  • Nicely done! Video Dance TV is featuring this video as the DANCE VIDEO OF THE DAY. Cheers!

  • somebody explain this video? please!! (:

  • My teacher showed me this. X3 We're learning about stereotypes and how it effects people.

  • Same here

  • ............. Meh.

  • I watched this in tikkun olam it was creepy

  • this was fabulous.

kudos to the creator and all who made this video.

    totally profound.

  • We watched this in Language Arts. Amazing video, bravo.

  • My professor required us to watch this video for a class on video production. Loved it, thank you.

  • Go Jon Chu!! This is awesome! My Language Arts teacher showed us this video and we had to write a paper on it!! :)

  • amazing video

  • Absolutely brilliant. No wonder you won the prize for this Spike Lee-esque triumph. Great job, Mr. Chu. Great to see you at Cinequest as well.

  • Great video! It's amazing how discriminating ppl can be. Awesome job!

  • would you please, share what you think about this video? what is the hidden message behind this?

  • i watched this in school today

  • that was really good jon a very nice video

  • this video is sooo cool i watched at school in peace first

  • good video. don't stero type.

  • this movie is really cool but is it necessary to show that the white lady steals?

  • @michaelballack1234

its reality white people steal too, dont be fooled. open your eyes, i am sure your a white man in denial saying this

  • pure creativity!!!

  • Really a great video thnks

  • Excellent! Thank you.

  • I did a college group project during summer quarter about forms of diversity and we used this video for the summary and everybody loved it! We got a high grade for it!

  • i was at a convenience store and the shopkeeper told me to open my bag and she checked it and there was nothing in it. She told me not to open my bag in the store wtf? i was checking the money in my wallet. I'm a girl btw and I don't even look like the type of person to steal something I've never stolen something in my life! There were 3 white people together in the store and she only kept her eye on me.

  • nice! just shows you dont need to speak to (mis)communicate.

  • this is soooo great :D good job jon :)

  • great job! nice touch with the tap dancing.

  • this is sooo true and i get it!! everything is not what it appears to be... I LOVE IT!!

  • I love everything you do Jon... but this is the first that I'm putting on my FB. :)

  • holy shit....WOW....absolutely amazing

  • really interesting, WHY ASIAN MAN AT THE COUNTER?! he should be something better !! like the place owner

  • wow just amazing i watched it in my school and its true i rather trust other races then old people =)

  • I don't think the message is "don't trust old people." The message is just don't judge anybody by what you think on the outside. All three people judged each other in that store, and all were wrong by their preconceived notions...Even the notion that the old lady is an upstanding citizen. The real point shouldn't be muddled just because the lady stole something at the end.

  • Wow. This really nice.

  • ...fantastic. Without words. Thats real Art ! Great work !

  • one word...wow!

  • muito bom um dos melhores , curtas que eu vi , mostra a realidade de idéias pré fixadas que a sociedade nos coloca desde pequenos , e agimos sem saber porque !

    is very good !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • your movies and other work is great, but this is my favorite thing you've made.

  • awesome, nothing like it :)

  • nothing ive seen before.

    awesome!

  • This short film is amazing ! I love the fact that the only words spoken throughout it were the mumbles during the Baptism scene. The small flashbacks were very effective too. It's stuff like this that makes me look up to you Jon M Chu, you are amazing!

    xox

  • Favd!

  • Very nice vid man. Im in a video productions class at North Pole High School(no joke). like your style as a director, and how you encorporate dance to communicate.

  • this video is amazing

    i love it!!!!

i wasnt going to watch it at first but im glad i did....the story shows how people judge.

  • USC!!! Love it...

  • Just Goes To Show How Much people Stereotype Others...Amazing video :D

  • I was stressed during the whole video wondering what could happen next just because of the dance! Great video! Very powerful!

  • Man that kid can dance! Great timing with audio and video too.

  • Very powerful video.

  • I second that.

  • cool.

  • that was very nice---hahaha old lady taking a snickerz!!!

  • Man, the lady stole a Snicker's bar, but nice video.

  • Very nice.

  • jon that was excelent

  • that was different.

it was really thrilling and kinda keen and the sound of the taps was calming at the same time

  • that was brilliant.........holy ja molee........no doubt ive met a few peopel whowould have acted in the sam emanner as the store clerk.......its 2009 its about time some people start acting it .. great short.....def skills

  • this was sick dawg. It is so suspenseful and normally when I get all emotional i start 2 dance n it relieves me!

  • loving the spike lee shot at 1:16

  • Wow i didn't think Chris Brown was a good editor and cinematographer!

  • incredible.

  • that was really, really good man! I loved it!

  • I haven't seen any, or heard for that matter, contemporary filmmaker use sound quite the way you do. It has an obscure rhythm that can really push a story along, well. Combined with all of your images, it creates this sort feeling that puts you in the middle of a dance. Jousting threw the changing tempo, and letting one's ears and eyes do the rest.

  • omg. that was awesome!!!!

  • SO COOL!!!

  • awesome

  • wow i really like it cause you know it really is annoying for people to assume somethings of you before they even know you

  • Sound! Tap dancing really built up the suspense. Loved the Mexican music in the background.

  • teaches a very big lesson in life. thoguht the grandma stealing at end was funny

  • the use of stills reminded me of run lola run

  • one word wow

    that was so awesome

  • that was powerful. i'm a senior at rancho verde high and i've been thinking about going into a field of engineering, but watching your work makes me rethink that. years ago i was wanting to get into film but i dont know what i really want to do.

  • excellent satire. very well shot and great expression. 5

  • damn... that was good. great story.

  • That was FANTASTIC.

  • this was REALLY good.

  • beautiful!!!!

  • I love the backgroud music this video has it makes it very appealing. Raises suspense and relaxes the mine at the end. If you don't know what i mean you don't know music.

  • was that background music? i thought it was him tapping.

  • it was tapping

  • it was him tap-dancing at the end

  • really good movie

  • its a really good movie! you rock man! love you and your videos!

  • Wow! You have taken Dance on Film to a completely different level here. I have added this to my favorites and hope that all of my dance students will watch it. Thanks you : )

  • amazing. leaves me speechless.

  • Really good. And at the end I realized I had made an assumption myself about the boy from the first scene. Very interesting detail.

  • i think it`s amazes me every time i watch it.

  • it`s incredible how many things you can express using just images and sounds. it`s unbelivable.

and the interesting part about it is that u can learn about chu`s personality by letting this videos getting inside ur soul.

    u`r great, man. i just love u

  • A truly wonderful film. I particularly liked the use of stills to drive the cliched stereotypes idea forward.

I also like the tap dancing soundtrack.

    Nice work.

  • That bitch stole my candy bar!

  • wow this leaves me speachless :o

  • WOW! this film is amazing!!

I found myself really in the short. Thank you john

  • ROFL!!! the grannytook the chocolate bar!!!

  • DAMN

  • WOW!! that was amazing! love it

  • wow, that was really good!!

  • Loved the film..... I take it , the video is also about racism???

  • I wouldn't have said racism was necessarily a part of this short. The theme is about assuming a stereotyped behaviour from an individual based on the misperception of the behaviour of a social group. In this case, the lady happened to be white and the young boy black. But I believe it was the factors of age and clothing choices that played the biggest misperception by the shop owner.

  • wow that was truly remarkable first impressions aren't always accurate haha damn they had him pegged all wrong i loved it!

  • that was soo cool !

  • amazing

  • bravo!

  • this film is amazing!!

the guy who taps is ace!!

  • awesome vid..

that was really creative and the best short film i've seen.

  • that was great i loved it

  • badass....u were born to make movies...enough said

  • that was really creative, probabally the best short film ive seen in my life, ever. i bet after your professor saw that, he knew that you were gonna be a famous director later on in life, good job jon!

  • makes a lot of sense.

  • that waz really good

  • I love this video...

BUT, I feel like I've seen it before, it looks so familiar...

thats really gonna bug me until I find out where I've seen it...

its very creative, I really liked it!

    :-)

  • creative and really good

  • the part with the lady stealing the candy bar was kind of funny

  • that was reallly good lol

  • I dig this i was just thinking of making a short film or documentry..the other day..do u need to ask everyones approval while taping?

    love this tho'

  • Brilliantly addictive... With no doubt this short film makes the viewer pay full attention to it... Having no dialogues, neither voices, gives it a great atmosphere, and makes it possible to dedicate complete concentration to every single thing that happens...

Thank you very much for this short film... Even if I come 7 years late...

  • whoa? the old lady took the sneakers... she even have change to pay for it... so bad.. snickers are my fave..

  • thats great! very well done. thanks!

  • lol the grandma took it.

  • wow. that is soooo wat people think of in everyday life with the first impressions and judging kind of thing.

PS: the old lady is MISCHEVIOUS

    teeeeeeeeheeeeeeeee

  • jon was that you at the register ha ha just kidding great work go acdc!

  • WOW! That's what I like about you John. You can b this creative... I don't know any directors who has this much talent. I have 2 admit and others have to admit it 2, most movies are the same thing... u already know whats going to happen before you even see it, but your diffrent you add something that most directors would have never thought of, surprises that will shock others, and it's so cool, no wonder I can't go one day with out watching step up 2! Lol! Promise me u will keep ^ the good work!

  • Firstly: Kiss Ass, Secondly: How many directors do you actually know of?

  • So true. Great job.

  • John.

You have, in my opinion, created the best short film of all time.

The whole time I was watching, I was thinking, wow, thats what everyday life looks like for some people.

    All around amazing.

  • I hope you like my short film :)

  • Hi, sorry for my bad english. Your short film was an inspiration for me to do my short film. Thanks :)

    Very good

  • very very good video. It's so true

  • lol the old lady took the snickers!!!

  • really nice ^^ i liked it !

  • wow.

  • amazing!!

  • WOW!!! simple amazing

  • I almost cried because this video had so much meaning to it.... it was amazing

its sad how ppl will judge others by just looking at them... But they really should be looking at whats in ppls hearts!!!

    GREAT VIDEO

  • the making of a truly great director

  • wow.. very magnificent

  • This is truly one of the best not only short films, but films I've ever seen. It is a great message and is just phenomenal on all accounts.

  • Amazing video... My soc. teacher recommended her class watch it, and I'm very glad that I did.

  • that was amazing.

  • Check out my flips. Please subscribe, i am going for 50 by july.

  • That was really amazing. You are a great producer and writer. This proves that the least expected people may do bad things. The more expected by the public may be different then you suspect. I love how you made the kid look like he was running from the cops when he was really dancing and then the lady stealing the snickers.
