  • i wish i knew how to get my bass to sound like that

  • WHOA!!! check that drum set

  • GO TAMBOURIN PLAYER GO!!!

  • his bass sounds so nice in this :oooo

  • I live and work in Newmarket Ontario.... Great band

  • these kind of bands are the REAL new good music :)

  • :)<3<3<3

  • It's weird, I watched the video of them on letterman performing wait up. They have progressed so much. Still, always great and ALWAYS will be.

  • @imonster242DRohrer44 so true man! I remember seeing them lives when they were still that little band from Newmarket, and now look at them!

  • @CoolCanadianGuy7 same here back in newmarket high

  • I LOVE this band!

  • I can't stop listening to this!

  • gives me chills every time. I adore them

  • 1:44 - 2:10 wayda go greg, rock that jewfro :)

  • thats fucking awesome how the they got there tambourines and played along :D

  • This song is so cool.

  • Why didn't Dave get up and go shake their hands at the end?

  • he was scarred

  • fuck that bass sounds good

  • There from where I live in New-market I saw the drummer in the mall a little while back.

  • @indierocker1000

The lead singer is my neighbour!

  • @KevBlasterful NO WAY ! you are so lucky (:

  • how does he get that bass sound? its like compressed/scooped with some other effect and distortion. anyone know what gear he uses apart from early 80s p bass

  • @Ra9806 It seems he plugs straight into his SVT without effects. He probably turns up the gain a lot to get that drive. And he definitely turns down the bass knob a bit too. Can't tell what cab he's using but its a 4x10 obviously which helps with the high end grind sound

  • @SuperMaximo93 I believe the cab is an older SWR Goliath III.

  • @SuperMaximo93 thanks guys for the info. its a cracking sound

  • @Ra9806 I have an early 80s P bass and that is pretty much how it sounds plugged straight in with the tone control turned all the way up. His sound also has to do with the SVT head and SWR cab. You can get very close with any decent 410 cab and a tube head. Just bring the gain up till you get that natural tube compression and fuzz. No effects necessary.

  • @Ra9806 ah wow man, ur P bass must sound top notch and thanks for that info. would you say its better than some 70s ones? coz people do slate the 80s fenders

  • @Ra9806 I couldn't really say but I've heard that as the pickups get older they tend to get warmer and loose some of that high end. I prefer a brighter crisper sound. Good equipment goes a long way.

  • i love it

    De mis presentaciones favoritas.

  • lol he came in so off key

<3 TPC. they've improved so much too, but lost some of the energy. nonetheless, i love everything they've released all the same

  • Saw letterman in sweden today.

    Damn, I'm hooked for em'!

  • just saw them in stl. love it.

  • it's not ridiculously out of the ordinary for a bassist to be a lead vocalist. Sting from the Police and Lemmy from Motorhead are two well know examples

  • lol im gonna see them live on monday

  • So awesome. But that bass sounds horrid lolol.

  • @Presentboy He put distortion on the bass

  • bland

  • David Monks has a beautiful jaw. just saying.

  • how can the lad sing & simultaneously play the bass?!

  • @nazi713 quite easily ,that's not really the most complex bass line in the world.

  • @nazi713 thin lizzy!!

  • @nazi713 Thats what I find peculiar about this band, the fact that the lead singer is also the bass player!!

  • @5362753 Motorhead?...

  • @nazi713 Same way anyone else can play and sing?

    p.s nice name loser.

  • @nazi713 Check out Rush. Much more complex and he sings and plays the bass.

  • theeey got style aWESOME

  • Woa, the bassist is the lead singer; thats super challenging :o

  • @nazi713 are u a nazi???

  • Wow, really? David couldn't show enough courtesy to just walk 10 feet to shake their hands?

  • @raymondscales he had a boner from how good they were, and he didn't want people to see it.

  • LOLOLOLOL

  • @cagdon not only he had a boner.,,

he jizzed in his pants when he figured out the lead singer/bassists name is the same as his!

  • @cagdon Toronto to be exact

  • @drumboyrossinator Newmarket to be exact....which is near Toronto, but is, in fact, not Toronto.

  • YAY LOVE THEM! oh man i love the lead singer's voice. and i think they're very unique for featuring the bass so prominantly...

  • Listen to Death From Above 1979 and get back to me about prominent bass.

  • GREAT performance, but lol why couldn't David get out of his chair...?

  • what kinda keyboard is that!!

  • It´s an Alesis Micron (:

  • thank you thank you thank you

    i love you ;D

  • @kikin767 fanstic little bugger eh?

  • i've seen them live wice really fun shows much more high energy then this it was a great time saw they before they started doing things like opening for weezer too so it was a nice small venue very good in that type of place

  • I cannot get enough of them!!

  • They're from Newmarket, Ontario.

    And they're a great band.....

    As we can see.

  • lol i live in newmarket i saw the drummer in the upper cannada mall heer

  • I live just outside Newmarket. I saw them play at The White Rabbit and there were only 50 people there, it was awesome.

  • That's sick, man.

  • I think it was pretty cool how the Letterman show band was doing their part. :D

  • i love the bass in this song. its amazing.

  • 80% of these comments are a good argument for a culling of the human race.

  • ur so right

  • amazing.

  • i would like these guys more if they were a bit older and the singer didnt sound like Alex Turner's kid brother.

  • Why does it matter how old they are?

  • They are Canadian, they're from Toronto

  • hey man your actually wrong tokyo police club is from canada

  • Well, with me being English it's hard to tell the difference.

  • @redhanddan from Toronto to be exact

  • @drumboyrossinator Newmarket to be even more exact.

  • @scotttube from the garage in Newmarket, Toronto, Canada, Earth, Milky Way Galaxy, Universe to be even more exact.

  • @redhanddan Except not Toronto. Which was my original point.

  • Woot, I'm going into their high school this year!

  • means absolutely nothing.

  • Yeah, I know. But that school has a reputation for having good music connections and that's just what my band needs.

  • youre a douche

  • ...and what point of that comment made me seem as if I were a douche? My band and I are looking for local success and we're happy to be in a high school like that one. Calm down and grow up.

  • Are you fucking kidding? There are so many good high school bands out there that have futures. All you have to do is look.

  • clearly not your band... LOLOLOLOLOL

    GET MOAR BASS FAG

  • Dude. Do you know how fucking hard it is to find a bassist in an elementary school? Obviously not. Plus we're getting a bassist when we go to the fucking high school, moron.

  • haha bass is sooo easy.... but STILL no one can play it properly. :( its sad.

any edmonton bands need a bassist im game

  • Yeah, I know it's pretty easy to do, it's just that everybody always wants to play guitar, or drums.

  • Yeah, there are a LOT of good bands that are either in high school or just out of it. That's how everyone starts :)

  • haha. i love how the bass sounds. the high level is too high than the low level .love it.

  • your english is bad. roflcopter

  • I like how they show the one guy @ 2:00 is surrounded by so many large keyboards while the actual one being played is the little Micron! GO MICRON! :) Nice track!

  • The bass tone is classic P-Bass meets SVT tone. A little clunky perhaps, but come on its in your face, or on your face, how ever you like it.

  • Great performance! I love the drummer!!!

  • nah, the bass sux. far too...muddy

  • I didn't know taste didn't matter.

  • they look nervous, which is understandable...

  • I wish they'd play in NJ =(

  • damn, i love the bass tone! how often do you hear something really different with the bass?

  • Love! :)

  • bass sounds like crap, drummer is a lol, mad band though.

  • bass sounds good

    i like the tone.

  • he is a great bass player.

not that he plays fast, but he always has a good tone and strumming technique

  • I agree, its not always about speed. its technique

  • i pay bass and yeah your right

  • Awesome.

  • Deutschland !

  • has anyone seen their drum kit it consists of a bass drum, a hi-hat and a snare thats so awesome!

  • how does he get his bass to sound like that?

  • I have the same question and i dont know what does Sting has to do with this question

  • i think he turns the bass and treble down low and he puts he tone high

  • i dont like how it sounds

  • i totally agree. and he is off-key for so much of this song, its ridiculous.

  • the drums are cool

  • does letterman not usually get up and shake the musical guests hands when they finish?

  • Phil Lynott played bass and sang

so does Jamie T, Mark Hoppus, and Joseph Mount from Metronomy occasionally does (trick or treatz)

  • the guy from radio 4 also...

  • Fat Mike from NOFX

  • When I met Dave (the singer), he was wearing that same shirt:) He's very nice. All of them are. He's pleasantly awkward, as well. A true sweetheart.

  • OMG I just started listening to them and I was like, "Huh, I wonder if there's ever been a lead singer who played bass..."

    THEN I SAW THIS!!

pure awesomness. that's what this band is

  • um mark hoppus?

  • all american rejects

  • You've obviously haven't heard of Sting.

  • of course i have, but i'm a drummer not a bassist so i dont know these things

  • Midtown...

  • Lawlz at the mess up at 1:37

    Love Tokyo Police Club.

Had an opportunity to see them live but I foolishly passed it up. 8/

  • mess up?

  • hahaha i heard it!!!

    you're very observant,

but stupid, if you passed up you passed up that chance XD XD XD

  • awesome how everyone was using tambourines with TPC at the end. lovely.

  • why didn't Letterman get up and like shake their hands or anything? i guess a long distance wave and gratitude are just as well

  • the outro was tight.

  • the begging was a little flat but that was the AMAZING!

  • I saw them on the troublemaker tour, what a great band

  • saaaaaaame

    borgata in AC

    they played a bitchin' set

  • yeah Tokyo Police Club!!

  • yeah!

  • yeah!!

  • Man, TPC really love tambourines. Every video I watch, they've got tambourines being used somewhere.

  • yeah lol. same thing with manchester orchestra

  • Im going to see them March 19th!

  • well they were mention twice in rolling stones, so thats a good start...I hope the best for them

  • gotta love that guitar playing i need to get me some sort of delay pedal

  • They did a US tour with Weezer and Angels & Airwaves so their doing pretty good in the US i guess I saw one of the shows they were fiun to watch

  • Saw them on that tour. AMAZING! Hadn't heard of them before seein 'em live...and they had me digging their sound from the beginning. Killer show!

  • FUCKING AWESOME!

  • exactly

  • cool band

  • I LOVE THIS SONG ITS SSEXYY it sounds a little weird but its still great tokyo police club for life and if you no anyone tht can get a word in the dictionary hitt me up i ned to get my fly word out there

  • It's sexy lmao.

  • Are you kidding? This is the way bass should sound, not boring fart tone played with your fingers. That belongs in jazz.

  • but the "crunchy" bass sound is tokyo's thing haha. thats part of their sound

  • ye yo the crunchy bass sounds nice styll

  • love this song, but the bass is way too crunchy for my liking. works good if there's no guitarist but not when there is one.

  • it is good on the recording, he only has the wrong presets. it happens live

  • the drummer is super awesome.

  • The drummer is freakin awsome! Go Lettermen!
