  • tigerone1970... Why is Cape Town the best run city in SA ? White and Black who live here will all agree, we dont want the ANC here because the DA runs this city. You can keep your gauteng, with all its money, it will never run as well as CT

  • MetYsJa,

Why is Cape Town and it's Mixed Race population better run than the Boer Republics where whites rule the roots and blacks have virtually no rights and own no property?

  • dude you need to get your facts straight, Cape Town is run by the DA which has primarily white and mixed race supporters and its mayor is white (Helen Zille) who won the mayor of the WORLD award.

  • In this video at 3:17 and again at 3:41, Zuma says that South Africa is a transparent country. If this is the case, why do they try to suppress the release of crime stats? We also hear more and more often how sensational newsworthy material cannot be released, due to its threat to national security. It smacks of cover-ups!

  • This is hysterical - blob speak blob speak blob speak....

  • AHAHAHAHAHHAA extraordinary transparent country.

  • He's a disgrace.

  • Comment removed

  • Listening to this makes me ashamed to be South African! What a disgrace!

  • Approximately 45 murders are committed each day in the U.S.

  • OMG !!! I disgusts me how america always is putting africa as a scapegoat!! Arms dealings... how dare you point fingers at South africa when AMERICA and the UK are responsible for the majority of arms dealings in the WORLD!

Tell me americans... what does an Iraqi uniform look like?

  • the armsdeal gave billions of rands in ANC bankaccounts. when they started there rule, they said no new weapons. are we at war, with who? did the amarican presadent recieved kickbacks from the war in Araq? we got weapons we caanot use, with a armay that does not exists

  • This is another blindfolded pro-ICJ President supporting the arrest of Sudan's President and going against African Union's decion. This guy is terribly an Idiot.

  • that is the britishe system of interviewing

  • Maybe she is, but he has not answered a single question. He has somehow managed to string words together that he has heard before and thinks they make sense. She was trying to get him to answer simple questions which he does not do.

Amanpour: What are you going to about unemployment?

    JZ: Blame the financial KRRRAaanch

This guy is an absolute joke!

  • In South Africa there is no democracy. It is rule by the majority. It's "we got over 50% of the vote, so you shut up and do as you're told". What Mandela had was a democracy. What be have now is a corrupt one party state.

  • Which is why I would like to see a resurgence of local government, instead this emphasis on national politics.

If the mines were heavily taxed, and 50% of national revenues would be paid out directly to local goverment, you could provide basic services where people live, have greater oversight on how money is spent, and even have participatory budgeting, so people have a direct say in local projects.

  • And that is exactly what the government isn't doing. They're centralising power more an more. They can't handle any opposition - look at the dodge land deal they did in the Cape (transfering huge tracts of land to national government) just before they lost power there.

SA is not a democracy - it is a one party state where the ruling party treats any opposition as an act of treason. It is not a democracy, it is 'Black Majority Rule'.

  • " It is not a democracy, it is 'Black Majority Rule'. "

But that is saying that there is no opposition within the 90% of the population that is Black. The question is - why not? And even more to the point, opposition based on what?

If the majority of the population support the ANC's policies and keep voting for them, that is democracy. It is only not democracy when the views of most people or a majority are not represented in government.

  • My problem is when 'opposition' comes from the likes of the DA.

The majority of the people of South Africa need redress for the losses they suffered under apartheid. All people need access to basic services - education, healthcare, utilities, security.

Any party that does that should be in power and I'm sure has the backing of the majority of the population.

Maybe it is not the ANC that is the problem, but the opposition itself - DA, IFP, etc.

  • The mines in South Africa are still in private hands, despite the promises and consensus of the Freedom Charter. Why would the mines of the people of South Africa be in private hands?

And, the land needs to return to the people, or there will be no social stability.

Those are two issues the ANC has not delivered on. However, which opposition party will do that?

  • "If the majority of the population support the ANC's policies and keep voting for them.." Um, no!!

Remember the "swart gevaar"? Today we have the "wit gevaar". Many blacks are afraid of anyone but a black person running the country. Secondly, there is a sense among blacks that they owe their vote to the ANC

The opposition's capabilities are not the problem - look how the Cape is doing. The problem is that the DA is seen as a white party (even though 50% of it's support base is black)

  • The poor are pissed of with the ANC. They break promises time after time. They are inept. Yet the new black masters are allowed to live it up - stealing money from the people and abusing thier power!

Socialising the mines is a stupid idea. Since when has socialising anything made it more efficient? You socialise the mines and they will close down quicker than you can say "Malema's a moron". They we'll have a crippled economy and angry, unemployed mineworkers. Not such a good plan me thinks.

  • Since when has the mines being in private hands maximized benefit to the country or economy?

The mines don't exist to create jobs, they exist to capitalize the rest of the economy, so it can diversify into agriculture, manufacturing and infrastructure.

The idea that gold mines exist to create jobs is absurd.

And what makes you think that government can run basic businesses like that? Ever heard of SAUDI-ARAMCO? Or China?

  • "Since when has the mines being in private hands maximized benefit to the country or economy?" Since always!

The mining co buys the mineral rights from the gov. The gov gets money for nothing,&the co has to get the minerals out of the ground, creatin jobs in the process. Socialisin the mines would require huge financial input from the tax-payer.&trust me, socialised mines would be less efficient. I know the SA gov can't run a basic business. Just look at our parastatals. Ever heard of Eskom?

  • tigerone1970: You are a racist and mega idiot. You fit the profile of all African dictators such as Amin and Mugabe who ruined their countries by chasing white people away. If it was not for white people this country would still be a jungle.

  • Lau3777,

Ja mun I AM a racist.

You should familiarize yourself with African civilisation before colonialism. (And preferrably before the Transatlantic slave trade.)

You are a typically self-deluded rhodie-brit-boer who whose personal identity is wedded to the notion that all things good come from the white man.

And I prefer 'a jungle' over apartheid.

And you should acquaint yourself with the travel writing of for instance Heinrich Barth.
