@ntv7 it's already been field tested and approved. noise doesn't matter, this isn't intended for use with foot soldiers who are being quiet. the SMSS is just a means of transportation for their things when they're traveling from point to point. it can be left behind when they get close to the mission area should it require stealth. plus, we're not the ones who need to be quiet on patrol, the insurgents are.
@10530309 it's probably lightly armored, but it would absorb most of the force from any small explosives. yes if it was blown up theyd lose their stuff, but any blast strong enough to do that would kill them too.
since your troops shouldnt be traveling anywhere where there are IEDs, they wouldn't even be walking in that dangerous of an area. they wouldn't send it anywhere they wouldn't send a soldier; they would take the necessary precautions to make sure the men and machines are okay.
@WakeUpWorldTV and risk people damaging them? i dont think so. they cost a pretty penny and also they have a limited range. not to mention dumping all our money and resources into helping the less fortunate is NOT america's job.
sounds very cool but, couldn't you just keep shooting the sensors at the top and eventually you'd destroy them rendering the whole thing unable to move autonomously, making it stall for a bit until the Soldier controlling it switches to manual control, I can see that being a big flaw, and yes IED's would be a concern still, but I don't imagine this would get used in heavily populated areas as much. it looks like it's intended more for missions off road.
@PriestOfTyr Dude, thats not the point. This isn't an armored fighting vehicle, its more of a jeep (a very cool jeep at that). You can load it down with fuckloads of water, ammo and fuel, not to mention 20 foot long folding ISO containers, which would be used to replace non weather/climate proofed, non bullet proofed tents. Issued one per platoon, these SMSS' could be a very, very significant asset to the fighting man.
@cheesemuffinality Hey, thanks. I figure vehicles of this sort ought to be common sense, after all, the brits used their universal carrier in the exact same way back 70 odd years ago. People complain that they can't carry a full sqaud of men, but what they forget is that this IS NOT AN APC. lol. Its a cargo carrier, meant to accompany light (I.E, foot propelled) infantry.
But if the designers fail to reasonably answer their unreasonable questions, then in their convoluted minds, its a failure.
3) They'd be targeting the soldiers, not the vehicle. The vehicle isn't the one posing a threat. Also, the money put into training soldiers is usually more than the vehicle is even worth, which makes them the important target. Vehicles are just expendable but people are not.
only the IED can use it fully. LOL. very expensive thing to be blown by an IED. when can you create a thing that will be invulnerable to IED? epic fail.
@rieli2boni2 soldiers are more expensive. since the troops shouldnt be traveling anywhere where there are IEDs, they wouldn't even be walking in that dangerous of an area. if there WERE IEDs, they wouldn't send it anywhere they wouldn't send a soldier; they would take the necessary precautions to make sure the men and machines are okay.
Where would u walk to set up base camp if not in a combat battlefield. If this was to be used in unhostile area why not just load the HMMWV down and drive. I still dont get it. Dont get me wrong its a great piece of engineering, but hard to place its use based on its price tag.
@corey3775 for hostile areas supporting troops and for automated supply lines away from fight i.e army dont need to pay to use soldiers...cost cutting maybe?
@corey3775 it has more trunk space than a HMMWV (you can fit way more stuff on it than you can in a HMMWV), and also 20 foot long folding ISO containers, which would be used to replace non weather/climate proofed, non bullet proofed tents.
@corey3775 Just letting you guys know, that the U.S military is always 1 step ahead of the enemy. They would never put that machine in a heavy combat zone. They would probably only send it out on missions that require troops to walk very long distances to set up a base camp or something. And Im pretty sure that the tech held inside of that thing is covered with some good armor. And if it does break, they'll either fix it or send em a new one.
looks brilliant! It'll help a lot of men on the ground. A nice thing would have been to have a key remote that would be attached to a soldier, working as a tracer which the mule would follow, enabling the soldier to focus on the mission in a hot zone instead of a controller. Both options should be available though.
abandon all your hope will not introduce to army to near feature. Noise very critical issue when you patrolling..

What if the vehicle is stroke by some bombs? So the whole squad will lose their equipments?

Why not just stick some guns on top and get rid of those soldiers it is folowing.

@manupai that's not what it was built for. there are already autonomous/RC attack robots.

@PriestOfTyr 1) Terrorists don't know that
2) Terrorists can't shoot that well

Target this stuffwith 20$ RPG, and soldiers have to carry their stuff again (if there is any left after explosion).

@ergiel, agreed, now the soldiers are stuck in the desert with no equipment, water and only the rounds carried on them. Exspensive FAIL
