  • A good trap allows you to continue the game if you fail.

5... Nxe5 and you are fucked.

  • Comment removed

  • Its adequate, only if you are facing a noob.

  • Its decent enough...but going for specific traps can be quite frustrating. 99% of the time your opponent is not going to do exactly what you want. If you're too focused on your one tactic, its blinds you to what your opponent may be doing and he will checkmate you out of nowhere. My method is to set up a good covering position in early game knights and pawns, then come up with plans as required after that. Improvisation is key. But then, my usual opponent is a chess noob.

  • who mutes coldplay you shiteating bastereds

  • to people who say "this is the best trap ever" ... you're chess noobs, sorry. this is universally known to all half decent chess players. to say "I've never learnt this because I play sicilian, 1.d4 for white" blah blah = bullshit. EVERY chess master 100% knows this. So OP is basically rehashing widely known material to coldplay music end of story

  • that really might be the best trap ever and ive never even seen it (im a queens gambit/sicilian player). also, who mutes coldplay??

  • y take queen, nxe5!

  • It's the Legal's checkmate

  • what is the song name ?

  • Yes yes this is legal's mate. It is too popular now and only works against amateurs. It can really screw you though. There are easy counterattacks that can result in the loss of a queen

  • Sadly there are to less black pieces-player traps.

Except for e.g.: Ruy Lopez Mortimer -

  • this is the pseudo-sacrifice of sir legal

  • yea but is a game going to go exactly like that? no.

  • there are many ways that I, as black, wouldve gotten out of that situation...just saying...

  • HOW IS THE SONG CALLED?(and why does no1 ever reply to these questions)

  • @MrRubberbander It's called Clocks, by Coldplay.

  • Knowone replies because it's annoying.

  • @MrRubberbander no1 replies because that sir a a stupid question

  • legal's legacy

  • h3 needs to be played before Nxe5

  • Best trap for a Philidor's defense player. This is a very old tactic, it's called "Legal's Unpin".

    works mostly for newbs.

  • h3 should be played instead of nxe5. If bh5, then nxe5 would be effective, because after Nxe5 Qxh5 Nxc4, white has Qb5+ winning back the knight, and ultimately winning a pawn in that variation. Of course black can avoid all this and play Bd7 after h3, but whatever :P

  • are you stupid id nxe5 than white is loosing retard

  • whoever you played and beat with this must have been really inexperienced lol :P

  • Against any good player, white's NxE5 will result in black - NxE5, white has traded a knight for a pawn. White's queen is still under attack, causing him to further weaken his position forcing him to block the attack with either his k-b pawn or his w-bishop. In either case, white will be in trouble from here on out, if he blocks with the pawn, black can take his bishop and see if white wants to further weaken his defense by getting his bishop in trade, if the bishop blocks, he can trade bishops.

  • This is not a trap at all this is just bone headed chess. A trap is when oops he shouldn't have played bg4 but in fact it's a good move and nxe5 is ?? since black just plays Nxe5 winning (instead of taking the queen which a spokesman for Geico might do)

  • It's called Legal's trap.

  • 5. h3 first please

  • great choice of song for the background

  • @Randoman590 I sincerely hope you are being sarcastic.

  • Right on! I almost always open with the king's pawn. I play on Yahoo. I'm going to try this next time. I finally broke through 1300 rating. This should take me to 1400 easy. Mwahahahahaaa!!!

  • @SupernaturalOrder have u been playing with noobs?

  • i dont see the point playing against yourself. but anyways, congrats! whats ur winning streak by the way?

  • awesome

  • escaque64yconcafe.blogspot.com/

  • If you play h3 first after the pin you end up a pawn ahead even after Nxe5. I don't remember the exact variation, but I know I've seen it before.

  • It`s called Legal`s mate. He invented it accidentally 1787, he had 85 years

  • Yeah I would take the knight instead of the queen if I was black. Risky. Don't try it against total chess geniuses ;)

  • this is not easy to checkmate black as it is being shown, black may capture e5 knight by his knight also, that would result in piece down and defeat of the white....

  • yes, like said my friend this is wrong because of taking the queen, black respond with Nxe5.

  • after bc6 no one plays d5

  • good 'ol Ruy Lopez

  • Legal tema

  • Ima light myself on fire

  • it,s realy a very big misteke because if white takes on e5 tha correct move for black is N takes e5,and bishp is soported by e5 knight......

  • yeah this is wrong because the pawn has to be played to h3 before the knight can exchange on e5.

  • at move 3 or 4 if black moved his knight out which most players do before pawns or bishops, it would stop this.

  • fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkku bitchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • Mate de Legal, is what is called

  • A very risky move - would'nt dare try on Chess.com mostly good players. I am myself rated 1477 and even players rated 900 would see this.

  • In Dutch it is called kaddettenmat. I used to try it always as a child. It is a great trap, and ofcourse black is able to avoid it.

  • its great, its called the legal trap

  • are you playing like a level 2 computer? all black needs to do is Nxe5 and you lose....

  • You've posted this before with a different title. And a smooth fade out on the audio would be nice at the end.

Neat trick but risky, wouldn't fancy it much myself unless playing somebody inexperienced.

  • Umm...this is called legal's mate...you do know that, right?

  • yes, they can capture the knight, but white still wins a pawn because he takes the bishop on g4 with their queen the next move

  • Ummm.. at 0:26 black could have taken the white knight..

ANyone who doest do this is a dumbass.

  • this is just legal trap played by fish

  • mute button we meet again

  • @fifalegend415

    >muting a good song

post that shit on videos with 009 in the background.

  • @fifalegend415 Coldplay and 007dreamscape are completely different, fuck you.

  • @fifalegend415 Coldplay is awesome >;o

  • @fifalegend415 i've you like this song are you gay?

  • @fifalegend415 D: bu- bu- but this is Coldplay....

  • @RubenARuiz thank god for mute button

  • @fifalegend415 same here

  • nxe5 instead of bxd1 and you've lost :(

  • @jus4u, then you just won a bishop... so it would still be a good play. However, if they took it with a horse, that's different. However, you would be able to save your queen if they did that. I found this actually very insightful, never saw that opportunity before.

  • hey what would happen if at 00:24 the black pawn took the knight instead of moving the bishop next to the king? wouldnt be such a hot play

  • damn thats a cold check mate lol

  • I played something very similar the other day.

  • You blundered it.

Nxe5 would be the winning move for Black.

  • Comment removed

  • Why would white give up it's queen like that?? N00B!

  • @cheatmasterbw Because that is the trap. If black takes the queen black gets mated in 2. The idea of chess isn't to protect your queen, it is to checkmate the other players king.

  • @mixmastermeeks *facepalm*

  • @cheatmasterbw Oh, sorry, I didn't know you are a douche.

  • Assuming your opponent is retarded...

  • This counts on your opponent being stupid. Nxe5 leads to a winning advantage for black.

  • @DMK000 The actual line in the legal trap has pawn to h3 attacking the black bishop. If that is done and black moves bishop to h5 in order to get away from the attack but still pin the knight then white, at a minimum is going to win some material. Nxe5 won't be possible because of the pawn on h3.

  • BEAUTIFUL!

  • before you set the trap with your knight, try to kick the bishop back with h3. If the bishop moves back to h5, then set the trap. If the bishop takes the bait. You win. If the black knight takes on e5. You can easily recapture the bishop, without the black knight defending it. And even if the black knight tries to capture the white bishop on c4, you could do Qb5 which would fork the knight and king. Easy game after with queen dominating the center.

  • @blazethesecond Good point.

  • that scenario is unlikely.

  • lol knight catch on e5? in spite of bishop take queen.. bye bye trap.. if you played instead of k C6 probably a stupid move like h6 the trap probably worked better :)

  • everytime i play e4 black plays c5

  • Dude you didn't come up with this: it's called Legal's mate

    ww w.chess. com/article/view/legals-mate

  • This would never work because nobody would be dumb enough to be such a shit opponent.

  • hard to focus with that bad sound track.

  • apart from the fact that after black plays 5. ...Nxe5 white has just lost a piece for a pawn and is likely to lose the game :P this trap doesn't work if black plays Nc6

... and white is forced to play 6. Be2 because both his queen and bishop are enprise

  • Brilliant play

  • Je n'aurais JAMAIS pensé que l'ordinateur pouvait être aussi naïf !

I NEVER imagined as the computer could be so naive!

    Merci

    Thank you

  • can the bishop attack the king Sideways?

  • this is called Legals mate.Is for beginners

  • Why not 6. Nc6xe5?

  • @MrHarelegenda

    No. I mean after Nxe5, to play knight from c6 x Ne5

  • you made a mistake, instead of taking the queen black clould take tha knight wining a piece

  • Typical gioco piano trap. 5..Nxe5 is what black should play. Deny the queen !!

  • It is named Legal's Mat

  • sick trap...within 10 minutes of watching this video I had collected 3 scalps on Chess.com...bravo

  • im bored..........................dies

  • wow... I never though to just advance the knight in that situation, it was always just immediately ruled out as a bad move and the brain went on to other things lol.. thanks for the upload :)

  • Légal Trap

  • Thumbs up if u muted.

  • lovely move and lovely quote "the queen sacrifice" hahaha :)

  • you know that black could take on e5 with the knight instead of taking the queen, and white would be a piece down, for this not to happen you have to play h3 first, then if Bh5 you take on e5. In this position if Nxe5 Qxh5 Nxc4 Qb5+ and white is a pawn up.

  • @shinyninetales999 nop, white captures Qxg4 and white is ahead a pawn as well as three pieces vs one piece in the game.

  • @denizaykin after Nxe5, the knight is actually protecting the bishop :/

  • Thumbs up if you can't tell what the fuck's going on and don't have the time to freeze frame every move, so you're just going to go do something more fun now.

    Or if you like cats.

  • @bbrake hahahahaha!!,>.<

  • @bbrake hey I like cats... Oh...

This vid is not about cats. Darn.

  • @bbrake I plan to make a video of my white kitty playing chess with a background poster of a naked Kate Upton, its going to take over the internet, watch me go viral. Remember you'll say someday that I responded to one of your comments. That would be the greatest achievement of your life.

  • This would work on players rated below maybe 800. maybe 1100 even but not much higher than that. If you play higher rated players don't bother with this trick cause the game is lost for white after the Nxe5 trick.

  • thumbs up if you have no idea what the numbers mean but you act like you do and you read them in your head! xD

  • CHELSEA FC

  • NO NO NO black should just play NXE5 on move 5 and wins a knight fo a pawn

  • @josundance1 but then the queen takes the bishop

  • @TheMalstead and then the knight takes the Queen ;)

  • kuk

  • thumbs up if you watched this because you just want to

  • This doesn't give a new meaning to the term "queen sacrifice," throwing the queen at you, out of semantic frustration, thats a new meaning to queen sacrifice....

  • your relying on the fact that they wont do four knights and that they dont know the legal mate

  • THAT RED SHIT IS IN THA WAY

  • @GeekBot101 it assumes they won't. Duuuur

  • legals mate

  • Black can play 5... Nxe5 protecting his bishop instead of taking the queen and he is compleatly winning.

  • @Vonzi0000 Correct. However, if you insert h3 before Nxe5 and he plays Bh5, then Nxe5 works, because if black takes the knight, you play Qxh5, then if Nxc4, Qb5+ wins his knight and you end up a pawn up

  • WE ALL HATE THIS SONG

  • thank you so much i won a torunament (junior torunament) the last game with this queen sacrfice!

  • This song makes me want to punch babies

  • @198Rocker between that and regular abortions we should reach a healthier number sooner than later. therefore.. you should always listen to this song--follow those urges

  • Its called the Legal trap. created by a frenchman many years ago. :D. still good video

  • Sorry if its hard to read, on phone :p

  • It's not doing the exact trap in a game, its seeing the trap mid game. I've beaten acouple people with this because you don't it to be exact or in the beginning to set it up

  • old as hell. it wont work with a kid !!

  • It is good for someone like a lvl1 player.

  • yes..but this trap isn't ok in this position...5 ,,, Ne5 and the Bishop on g4 isnt hanging...the traps works if no black Knight can take on e5

  • nerd

  • waht sing

  • @deathwish2710 Clocks - Coldplay (i think)

  • I fell to this one....It really pissed me off

  • I have played this opening probably 100 times against human opponents and it has worked once in a game with 15 minute time limit and once in a one minute game. Most players don't follow the opening line shown in response here and pin the knight and if they do, they simply take the knight that takes the pawn. It is tricky, but transparent.

  • lame:!!

  • The only thing is what is the possibility of them doing those exact moves?

  • sa marche pas toultemps ... :D c rare

  • 5.... NxE5, this is not great trap, because white loose material, and lose the game after this shitty move. So tumbs down, this is trap for 4 years old newbie, not against a chess player!

  • wow...good one :D

  • the fuck man, u guys speak another language in here, dont tell me you know these codes without even counting them on the board... o.o

  • @aznspunk we pretty much do xD

  • @aznspunk they are all a bunch of nerds

  • @TheRpsv after a week of play you should know the codes. if you're good after a few intensive months you can play blindly ^^

  • what does x mean

  • @icon0x1

    to take.

As in N x e5 means the Knight takes on E5.

  • Instead of B*d1, if black ply N*e5! it is 0-1

  • The legal mate is the same however it is a move longer and compensates for 4. Nxe5 Nxe5. white simply plays 4. h3! if 4. ... Bh5 the game continues with 5. Nxe5 with this video's mate line intact, or 5. ... Nxe5 the bishop on h5 is hanging and 6. Qxh5 Nxc4 7. Qb5+ ... 8. Qxc4 and white is up a pawn for his trouble.

  • And if black eats knight instead? Work only against newbe.

  • amazing trick......

  • is Lelouch is playing ?

  • @29billyclementine do you know this songs name?

  • @Crashbandicoot701 clocks- clodplay
