I don't think the message is "don't trust old people." The message is just don't judge anybody by what you think on the outside. All three people judged each other in that store, and all were wrong by their preconceived notions...Even the notion that the old lady is an upstanding citizen. The real point shouldn't be muddled just because the lady stole something at the end.

This short film is amazing ! I love the fact that the only words spoken throughout it were the mumbles during the Baptism scene. The small flashbacks were very effective too. It's stuff like this that makes me look up to you Jon M Chu, you are amazing!

I haven't seen any, or heard for that matter, contemporary filmmaker use sound quite the way you do. It has an obscure rhythm that can really push a story along, well. Combined with all of your images, it creates this sort feeling that puts you in the middle of a dance. Jousting threw the changing tempo, and letting one's ears and eyes do the rest.

I wouldn't have said racism was necessarily a part of this short. The theme is about assuming a stereotyped behaviour from an individual based on the misperception of the behaviour of a social group. In this case, the lady happened to be white and the young boy black. But I believe it was the factors of age and clothing choices that played the biggest misperception by the shop owner.
