  • Will there be someone who can listen to this at the same time he's playing with the ''partiture images'' of the video? :O

  • Brilliant, and complex mind...

  • This was once my dream piece too. Now it's my warm up piece, and hopefully it will also be for you someday.

  • I wish I could play this song.. I've been playing piano for five years, and I hope I can play this impromptu next year... o___o

  • @tigerlilja8 It is physically Impossible to recreate this with the voice... oh wait? You meant on the piano? Umm, yeah. We don't play songs on the piano, because the piano isn't singing. Its a piece ;)

  • I might play this some time... and to some people.

  • this is my dream song

  • this song is awesome

  • Eternal Sonata =D

  • it is my dream to play this one day

  • @Number1ChoChangFan Good For you.

  • There's a kid in my class who can play this without even looking at the piano.

He's a damn genius when it comes to music.

  • I'm learnin' this damn song. Who gives a fuck how long it takes, I'm ready. lol

  • This piece is very hard to play ! Not for just a beginner , but for a pro too !

    It´s too beautiful ^^

  • I'm playing this song :)

It's really hard but it's beautiful..

i'm 13 so i find it hard but it might not be hard for others. it's just a very beautiful piece though

  • @anb8205 13 and playing the impromptu, v nice but i expect you to be a very high grade for piano then =p also i would expect them to know that it's a piece and not a song as song's have words in them.

  • @06moca1 Haha yeah sorry.. i mentioned that it was a piece in the last sentence, just accidently called it a song :S

and i guess you could say that.. my parents are both professional pianists and they force me to practice like an hour a day -__-

  • @anb8205

im just a year younger and am playing it too! and i agree, hard yet beautiful :P

  • This Chopin motherfucker was a boss.

  • 1) 16 people should be removed from the face of the Earth

    2) This is anything but easy, if you had any piano knowledge what-so-ever you would know this. syncopation, difficulty of key signature, chopins taste for the beautifully insane is the best way to summarize it.

    Get good please.

  • This song is just as complex as it sounds and looks, the music matches the score perfectly (I would know - I'm learning this piece on my own time).

Unfortunately I haven't figured out youtube's mobile interface so to answer a few questions that I noticed in the comments:

MooKhuTree, this song is a DIPLOMA piano song - past grade 10 RCM and first year teaching/university proffessional course course (my source is the RCM's 2010 Syllibus) most of the stretches are within an octave's range and what

  • Mother of god...

  • Does anyone know the range of this song? Because my range is only one octave. I have small hands and its hard to play songs with more range. I mean reading this peice isn't so bad. I've been playing piano for eight years right now. Oh, and are there any good classical or romantic songs that any of you suggest?

  • @MooKhuTee Check 2:23 second bar, E to Gb i have short fingers also and it's as wide as i can go.

  • I heard this song on Clock Tower 3 years ago and somehow remembered it.

  • @NotTheBoom ah I see your point. Seems like all Chopin made was Etudes, so its kinda tricky to say which piece is easier than others, since their all difficult to play in their own special way. I am trying to learn Etude Op. 10 No. 5 at the moment, so to me this piece would seem a tiny bit easier to me...for now lol

  • Where can I find the music for all of your posts?

  • it's a little different...because there are mire versions of it. this song was never supposed to be published.

  • This doesn't look too difficult. Not impossible, but not simple either. At least it's a tiny bit easier (in my opinion) than Etude Op. 10 No.5 by Chopin.

  • @DeathhsLegacy Sure, it's an Etude so it requires the technique it was designed for to be top-notch, but if the one you're referring to is Black Key (and if memory serves, it is) then no, this piece is more difficult.

  • @DeathhsLegacy I'm not so sure...Timing in this is a pig

  • Very Beautiful!

  • i wanna learn this !! xD ^^

  • The score displayed is not the one that is actually played. The Fontana version (4b) is displayed while the Autograph version (4a) is heard.

  • does the music actually synch to the sound? i can't read such a complex score...

  • @MrBubblegumballs yeah it changes like page turns

  • Comment removed

  • I have heard total 19 mistakes notes that playing, If I am not wrong.

  • @piano916 You are not wrong! I think you are referring to the intentional wronge notes. I'm not used to hearing it played so differently from the actual score. Good technical player but I don't like all the changes to the original notes.

  • I dont like this version.. Rubinstein plays this one too rough for my taste... Bye

  • La partition n'est pas la bonne. Rubinstein joue celle du manuscrit original, pas celle de Fontana.

    A.BERTRAND

  • While Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, were brilliant in their works, Chopin will always be the master of the piano.

  • @thetripledoubleZ without them no Chopin...

  • Chic but, Why the player changed some notes??? i can't understand

  • I don't know how/why is it possible for anyone would not enjoy this Masterpiece!!! I am sorry for those who marked "dislike"....Put on your headphone and listen to the melody of both hands (unbelievably beautiful) - I've listened to more than a hundred versions and this is by far the BEST! NO ONE EVER PLAYED LIKE RUBINSTEIN! Not even Kissin or Yongdi Li.....although I enjoy them both. Perhaps no one would ever catch this level....

  • @Post4JM Yes, thank you, I love Rubinstein’s playing the best too! ^_^ I agree with what you said, as I enjoy both Kissin and Yongdi, but when compared to Rubinstein, it’s like comparing apples and oranges. As AMAZINGLY well as Rubinstein played Chopin’s music, it is almost like Rubinstein was Chopin’s reincarnation! I like to play this piece when I am stressed and need to relax, but I can never do it as brilliantly and flawlessly as Rubinstein did. Truly an inspiration!

  • i can play the first page :3

  • Chopin really wanted me to die because of his wonderful music...

  • can someone tell where to find the version where he actually plays this

  • c'est une très très belle interprétation !!!!

  • What brought me here was the memory of this song being played in the cartoon version of Little Women and someday I hope to play this :')

  • Even the sheet music scares the crap out of me

  • I love it since I heard this from him :'))

  • Wrong note at 4:10 it's supposed to be GAG not EFE ( last row last bar )

  • @butterflydance1 I listened to it, and I noticed that you missed about 45 other places where he plays "wrong notes." Apparently there is another version of this piece; and I guess he's playing that version.

  • @butterflydance1 at the front he played the same note. so i think the player change some notes cannot getting why he did that

  • I am practicing this song now for my music exam at school~~its a bit challenging...xP

  • I love how clean cut this is. His right hand comes through so clearly and it's so even.....I'm learning this piece right now, and am finding it quite difficult to play both hands together, evenly and properly aligned. Back to the metronome!

  • very nice ..

  • Why did he take out two measures at the end? It is perhaps a jump in the recording no doubt being an old one.

  • one of my friends owns this piece.

  • @juliaeszh impossible, it was composed in 1800s means he would be dead.

  • @Jakobsen16 loool not what i meant. shes very good at it. but i see your confusion

  • @juliaeszh I own one of your friends

  • learning this piece in a wrong method, will take more than just one life....

  • Nobody plays Chopin like Rubinstein. Mmmm.

  • beautiful

  • my heart sounds like this..

  • @Zyezion then It is the piano. It sounds choppy in the beginning, I can hear space between each note, even though there are pedal markings and a slur written in. The rest of the song was brilliant, but the beginning was meh.

  • @christophbell2 why dont u just shutup and post up ur own version since its MEH TO YOU

  • @veewees One does not need to demonstrate his ability in performance to rate another's. I have a right to my opinion, and I believe the separation between each note shouldn't be so distinct. Now to judge another's opinion with simple anger and no justification behind it might be a little rude. At least I give reasoning behind my opinion.

  • @christophbell2 dude, his distinctness is the articulation that u dont have

  • @srilanka132435 so true... if i want to hear blurred notes i can listen to myself play it

  • fuuuaar

  • Needs more pedal.

  • @christophbell2 dude this is Rubinstein he plays everything perfectly. He is the master of piano.

  • I'm proud to say I can play the first note of this!

  • hahaha..i play like a hundred times slower than this..=.=

  • So I'm finding this song waaay easier than to play than chopin's prelude no. 15... Is that weird? It's the crazy dynamics and intricate counterpoint that gets me.

  • @BustTheNotes yes its kinda weird

  • The Only Chopin piece i can play^^ besides black keys

  • I love the intensity at 1:00 !

  • i can play the whole thing lol but i'm still an apprentice xD

  • I can play the first 30 seconds! Only Right Hand XD

  • @elbahstardo

    Dude,

    That's FUCKING LOT

  • This music is so simple yet so incredible, happy and sad at the same time. just brillliant *_*

  • @Spilgshaoo this is definitely not simple.

  • @Spilgshaoo "So simple" he says! Sounds to me like this piece of music is the exact opposite of simple. I asked my piano teacher about playing this piece of music - she patted my back and told me, "Not for another few years, dear." And you know how long I've been playing piano? For fourteen years, since I was five (I'm nineteen now).

    So, "simple"? Not so much.

  • @Skunk0nFire That's what I was gonna say, but not so many years in my case... these guys got something wrong :)

Btw, if you like watching pianists, check Jarrod Radnich - Pirates of the Caribbean and stare in awe, just like I did.

    Cheers ! :D

  • @TheNaturalAlpha thank you! :)

  • @Spilgshaoo why exactly is this piece so simple? :P because its a solo? The harmonies are complex

  • @Spilgshaoo Simple? Go ahead and play it for me then say it's simple lol

  • @Spilgshaoo You call that SIMPLE???!!?

  • I like your videos, ClassicalScores.

  • If you are trying to play this piece you may want to listen to:

Annie (9) plays Chopin Fantasie Impromptu, Op. 66

    You will cry. :-D

PS. The recording is mediocre but listen past the noise...

  • Can someone tell me where Rubinstein has played to?

  • The sad truth is, if you want to learn this, you'll have to study with a private teacher for quite a few years to learn the proper technique to learn it. There are no shortcuts for pieces like this. Sure, there are ways you can maybe stretch your hand through exercises (Hanon, and the Czerny Études Op. 299 and 740 are very good for this) and then of course, you have to learn scales and arpeggios, all of them, and learn how to play them fast and clearly. It requires LOTS of time and patience.

  • @mario54671 Yeah it took me a great deal of patience and effort to play this, and even now I still have to polish it a bit.

  • It's thought that Fontana was working from another manuscript which has been lost. Most everyone plays the Fontana version, but Chopin's original is more complex and interesting.

I don't know where anyone would get the idea that this piece was dedicated to Fontana. Actually it was dedicated to Baroness d'Est, and appears to have been composed as a private commission for her. That would explain why Chopin did not have it published.

  • Yundi lì plays this piece very well.

  • Lovely...

  • i can't believe Chopin actually hated this piece... it's absolutely gorgeous.

  • @Eunhyex3 It's actually only speculation that Chopin hated the piece. He simply asked for it not to be publised during his lifetime, and he even revised the piece numerous times so he therefore wasn't unhappy with it. If you look up Paul Barton's video on Fantasie Impromptu, he discusses the piece similarities not to the 3rd mvt of the Moonlight Sonata, but to Moscheles Impromptu in Eb. Chopins probably knew that somebody (Fontana) would publish the piece Posthumously.

  • @losinggrip1993 he also said that it was similar to the first movement of the moonlight sonata.

  • @boristhefox1997 i would like to see you play this without any errors!

  • This is more brutal than dead metal!! I love this song. My brains are floating.

  • Modern pianists play this double speed, I don't know what is going on. They all play it super fast and light with no respect whatsoever. Rubinstein is actually playing it. Good recording.

  • I can play the first 3 seconds of this.

  • @Nothaut Well I can play the first 4 seconds!

  • @Nothaut I think I might be able to do 4. lol

  • @Nothaut I can actually manage the first 10 seconds at this speed, then i slow down (due to amnesia induced by all the black dots on the paper, and from then on, I'm just drooling

  • @Nothaut you are trulyy funnyyy me teww XD

  • @Nothaut My son: First 3 secs only? I can play it easily. It is lame.

  • @ManUtdFan0521 You're awesome then lol

  • @s077924 thank you

  • @FingerMyFinger haha you're a gayer then

  • @ManUtdFan0521 ahahaha please learn to speak dipshit :)

  • @ManUtdFan0521 you're a fagget then lol

  • Comment removed

  • @Nothaut u gave me a reason to practise this symphony

  • @Nothaut I bet you can't play the first 3 seconds right away without some practice :).

  • @Nothaut I can play the first 40 seconds, but I'm too lazy to learn reading sheets in a timely manner xD

  • @Nothaut hahah! hellz yeah! :D still, even that requires the proper touch...like hitting a drum, for example: pro musicians make it sound easy, but it takes a bit of finesse to achieve the perfect volume envelope(attack, sustain, decay, release)...

  • Like Octavarium and other Dream Theater's songs, this song is impossible.

  • just walked into my aunt while she was playing this perfect... I'm jealous :(

  • very beautiful!

  • view my original piano composition by searching "Ballade of the stars". Click on first video. I hope it moves you in some way

  • Such a haunting piece. It's beautiful, brilliant, and sends chills up the spine.

  • vera beautifull

  • slow the tempo im smoking a joint not meth

  • you can find free piano sheet music @ sheetsearch . com

  • @Mariezee44 I can't really see your hands right now - althought Chopins' pieces are playable almost by anyone.

  • you know chopin didnt even like this?

    fact of the day

  • @308813062 for those who didn't get it, i meant I do as in I like it

  • I wanna meat Chopin and Rubinstein in heaven....

  • Errors at 2:04 to 2:06

  • @boristhefox1997 There're no errors.

  • @ImmortalSpecies why you did not just put "there are" fascinates me...

    lol

  • WTF mistakes. But still very good.

  • i realy love chopin , he's music is so emotional ^^ eventough im only 15 , so people don't get my taste of music xD ^^

  • @coolcatqu im 16 and completely agree, most people think classical music is for old folks lol

  • @samsta10000 Yeah that annoys me. >.< I love classical music, its the only music I listen to.

  • I really like how Rubinstein plays. He plays this one so diffrent than other pianists. It sounds transparant, but still so nice, and "full". He plays with so much care.

Nonetheless, I also like how others plays this, but this confirms how diffrent music is to everybody.

THANKS for the this beautifull piece of music, hopefully i'll be able to play this one day myself

  • Do anyone have a link of the music sheet for this song?

  • @jeanANDanna look on imslp.org, they have nearly every score of popular pieces.

  • Rubinstein does not make errors in his recording. He is playing a different (the autograph) version. The music which appears on the video is not the music he is playing. The sheet music is the Fontana version of Op.66, a different version that Fontana heavily edited.. Get the Henle book of Chopin Impromptus. The 2 versions of Fantasie Impromptu are 4a (the one played here by Rubinstein) and 4b (the sheet music in the video.)

  • @stibgo sounds like he did at 39 seconds. I've seen other transcriptions where the note was slurred from the other section, but I have yet to seen that version where he hits the first note twice.

  • I am in the process of learning this piece it has only been 2 days and at first it seemed impossible the 4 over 3 poly rhythm was so annoying. But after practicing for a few hours you notice how beautiful it sounds, like a harp when played fluently with the right hand and you start to understand why Chopin would compose it like that. Truly the work of a genius, learning and playing this piece is an honor. My goal is to finish this by the end of march haha

  • @geeeuknitt7 Almost the end of march are you done with the piece?

  • @Rhymeslayer94 unfortunately no I've been very busy with work and school :( I pretty much mastered the fast part.So far I'm still working on the part in Db major.( which isn't as complicated and technical) This piece is more time consuming than I thought LOL Luckily for me I took my last midterm today so I'll have a lot more time to play

  • @geeeuknitt7 that's awesome. I also want to learn this piece-for an audition of Berklee College of Music in Boston. I know songs such as Moonlight Sonata 1st movement, is the level of difficulty drastically different?

  • @Rhymeslayer94 yes it is lol when is your audition ?

  • @geeeuknitt7 in a year and a half

  • @Rhymeslayer94 ye if you start now you should be able to play it by then moonlight sonata movt 1 is really far from the level it takes to play fantasie impromptu

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, I can't wait for the day I'm good enough to play this! Chopin was a genius who helps give my existence meaning just by my attempting to play his music.

  • @qwertyz15 Play it SLOWLY. As slow as possibly possible, do it right and you'll get it promise you.

  • Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Genius!!

  • Have to say this music really lacks the real feeling

  • @triplelite

,':( Do explain your reasoning for not seeing this piece as having "feeling".

  • @rjdogful Haha don't be too sad. Whilst the piece played here certainly has feeling, but when Yundi Li played it (see youtube vid), it was on a higher level of emotions that this one lacked in.

  • @triplelite

I just saw Yundi Li playing this piece and I totally see where you're coming from now. He seems to look everywhere, but the piano keys he's playing. It was truly enlightening.

  • I wish I could play this!!
