This was truly one of the greatest tragic stories I have ever experienced, the great love lost. I was balling my eyes out, and still do when I see this scene. Gary Oldman made me love him just as much.
I wrote a book called "Beethoven's Immortal" about who the "Immortal Beloved" really is. My take on it is that the reason nobody was ever able to find out about who she was is because she is from the future. It is a time travel story and available at Synergebooks and Amazon Kindle.
It was my greatest wish to visit Beethoven's grave outside of Vienna. This summer, my husband and I, plus my daughter went to Vienna. We found his grave just like in this movie! I love this movie and this ending, is, my all time favorite! For 16 years it built me up and made me strong... Always my beloved!
The scene that kills me is when he looks up from the piano and watches her working on the couch. He looks at her with such love, such peace. And she just feels his gaze. An amazing scene. Just wonderful.
@Agomongo1235 Yes! That is it. The Emperor Concerto. A wonderful masterpiece of human artistic creation. Thank you for letting me know, and all honor to God for allowing us to experience the emotion and beauty of Beethoven's work.
@MelissaTicky This film is an entirely fictional story. I hate to be a bummer, believe me, when I found out it wasn't true I was bummed. By the way, I'm only assuming you didn't already know, if you did, sorry.
@wasteland70 well the letter was real, the rest is indeed speculations.
I am not bummed, i just happen to enjoy the music and the letter was beautiful. We all know that he was torchered inside by something and that something could possibly have been love.
@MelissaTicky The letter is indeed real and a beautiful letter it is. I love the film, too. The music is wonderful and Oldman just hits it out of the park. There's a book called "Love Letters of Great Men" and this letter is included in it. I love the scene when he gets to the hotel and she's gone. I love when he trashes the room. It's just so powerful and then the shot of him sitting on the edge of the bed, staring out into the void. Great Stuff. I agree he was tortured by something.
ive lived in vienna for 5 months and i have to say living there makes you want to compose a music. i have also been close to beethoven's grave and many more great men
Oh wow, i remember seeing that in theaters and just balling when she turned to Schindler and said "what letter" oh wow i just was in tears.
I felt so silly cryint for about 10 minutes but when i got up from my seat i saw over half the woman there just covered in splotchy mascara and the men all red in the eyes.
This is such a moving portrayal of Beethoven. I very much love this film.
Gary Oldman was the perfect fit to play Beethoven.
@shitonMOHAMMAD REALLY! I think he would have been a great choice, i really admire his acting. I am still pleased though that they went with Gary Oldman.
This is still one of the few movies that makes me cry at the end. Even watching it in this short clip, I have tears running down my face. Makes me think of my long lost Immortal Beloved ...
@nazeera1948 One of the reasons why people have pretty much stopped wiritng love-letters like this, is because people think it's old and cliché :/ romaticism and chivalry is dead pretty much, even though some romanticist remains, lonley and misunderstood by this post-modernist society where every action like this is questioned with criticism...

Beautiful words... oh Beethoven :)
His music is the perfect film score, I can't believe how well it fits to this story.

to conzales94: the piece is called Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat Major, Op. 73 "Emperor" - it's about 7 and a half minutes down the song.
to 04AWP81: this is Czech subtitles version. I should have upload it without it but was too lazy to redo it.

Are the subtitles Czech or Slovak?

@TK2008BEST I know... when ever i see the woman tuck the letter under the petit four i just want to smack her up the head.
I love this movie but it makes me doubt any hotel concierge...
I wonder though, if they had been together if his music would have been something different?

@Tinymoezzy
I think that they picked Oldman because of two reasons (based on what I remember of the interview)
1) because Oldman had more "range" of eccentricity and emotions
2) because of his piano skills
