Lived in Cabrini through elementary years and left in 72. Lot of fun memories for a place that inspired my success in life. Retired at 54 with a million dollar portfolio. What an experience to grow up so close to downtown and miracle mile and Lincoln Park.
Sigh.... Chicago. The black, gang-infested, generational-welfare nightmare town that birthed the Marxist Demon know as "Obama." This is where it all started. This is where the end of America was created. On these very streets, a vile, America-hating, White-resenting Marxist Demon named "Obama" honed his craft of hatred, resentment, rage and envy before unleasing it on the wonderful nation that defeated both Nazism and the Empire of Japan. Now, America is dying because of "Obama."
Mixed income housing NEVER, NEVER, NEVER works it's proven time & again. Affluent people are NEVER going to spend money to live next to someone on section 8 or a black neighborhood. This is just a waste of money. Every time you have a predominantly black area, it is crime ridden and that is a fact. Call it racist, bigoted, what ever. It is the truth.
@free2drm It can work if they are selective about who they allow to live there. There are good people residing in public housing, who want a better life for themselves and their families. The common misconception is that all residents of public housing don't want more for themselves!
Getting rid of the old Cabrini-Green to replace it with this is such a laughable joke. Cabrini-green is the cancer-infested prostate of Chicago. Now, in addition to millions of tax dollars wasted, the prostate has been cut open and the cancer has cells have now been spread all over the city to replicate more. It was best for it to be in one centralized location....Cabrini-Green. No affluent person want to live next door to sec. 8 hood rats.
Joe and Jeremy, you have virtually no understanding of this area. I live on one of the small side streets you show in your "drive by," and in 5 years I've only had positive experiences with the people who live here. People are responsive, respectful, and caring just as anywhere. You show a part of Orleans and Oak (4:10 and following) and you talk about "wishful thinking." Well, you need to get a grip on what truly transpires here with the mix, the churches, the businesses, the parks, etc.
@jdkuijper Joe and Jeremy's comments were directed at the CHA's overly-hyped description, if you follow on in the video. I didn't hear them say anything negative about the area.
@YoChicago1 Um, yeah, your company perpetuates racist misunderstandings about community and true values of properties by conveying their misinformed "some say ..." (rumored) 'facts' about the area. No sense of what's valued in Chicago. Yo Chicago, yo ignorance!
@YoChicago1 Your comments would be worth a rebuttal if anyone, ever, really looked to "Yo Chicago," but it's evident that no one really gives two bits about what this bogus content provider has to say. I'm not referring to "the many videos on [your] channel," but nice attempt to skirt the issue. You can laugh if you want, but the fact is that your content provider's point of view is disgustingly insensitive and pretty much a racist rant. Enough said.
@jdkuijper There's no core to address. Only an off-the-wall comment.
I have no taste for addressing someone who calls "racist" without knowing who or what he's talking about. If oly you knew how wrong you are - but then, you really don't care about facts, do you?
@rodgermourtagh There's ignorance in every race. By the way it's Cabrini Green, nobody knows where the hell "green cabrini" is. For someone that can sit and call "some" blacks monkeys you have alot of blacks on your page. Don't let a video make your mind up. There was alot of good folks there to offset the bad.
If I have to be careful about driving through Cabrini Green just to get to my APT why would I want to live there. it may be a lot better but it is still bad.
i think iot should just be condos so it wont get bad like it did years ago and its he gold coast its the top 3 neigborhood in america and i wuld like to keep it that way
The new condos look nice, but who in their right mind is going to seriously buy in that hell hole area. The sh&theads are still going to be sh&theads. The people who develop these new projects NEVER live anywhere near ghetto folk, so they can care less about anything but the money in your wallet. Then you'll get robbed again on the streets.
Sigh. You're obviously completely clueless about the neighborhood. Spend some time there and get a grip on it. The area is radically changed over the past half dozen years.
I both lived and officed within blocks of there years ago when the area was a lot worse, and am in the area frequently. I have an advantage in understanding this area that you don't - I lack a racist bias toward the area.
Spare me the racism card. It's about behavior and safety, period! Most folks will not take any chances in an area that has had a violent history, especially those raising children.
sounds like a good idea , but we know some of the people on some type of goverment housing assistance are still going to be homeless after all this construction finishes
