HP. Welcome to corporate america. It has nothing to do with tech. It all has to do with dollars. They enjoy outsourcing labor to reap slave labor in 3rd world countries.
I rarely run linux, but I still can't miss las. I guess I'm always hoping to hear them talk about the perfect linux distro for me. I haven't found it yet, but maybe one of these days. I am running ubuntu on my old laptop, but that's as far as it goes for me.
Just in regards to magazines, it's the price for lack of content that kill it. Remember back in the 90's when Wizard was hundreds of pages for like $3.50-$4? These days they are like ~50 pages for $5.99, twice the price and a third of the content. I'd even accept "old" content that is old by the time it's printed if I didn't pay almost ten dollars for a 50 page mag that has ad's in it as well.
Here's the problem with The Linux Journal going to print: NO ONE WILL PAY FOR THAT KIND OF SUBSCRIPTION. The fact that you're paying to have someone email you files just feels wrong. Frankly, I think that they're going to lose money out of this, since there's no DRM on the PDFs that they sell. They're going to be pirated left and right, and they're going to get killed.
Happy Birthday Linux. Add another candle for a recently-converted user like me :D
Chill Brian, I know the feeling of a corporation directly affecting you and your work, profession, etc with a totally dick move. I empathize with you mate.
Forking android and getting it to run some nice linux apps seems like the best solution. Fact is I need skype and as much as a hildon+debian distro appeals to me unless i can run a skype chat room its not what i can use on my phone. If you could copy the maemo skype compatibility from maemo that would do but it'll be closed source and a legal problem. There is, i believe, a java ME skype that maybe in beta. Not ideal but might be good enough.
Do it..we need a Linux OS on the phone.
