wrestling is a sport, just like Judo, swimming, football etc. except that it is applicable to fighting.

some of the skills can be applied to MMA like TD but wrestling usually doesnt finishes. Thats why pure wrestling wont go far in MMA. however, u cant deny how useful is wrestling in MMA. If Maia had great wrestling, he probably've have beaten Silva. Silva's TDD is an aspect of wrestling too. Don't forget that edgar started of as a wrestler too.

Well remember that you lose if both of your shoulders touch the mat for a second in wrestling. So without the chokes and cranks allowed, bridging is a good way to keep your shoulders off the mat when someone is on top trying to pin you. It does take some strength and conditioning of the neck before being able to bridge in a match without hurting yourself though.
