What program do you use to remove background noise (e.g. the instruments)?

I didn't remove any instrumental; I rather serendipitously found the a cappella, which came with vocals only.  Removing parts from a track that's already mixed never really works.

Actually, I didn't perform the piano accompaniment; I wouldn't know middle C from a hole in the ground. The accompaniment was, as noted in the description, performed by The Piano Tribute Players.
