Sales taxes have always been the instrument of tyranny. The Whiskey Rebellion was a push back on Hamilton's tax on whiskey. The American Revolution was sparked by protests against sales taxes on tea etc. From Louis XVI and Czar Nicholas II to modern advocates of the so-called Fair Tax the purpose is to avoid taxing land owners all of whose land values are increased by govt. services but who do not want to pay for the privilege. Big landowners hide behind the pitiful cries of the little guys.

The Transit Authority like a lot of other Gov. Agencies needing trimmed of fat for a long time. This problem was an inherited one and hes just got the ballz to try and do something about it. Its so funny to see when certain liberties get threatened how people get motivated and suddenly they want to get involved in the political process.

All of the neighboring counties are being developed and the cost is going up. You have more choices here and get your money's worth compared to the neighboring counties with less stuff. So who is going to pay for the Port Authority overspending anyway? I have not seen a republican with a good recovery plan yet.

Pittsburgh/Allegheny county was one of the few metropolitan areas in the country without a drink tax. The port authority was mismanaged for years and certainly other actions need to be taken with concessions on their part, but this tax is really not that big of a deal. It hasn't hurt business anhywhere it has been implimented. Have one fewer drink or drink one at home and you've covered the tax. Whatever you do, please just stop whining about it.
