I keep coming back to this video, not only for inspiration but the great memories I have of Rev. Nicks and Jimmy D directing. Thanks for keeping it posted.
This is when the now razed Ford Auditorium was Holy Ghost headquarters at the "O Give Thanks" concerts presented by St. James Baptist Church annually on the Monday before Thanksgiving. We are all the better for having experienced such joy.
This reminds me of old Morning worship services at my church, First church of Delverance. There's nothing that can take place of the traditional church music, it always have a message. I LOVE IT!
Every posting and song St. James does now is a classic. I love the way St. James have church; reminds me of my home church services, Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago, Illinois, Rev. Clay Evans, Founder and Pastor. We churched like St. James every Sunday morning and afternoon. It appears that the day of having church like these two churches are almost gone. We would from service wore out, but a good tired feeling of joy.
This is a congregational song. You all are talking about "This Morning When I Rose" which is a Dorothy Love Coates arrangement. most of Mosie Burks (mississippi mass) songs are old Dorothy Love Coates Songs. EVERYBODY covered EVERYBODY'S stuff back then.
You are so right! Bishop Andre S. Woods is from the school of Nicks! He is by far and away one of the baddest organists I have ever heard! And Detroit has some great ones:Tony Lucas:Rudy Stanfield Jr:Daryl Huston and Brian Watkins are just a few that quickly come to mind. Woods once said he plays in his sleep...and I believe it!
Im completely overwhelmed and haven't even heard the whole clip..Just got back from Detroit from Pastor Charles Craig musical and homegoing service which like having church the way we 'used' to have church At A Homegoing service.

Are they original people who recorded this song?
On a side note Im beginning to think Mississippi Mass Choir has re-recorded every single song from back in the day.
