Is the ticking noise I hear in my external hard disk because of the arm moving, or is it more sinister?

  • The arm is mooving

  • that is the sound of the arm moving and as the magnetic sectors are being read it causes a slight tick, all normal

  • touch it! :)

  • its crazy how sudden the arm moves

  • What brand was it?

  • I wanna say Hitachi, but it could have been an xbox drive. Can't remember.

  • Been 11 months since I commented on this vid. Now that I listen to it again it spins up like an old Seagate and the seek test sounds like the one from an old WD Caviar drive.

  • @fostytou xbox drives are no different, just standard western digital hard drives
