals was going to take time, and of course, they do!
the us one of the least facist governments? :D :D
better have a look behind the curtains and then answer again. yeah I guess invading other countries for profit reasons, faking terrorist attacks so people give away their freedom...
yeah... not facist at all...
It maybe sounds stupid in your mainstream media brain, but what should one do.
Yes, rather critically accept the INFORMATION that's given by the media (not the biased) than accept the non-backed up statements from dubius conspiracy theorists... ;)
Don't try to stay out of the mainstream so much that you only hear what's opposing it.
what are you talking about "not backed up"? of course they are. better have a look behind the curtains, then you will realize, that democracy does not exist.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
dackjaniels555 your statement is BS. I have over 30 relatives whom live in England and they HATE their healthcare. They also feel their taxes are outrageous. Nice try!
If the insurance copanies do not make a profit, guess what? You have no insurance. Secondly, the left is claiming the government is the solution to the problem. Well, if you think the insurance companies are bad wait until government bureaucracy fully takes over. The only real solution is to get the third party payor out of the equation. In other words: free markets and capitalism is the answer.
The post office does not make a profit but you still have mail service. UPS and FedEx still operate in competition of the post office. A government run non for profit insurance agency will have the same effect the post office has on the market. Providing a essential service and forcing insurance agency's to compete like UPS does. If you know anything about processes you now that prevention is more cost effective than fixing defects. We pay 2x more than other country's, the market is broken.
But look @ the difference in efficiency. Look at the DMV. Or using your FedEx example it is clean, fast and efficient the post office is none of these things. And not only does the post office not make a profit they are broke. If the post office did not exist there would still be private competition the gov. is not needed to keep an industry competitive or we would have a "gov. option" in every industry out there.
Why do people always get stuck on the post office? Im talking about skewing the market in the direction of public interest. The reason FedEx is so great is because they have insane competition. Why is it that there are 6 insurance agency in my small town but 14000 people a week are losing there insurance to rate hikes? Why is it that people in the reset of the industrialized world pay half what we pay per person in health care cost? The insurance lobby has distorted the market.
The reason we need a gov option on health care is because it is more profitable for you to pay insurance then when you get sick they drop you and let you die. That is not the case for a industry like retail where if you die then they can not sell to you. It is simply economics.
But we have many gov. requirements that dont let you buy insurance across state lines, it is not currently a competitive market due to gov. interference. More gov. is not the answer.
Prior to the 60s ppl had health insurance only for catastrophic cases and paid out of pocket for routine services and the prices stayed low. For those who couldn't afford it services were rendered for free by Dr.s or churches or charity would step in. Watch Dr. Ron Pauls ideas on this topic, he has some good ones.
You're smoke & Mirrors Mr. Obama. You're the one who is the Liar. And you continue to lie and delude your followers. It's not going to work on everybody. You keep doing what you're doing. Shalom!
Look who is talking about deceptive and misleading!!! Who knows more about smoke and mirrors than this President?!!! Americans are sorry they voted for this man! The Independents are now leaving BHO in droves!!! Good Job Mr. President!!
Talking about dishonest...YES the insurance companies are dishonest...Obama is also dishonest. Politicians in general are dishonest. People it's all about POWER and MONEY! Bend over and enjoy the ride!
Government is taking us over! We're becoming a totalitarian nation. We're losing our freedom.
What's really happening is change. That's what these people can't handle. They can't adapt so they say the change is bad. They say it is unamerican. They say it robs us of our freedom. They want simplicity. They don't want to have to think. Thinking is not their strong suit. They want to live in the past. They want modern life with yesterday's responsibilities. Basically they just lie to themselves.
american is not ready for real health care, let them continue to die for profit. obama need to shut up and continue to let the people suffer. that's where the real USA power come from.
THEN MAYBE THE PRIVATE SECTION SHOULD GO CLEAN UP ITS ACT AND STOP GOING NUTS ON HEALTH CARE COSTS!!!! Then the government would not need to get involved.
If the government was just going to prevent corruption in private health insurers then Im all for it, but why does the bill contain so much other BS like...
(1) taxes on certain individuals who did not obtain acceptable coverage,
(2) penalties for employers whose coverage failed to meet the requirements for coverage,
ect...ect..ect..
Just looks like a lot of new taxes. One way to bring down the cost of health care is competition not monopolization.
well, then we should campaign to improve and fix the bill....though taxes are inevitable, but its people's health were talking about so theres the dilemma...if we keep them minimal then no worries...I dont see other countries that do this in ruins so something should work. As for monopolization, the government could not do that...it should just force private insurers to clean up their act and play fair..maybe provide a better alternative.
[T]yrants, in order to strengthen their power, have made every effort to train their people not only in obedience and servility toward themselves, but also in adoration. [from The Politics of Obedience: Discourse of Voluntary Servitude - Étienne de La Boétie 1548]
so lets ignore all attempts by our elected leaders to fix anything MANY OF US ask of them, delete pride for our countries and deny any cooperation in favor of anarchy, paranoia, and silly quotes from a less civilized time.
Insurers are worthless parasites. Just like the banksters. Both are coddled by vast majorities in our society and our government. There needs to be a bloodless revolt and if that doesn't work it's time to pwn their asses with some physicality.
What's really funny is that the GOP is crying that 'tort reform' is one of the answers. Ask yourself a question: how likely is it that high malpractice premiums are more directly related to profit drives rather than lawsuits? Just look at TX & FL, where it's capped---NO DIFFERENCE! Fight for single payer health care. If govt just overwrote maternity & well childcare, that'd be a huge % of indiv costs.
It exasperates me that this country has become totally monopolized by these huge corporations, so-called antitrust laws are a joke. The US doesn't have to worry about socialism, it has to worry about this ruthless corporate welfare state.
"WASHINGTON -- The federal budget deficit surged to an all-time high of $1.42 trillion for the fiscal year 2009. The Obama administration projects deficits will total $9.1 trillion over the next decade unless corrective action is taken." Total US Unfunded Liabilities $105,705,390,000,000 Mmmm, mmm, mmmm, glad that affirmative action is working out for the country!

He is a totally ineffective speaker. He needs to get some coaching, and to learn some stuff worth saying. I cannot listen past the first five words, because of his monotone, and because he is trying to get us to want his plan, just because he's the prez or Bama or whatever.
I wonder how many people buy that nothing rhetoric?
mm maybe your problem is exactly that .. you don't listen. Finally he said what many been saying for loong time. But jeah he won't actually do nothing to do with health insurance industry. If he wanted real reform he would try get at least single payer
He is not worth the work of listening. He needs to hire someone to speak for him, and not his wife, so that we don't forget he's talking. Or he could have someone write it up in a logical presentation, and we could just read it--takes less time to read than to listen, if we could.
You are right. that he won't do anything, Can he? He is owned by a system, just like Bush was. This is what I mean. The real point is that he is saying nothing that will benefit the taxpayer. He is not rreally communicating, just talkiing. I guess we need to keep track of all this, as much as we can, so that we can help ourselves, however we can. Does he have the power/will to be truthful? How can we even know at this point? If anyone can answer, tell me. I am willing to listen. But be nice.
yeah, the first five words had so little expression, as did his face, he should have someone write it so we could follow his rhetoric on a web page or something. They're going to pass it, take our money, make it too expensive for the jobless, but we will all pay for the non-citizens, as the prices rise, and they kill us before our time. If I'm not right, I am open minded, but I cannot listen to him. He needs to put it in writing.
Then go download the text version and read it! Hey conservative base do you understand what an election is? The majority of Americans are not buying your rederick. Everything is bash bash bash! Look, we muddled through 8 years of total incompetence, how about we give him a chance! We were forced feed everything with Bush and it was all bad! So SHUT THE HELL UP, if you don't like it go someplace else! That's what we were all told for 8 years! Such short memories!
"LOWER PREMIUMS by $2,500 for a Family of Four" ????
obama "If you've got health insurance through your employer, you can keep your health insurance, keep your choice of doctor, keep your plan," obama said on 10-15-08 debate against McCain.
"The only thing we're going to try to do is lower costs so that those cost savings are passed onto you.
And we estimate we can ***CUT***the average family's premium by about $2,500 per year."
You never get sick and you never break anything, your losing money and receiving nothing in return.
davedavedaveannoy1 1 year ago
@davedavedaveannoy1 Yeah... just like the nationalization of fire and police departments. I think we should pay the cops every time they serve us a speeding ticket...and we should pay firefighters and sign off on it before they can save our homes. And we should continue to pay for uninsured Americans who have emergency room visits (we pay for that you know). And we shouldn't worry about other people getting sick as long as we're ok the world will be a great place lol. I love American morals.

davedavedaveannoy1 1 year ago
@dave Fair enough. I was being mildly sarcastic. I just think its funny how fire and police are paid for with our tax dollars, but medical can't be. Add the fact that we pay for uninsured people's emergency services and you'll find out that we're already coming out of pocket for the care of others. Fact is free healthcare saves lives. Do you know how many people have died from being denied coverage? Don't you know that there's a disparity in insurance coverage depending on age, sex, and race?
raventakayama 1 year ago
@dave A child was diagnosed with leukemia. The only true treatment option was experimental, and there was really no way his family could afford it plus insurance hardly ever covers experimental treatments. He was lucky enough to be enrolled into a case study and the treatment was paid for. He survived and is now cancer free. He's my professor and an advanced medical tech researcher. He has been a part of many treatment discoveries. That would have never happened if he had died at age 14.
raventakayama 1 year ago
@davedavedaveannoy1 I have a masters in public health and I know that one of the parameters for calculating percentage of disease related death is to account for insured vs uninsured patients. Its ridiculous for that to even be a consideration in such a calculation. People in mid to late stage Myeloma have a high chance of being denied coverage because of the aggressiveness of the cancer. With the treatment for myeloma being hundreds of thousands of dollars what should that family do?
raventakayama 1 year ago
@raventakayama They do what they can, If they are unable to afford medical coverage for her then thats as it remains. Then again if people could avoid living chemically there would be many problems that would cease to exist. They need to get out, eat healthy foods, and stop relying on a wide variety of drugs to help them live their lives.
davedavedaveannoy1 1 year ago
@davedavedaveannoy1 Well my friend Myeloma is Genetic. Meaning that it has nothing to do with lifestyle, diet, or exercise. Most of the top disease killers in the U.S. are genetic outside of heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes. Which means regardless of lifestyle we are all at risk. Fact is we never know what other people may mean to us. You are being very short sighted right now so I'll give you a story to think about... Continue.
raventakayama 1 year ago
@davedavedaveannoy1 continue... Therefore dictating who pays the doctor (whether you pay them out of pocket or the government pays them) doesn't change their opportunity for creative thinking and experimentation. The only downside to universal health care is setting a tax for it. But we've set a tax for libraries, teachers, police officers, politicians, and fire fighter's salaries, why can't a tax be set to provide dr's salaries, especially since they provide a universal and necessary service.
raventakayama 1 year ago
@raventakayama Alright, we are at a standstill, I obviously cannot convince you that you are wrong and vis versa for me, so this pursuit has just been a massive waste of time. We both have significant evidence supporting our opinion and cause, so....I am going to consider changing your opinion a lost cause. And though I believe your wrong and you believe the same for me I still respect your opinion. You believe in government management, I believe in private, but only time will tell the victory.
davedavedaveannoy1 1 year ago
@davedavedaveannoy1 lol yeah opinions are rarely changed...but that's human nature. And don't get me wrong. I don't believe in government. I just believe the government should PROTECT its people from harm even microscopic harm that's sometimes the direct result of the U.S. infrastructure, such as power lines, water filtration systems and so on. Trust me I studied prostate cancer at the genetic level for the worst half of grad school. But yeah man good talk...I guess lol.
raventakayama 1 year ago
@davedavedaveannoy1 Hey, its not a waste of time to have these arguments because poeple like me read them. I want to respond because I have simple facts that I think show private systems to be the wrong way to go
USA vs UK
USA spends 16% of GDP on health (8% from governmment, 8% from individuals)
UK spends 8% GDP on health (8% government, 0% from individuals)
USA spends more on administration then UK.
Democratically controlled healthcare is better, and cheaper. I can explain why if you like?
markgg1 9 months ago
@davedavedaveannoy1 US insures 80% of population, UK 100%. We also live three years longer, and that is taking into account lifestyle because the UK is the fattest most alcoholic nation in the EU.
I wont go into the moral angle of having people who lack protection, but mainly want to stick to economically because public systems win hands down on this issue. If you disagree, please point me to a private system which does better then a public one. You wont find one.
markgg1 9 months ago
@markgg1 Tisk Tisk, you people have so much potential but you remain clouded by thoughts of morality and of utopia. The UK is in debt and only kept afloat by their European neighbors. In fact, their healthcare system is so bad that they are considering dropping it. Universal healthcare is nice if you want to help the fellow man, but to support 300 million individuals for free is not profitable nor is it economically wise, its just conformity poured into a government trough.
davedavedaveannoy1 9 months ago
@davedavedaveannoy1 But how is it free when we pay via tax? The NHS is not a charity, but we all pay what we can afford, i.e. a percentage of our earnings in the form of taxes. The admi is cheaper then the US (so more efficient) delivers a better product, as we are healthier, and the best part is when you get sick you just turn up at the hospital and get sorted. It focuses on preventing serious disease before they happen, as this approach is cheaper.
markgg1 9 months ago
@davedavedaveannoy1 Im not an ideological person, I am just pragmatic. What works should be used. I have already proven that public systems are cheaper & better. This is plain fact. If all you can do is respond that I live in a 'utopian world view' then you have no argument.
On for example, clothes shops, they should be private as a public system would be rubbish. I am no communist. In Europe we know a mixed economy is best for everyone. Private and public both have roles in providing services
markgg1 9 months ago
@davedavedaveannoy1 Check the South African system then check back with me
davedavedaveannoy1 9 months ago
@davedavedaveannoy1 South Africa spend 8% of GDP on health (like the UK) but in real terms this is 1/4 our expenditure, as their GDP per head is 1/4 ours. They have a AIDs crisis, and actually have a massive private sector in health for the middle and upper classes. I dont think you can make that comparison.
Imagine a system where a proportion of your tax (less then you pay for insurance) left your pay check. In return you knew if you or family got sick, they just walked into a clinic for free?
markgg1 9 months ago
@davedavedaveannoy1 Cont' now apply that to now. You never know who is saved by the actions of others and you never know what that saved life may go on to do. Many doctors who work in the field of cancer were touched by the disease prior to becoming physicians. Some of them actually had the disease. The future quality of our health care depends upon the lives we save now. If helping to pay for health care is to much for you then you obviously haven't tried to think about the bigger picture.
raventakayama 1 year ago
@raventakayama Nationalized healthcare is thinking in the short run. When you remove a doctors ability to make as much as they want and restrict them to government plans it obliterates creativity and expansion into new opportunities. When a doctor realizes he or she can only make so much they provide shotty workmanship and don't labor to their full potential. Same problem with peasants under the Soviet system, they knew they could only make so much, thus Communistic agriculture suffered greatly.
davedavedaveannoy1 1 year ago
@davedave Actually no, in England doctors get pay raises on a case by case basis. Over here docs get paid by the number times they see a patient over there they get paid more if the same patient doesn't have repeat visits. Its the same as reaching a quota. Plus considering the fact that MOST of the RECENT medical breakthroughs or new ideas have come from other countries, such as Cuba, which has free healthcare, there's no short comings on creativity. Plus state side you get grants for that.
raventakayama 1 year ago
@davedavedaveannoy1 A doctor who works better, and has better ideas in a nationalised system will get promoted quicker, and will therefore earn more money and have prestige. Your argument applies for both private and public.
What I find from your side is this: you guys make very plausible ideological arguments against public health, but do not have evidence to support it. The US has the most expensive health system, and worse outcome. This is enough evidence to show how poor the system is.
markgg1 9 months ago
@raventakayama Finally some reason in this debate. America is spending 16% of their money on health! 1/6 of all of your money goes on a service the rest of can pay for with 1/10th of the money, and get a FREE better service.
People are so blinded by ideology that they shoot themselves in the foot. People's lives are literally being lost for this sort of thinking. I cant bear to imagine what it would be like to get Cancer and know you are uninsured. Its not just bad for individual & society
markgg1 9 months ago
@markgg1 Yeah man don't bother with dave. I hit him with a condescending message because I figured he didn't have a legitimate reason for disliking healthcare reform, he's just repeating what he's told. There's no critical thought process in people like that so there's no need in debating. You'll never get him to think about it.

A) Wealth (in more ways than money)
B) Power
Every policy/bill/act.. etc etc has so many stupid clauses to benefit themselves of point A or B that; a simple argument of "make health care affordable to all" becomes a endless debate between morons.

I told my friend that he needed to get over his inability to get insurance because of a "pre-existing condition". He's just a whiner anyway.

P1marcus0d 2 years ago
fees - The problem is you have a public option plan what you will do in essence is eliminate private insurance therefore eliminating over 100,000 jobs and increase unemployment will shoot up - Also, who will fund this public option plan it will probably be the middle-class worker like myself who is already getting raped by other taxes imposed by the gov't - Also, what about these companies looking to buy better health plans for there employee, Health insurer cant control what your employer buy

We could help more ppl if we had a market that was truly free.
dontdispie 2 years ago
The health insurance companies should all be prosecuted under RICO for running a glorified protection racket, for extorting money from all Americans and then denying payment when we get sick. They should then be charged with crimes against humanity for killing the thousands upon thousands of people to whom they've denied coverage.

Remember Odumbo did the Big PharmA deal...

Obama is hustling you. All of these so called corporate lobbyist funded his campaign. And he took the money gratefully.
FranG1214 2 years ago
Well, actually 65% of the money spent in health care already comes from the gov. We practically have socialized medicine already this bill will just increase that %. In the early 60s we began this managed care, medicare, medicaid and various other social programs. This is precisely the time medical costs began to rise. What we need is less gov. interference not more.
Check out Ron Paul's C-span interview for his book "end the fed" where he discusses this very topic.

I'm sure some of you will die a sickening death without help from the doctor and you will cry back why people want universal healthcare and why insur denied you.
niamtxiv 2 years ago 4
You have a choice, either pay the higher prices for high quality healthcare or choose "Obamacare socialized medicine" where you will get cheap/downgraded healthcare but have to wait 5+ hours to see a doctor.
You decide!

Yes, socialized healthcare doesn't work! I mean, look at how Norway's doing! (/sarcasm)

I see the Obama haters are out in droves with nothing intelligent to say on the issue here. No counter solutions, not giving a damn or taking into consideration that health care costs are ridiculous, and the usual scapegoating thrown to the government not the private sector BS that these people turn their blind eyes too.
greatgaara 2 years ago
well, maybe because it is self evident, that you question a fascist government when they want to bring up a national health insurance.
what should one say about obama? that he's a puppet just as w. bush was or that he seems to be world champion in breaking promises.
ah well. go on and believe that obama is going to reform the world in a way that benefits the people just because he's black.

You are right the insurance company are looking out for you best interest not there own.
blackxavior 2 years ago
If the insurance copanies do not make a profit, guess what? You have no insurance. Secondly, the left is claiming the government is the solution to the problem. Well, if you think the insurance companies are bad wait until government bureaucracy fully takes over. The only real solution is to get the third party payor out of the equation. In other words: free markets and capitalism is the answer.
PittMetsZep 2 years ago
The post office does not make a profit but you still have mail service. UPS and FedEx still operate in competition of the post office. A government run non for profit insurance agency will have the same effect the post office has on the market. Providing a essential service and forcing insurance agency's to compete like UPS does. If you know anything about processes you now that prevention is more cost effective than fixing defects. We pay 2x more than other country's, the market is broken.
blackxavior 2 years ago
But look @ the difference in efficiency. Look at the DMV. Or using your FedEx example it is clean, fast and efficient the post office is none of these things. And not only does the post office not make a profit they are broke. If the post office did not exist there would still be private competition the gov. is not needed to keep an industry competitive or we would have a "gov. option" in every industry out there.
dontdispie 2 years ago
Why do people always get stuck on the post office? Im talking about skewing the market in the direction of public interest. The reason FedEx is so great is because they have insane competition. Why is it that there are 6 insurance agency in my small town but 14000 people a week are losing there insurance to rate hikes? Why is it that people in the reset of the industrialized world pay half what we pay per person in health care cost? The insurance lobby has distorted the market.
blackxavior 2 years ago
The reason we need a gov option on health care is because it is more profitable for you to pay insurance then when you get sick they drop you and let you die. That is not the case for a industry like retail where if you die then they can not sell to you. It is simply economics.
blackxavior 2 years ago
But we have many gov. requirements that dont let you buy insurance across state lines, it is not currently a competitive market due to gov. interference. More gov. is not the answer.
Prior to the 60s ppl had health insurance only for catastrophic cases and paid out of pocket for routine services and the prices stayed low. For those who couldn't afford it services were rendered for free by Dr.s or churches or charity would step in. Watch Dr. Ron Pauls ideas on this topic, he has some good ones.

Basically they just lie to themselves.

sensless1mc 2 years ago
THEN MAYBE THE PRIVATE SECTION SHOULD GO CLEAN UP ITS ACT AND STOP GOING NUTS ON HEALTH CARE COSTS!!!! Then the government would not need to get involved.
greatgaara 2 years ago 3
If the government was just going to prevent corruption in private health insurers then Im all for it, but why does the bill contain so much other BS like...
(1) taxes on certain individuals who did not obtain acceptable coverage,
(2) penalties for employers whose coverage failed to meet the requirements for coverage,
ect...ect..ect..
Just looks like a lot of new taxes. One way to bring down the cost of health care is competition not monopolization.
sensless1mc 2 years ago 2
well, then we should campaign to improve and fix the bill....though taxes are inevitable, but its people's health were talking about so theres the dilemma...if we keep them minimal then no worries...I dont see other countries that do this in ruins so something should work. As for monopolization, the government could not do that...it should just force private insurers to clean up their act and play fair..maybe provide a better alternative.

He is a totally ineffective speaker. He needs to get some coaching, and to learn some stuff worth saying. I cannot listen past the first five words, because of his monotone, and because he is trying to get us to want his plan, just because he's the prez or Bama or whatever.
I wonder how many people buy that nothing rhetoric?
mdryden02 2 years ago
mm maybe your problem is exactly that .. you don't listen. Finally he said what many been saying for loong time. But jeah he won't actually do nothing to do with health insurance industry. If he wanted real reform he would try get at least single payer
Lonao 2 years ago
He is not worth the work of listening. He needs to hire someone to speak for him, and not his wife, so that we don't forget he's talking. Or he could have someone write it up in a logical presentation, and we could just read it--takes less time to read than to listen, if we could.
mdryden02 2 years ago
You are right. that he won't do anything, Can he? He is owned by a system, just like Bush was. This is what I mean. The real point is that he is saying nothing that will benefit the taxpayer. He is not rreally communicating, just talkiing. I guess we need to keep track of all this, as much as we can, so that we can help ourselves, however we can. Does he have the power/will to be truthful? How can we even know at this point? If anyone can answer, tell me. I am willing to listen. But be nice.
mdryden02 2 years ago
wow, all that from the from the first five words...pretty good mdryden, pretty good.
Dejayfever1 2 years ago
yeah, the first five words had so little expression, as did his face, he should have someone write it so we could follow his rhetoric on a web page or something. They're going to pass it, take our money, make it too expensive for the jobless, but we will all pay for the non-citizens, as the prices rise, and they kill us before our time. If I'm not right, I am open minded, but I cannot listen to him. He needs to put it in writing.
mdryden02 2 years ago
Then go download the text version and read it! Hey conservative base do you understand what an election is? The majority of Americans are not buying your rederick. Everything is bash bash bash! Look, we muddled through 8 years of total incompetence, how about we give him a chance! We were forced feed everything with Bush and it was all bad! So SHUT THE HELL UP, if you don't like it go someplace else! That's what we were all told for 8 years! Such short memories!
