Nadia was good...but I think Svetlana Boguinskaya is the most expressive and artistic gymnast ever....Catalina Ponor is gorgeous in everything but especially powerful on beam and floor...Anna Pavlova and Ksenia Semenova are, as most of russians, tremendously dramatic in their movements...Raducan was, also, very powerful and willful

@miley345ana I don't think it's possible to compare gymnasts from different eras. The time when Nadia competed was totally different from today. There are gymnasts today and from the past who could have gotten more than 7 perfect 10s at the 1976 Olympics. As much as I love Nadia, I really don't know how she would do in this code. Then again, she could have done just as well. Since gymnastics keeps evolving, I don't think we can say that a particular gymnast is "the best."

I kind of miss the "old fashioned" tumbling passes on FX where there is a minimum of running (say, 5 or 6 steps) with more actual tumbling. Within the past 10 - 15 years tumbling passes have become almost all running with a single or maybe 2 acrobatic tricks at the end. I don't mean to judge, only to state a personal preference.

@gRetteelL No hay edad específica. Hay niños que empiezan a los 3 años; Daiane Dos Santos, una atleta olímpica importantísima y muy celebrada, empezó a los 11. Mientras más vieja seás, más te va a costar la flexibilidad y quitarte el miedo de aprender elementos nuevos, pero no hay razón por la cual no empezar el deporte si es que de verdad te gusta. Ya te queda a vos a qué nivel e intensidad querrás llegar. :)

sorry but Nastia hasnt made any impact in gymnastics unless you are 7 and just watched your first olympics.

apart from great skillz that's about it.she cant dance and she hasnt invented any new moves.

infact no one rly did something inovative since the 80s and early 90s,they just add more difficulty and cut the elegance,grace,dance etc.

pretty soon watching gymnastics will be as watching circus acrobats,imo.

I think nastia has made an impact in atleast American gymnastics tying Shannon Miller on the number of world championship medals and number of medals earned in 1 olympics. Also, being olympic all around champion and a world champion counts for something.

OK, Nastia is a very good gymnast. Nastia has made an impact in modern gymnastics which lacks choreography and flexibility, which she kept even when the new code came along.

I'm not much of a Nastia fan but I give her that much credit.

watching that nastia clip, it's hard to believe that that moment probably means hardly anything now compared to what was to come. she shocked just about everyone and beat shawn in beijing... now THAT was a great moment in time! She will NEVER be a great female like other american gymnasts ! Shannon Miller or Dominique Dawes for example !
