i agree with treid it's not a perfect bill. the house version has more going for it. then senate bill is terrible. hopefully when the bills are combined they will iron out the wrinkles and strengthen the pressure on the private insurance companies (break the monopolies) and include real competition with a public option. this took how many decades to reach this point? we should be thankful for that. it's not perfect but it's the closest we've been to real reform.

It turned out this way because we have congressional representatives who were paid, directly, by the insurance lobby, to do exactly that. It is a clear conflict of interest. This reform bill is HORSESHIT.
It does nothing to cap costs. It mandates people buy insurance for their persons the way one have to for a car. It pushes millions of new people into the hands of private insurers.
After all of the bitching about "rationing" and "death panels", such will still remain - as they always were, in the hands of private insurers.
The Democrats are patting themselves on the back for this pittance, secure in their belief that progressives will not abandon the party.

This bill empowers corporate industry by forcing all people to buy their ridiculous policies. Gov't is just playing the role it always has: to protect the interests of capital. No expansion of gov't here.
A truly socially minded government would have completely abolished the abhorrent health insurance industry and simply expanded medicare to everyone. That would have been more efficient and gave 100% of Americans healthcare at a cheaper rate! This bill SUCKS! Both parties serve only the rich.

i agree with treid it's not a perfect bill. the house version has more going for it. then senate bill is terrible. hopefully when the bills are combined they will iron out the wrinkles and strengthen the pressure on the private insurance companies (break the monopolies) and include real competition with a public option. this took how many decades to reach this point? we should be thankful for that. it's not perfect but it's the closest we've been to real reform.

it's a step in the right direction. now if only they can take out a lot of the private insurance bail outs, mandate and try to blend in the public option from the house bill it won't be such a turd. deficit neutral is a good step already. saving a trillion from the deficit (by 2020) is fantastic! enforcing an exchange is good. abortion, immigrants and death panels are just more republican stalling. i look forward to what this will look like when it hits the president's desk.

well, not completely treid. it does make it illegal to drop coverage and puts restrictions on preexisting conditions. of course the private insurance companies bought some of our representatives to allow them to make us pay even more for that protection, but the exchanges should try to keep them from raising rates to the roof, keeping them... heh... honest? just because there are some REALLY bad parts of the bill, doesn't make it a total waste. we can always improve on it.

it's not a complete waste, treid. at least this administration and congress put its neck out to do something, anything instead of letting insurance companies continue their inhuman practices and crank rates unchallenged. if we don't do something we're going to go bankcrupt not just personally, but as a nation while the insurance companies keep getting fat like ticks.

No, that's just it...we did NOT get what we asked for, or what we wanted. What we got was what the private insurance companies wanted. It turned out this way because we have congressional representatives who were paid, directly, by the insurance lobby, to do exactly that. It is a clear conflict of interest. The end product represents little, if any, of the initial bill of goods Obama sold us during his campaign.
