Not only did ff xii have a more mature and, frankly, cohesive story than most of the previous installments (dialogue is better than any previous game) but it also had my favourite battle system in the whole franchise. lots of fun and a massive world to explore. great graphics, great story, great characters (vaan and penelo were a little bland I admit, but they weren't really the main characters, you basically got to choose your protagonist, mine was Basch). And lastly a fantastic soundtrack.

I am also a hardcore FF fan, played the first one when I was a kid. I can honestly say 12 is my favorite. Perhaps the story wasn't the best and the character development could have been a lot better, but I can't name any other game where I can play for over 300 hours and not have mastered it. Took me 2 and a half years to get the Order of Ambrosia rank.

This game was where FF had its downfall, If you fucking idiots are really trying to say that FF12 was better than 7, 8, 9, and 10 you honestly dont have a right to an opinion. The characters all fucking blow and the storyline was absolutely terrible, half of it didnt even make sense. This game is so terrible. FF10 was the last perfected FF, FF13 is a great game but 10 and the rest are still better. Take this from a hardcore FF fan.

Not that there's anything wrong, it's an excellent game, as with all final fantasy games, but the difference between this game and the other final fantasys is that this story line can actually happen in real life. It deals with politics, and the interactions between two warring nations. Also, the return of Gilgamesh is a great addition also.

@randomwordsable1 Well what I liked was the kind of war between Archadia and Rozaria (I think). I liked the changing of regions to different empires and I would've liked more of a focus on that. I know it deviates away from the usual FF but I liked the idea of the war with Dalmasca in the crossfire. I also would've liked being able to control an airship and being able to fight in an air battle, as well as the typical individual battles.
Since when was politics a good idea in games? Tactics nuff said. It's Ivalice, so of course it will be the politicians whom are evil. Besides, it's way better than some tree made out of monsters(Exdeath) or a mind-controlled alien (Golbez). I've played almost the entire series and FF12 is my fave thus far. Vann and Penelo should have been removed, yeah that i agree. But the others weren't tht bad. The judges in particular were my favourite antagonists of all time.

Well, mostly because they were both made to appeal to the younger audiences. Originally, it was Basch who was supposed to be the protagonist. And since I really liked Basch's storyline, I thought it should have been him who got the main attention, not Vaan.

@SnOwMaNSn1PeR Well yeah it is about getting away from reality, but in FFX there's a strong theme of religious corruption which could be referring to the corruption in the Christian Churches. It was great how they showed how the temples were highly regarded, eg Wakka. :L What I liked was the way Tidus saw holes in the religion and brought an end to endless cycle.

Religious corruption simply makes for a lot of interesting plot and story possibilities. A lot of other games have done that as well. Just because it has some level of similarity to our own world events, doesn't mean they are a referrence to it. I wouldn't read too much in it outside the game's context. It did make for an awesome story. Loved it ^^

The plot and characters mesh really well. FFVII would be another one too. This game is great over-all, but indefinately has some kinks. lol

The soundtrack from this game is SOOOO much like Final Fantasy: Tactics, and I love it! The two games even have the same sound quality, which is rare.
Few people saying that don't like XII's soundtrack because it was too different/wasn't as good. I think this soundtrack is written a lot more like a movie soundtrack whereas Uematsu had absolutely no boundaries. One song could be bitching heavy metal, the next a 15 minute orchestral suite. I like this games soundtrack, but I agree that Uematsu's work on earlier FF's was more memorable.

If they ported this to the PSP, I bet it'd make a lot of money. More than the DS one did. o: DS one was not so good imo. ^^;

the strategy guide helps ALOT with this game, espescially the pharos third ascent. also showed me everyone's unarmed stats so I know what weapon they'll use best. like penelo has the highest vitality, so she's good with axes and hammers

@AlphaOrigin Not really... Celes is only the "main character" for a small portion of the second half of the game. After that, there's really no main character, and just about everyone gets their own side story.
