I cannot express how much I love and appreciate this lesson. I am always up to learn something new and this is exactly what I needed. Btw how do you learn the chord names so effortlessly? Just commitment to memory?
I'm a guitarist but I found this video really interesting. I play bass sometimes (when I get to play my friend's or in a guitar shop) and I wanna try this next time I play :D
Makes me think about getting a bass guitar, hook it up to Echo Gina3G, and play around with it using Rakarrack and Ardour under Ubuntu Studio (do a search for rakarrack and ardour as I can't post links to it). Well, I work with virtual instruments and prefer myself as an independent musician.
Well, I prefer virtual instruments as oppose to physical instruments and work with MIDI (piano roll using my mouse, but may not have control over sound at real time). :)
that funky line at the end... you make a face while playing that always reminds me of a super classy bassist getting a whiff of hot dog shit when you pop those harmonics. not a jive, a compliment of the highest order as you only see that "wtf" funk-face on people who are truly loving what theyre doing.
Another Fun way to get artificial harmonics is to tap the location of the note an octave up, the way he is describing. But, instead of playing the note with your index finger and bridging with the thumb, you can just tap on the nodes to get an aggressive sounding overtone. One bonus to this is that it allows you to play double stop artifical harmonics.
Your videos provide excellent explanation. You really helped me out. I was wondering about the reason why when I play a certain harmonic, it ends up differently.
@DivineWindOfTheSnow So Glad you are happy with this. Nice videos BTW keep it up! Hope to bring you more lessons soon. Let me know what you would like to see. -Brendan (:o)
this is great... i always wanted to be a bassist or a drummer but instead im lead singer and guitarist :\ ive always felt allot more naturally when ive played the bass and with this maybe i can still be a bassist.. ive sent it to my bassist in my band to give him a few tips ahha
