Thrash Metal was allways their goal and they call themselves one of the Big Four. Big Four of what? Of Thrash Metal. Death Magnetic is certainly not Thrash Metal. Metallica has leaved it's roots and have turned to Heavy Metal, which for me is a desgrace. Kill 'Em All is definitly Thrash, what Metallica wanted. Ergo, better. Well, it also deppends on one's taste.

Well, what you said isn't true in itself, but you're wrong on both counts.

Death Magnetic is half thrash half heavy. But the song writing is infinitely better than Kill Em All. And it doesn't have KEA's terrible lyrics.

As I saied, it's all about taste and if you like the way of writting of the New Metallica while I preffer the Old Skool Metallica it's fine. I have to say that the tracks of KEA are simple Thrash riffs and in DM are much complex but still not good for me. Back in the 80' Metallica was meaner and more evil... I think that that's the thing that the New Metallica lacks. Thanks, dude, you made me realize it.

Surely not, surely 'load' was their poorest album. St Anger had some decent riffs and I'd argue that there is enough to rework a number of the songs, the worst part of it was the mixing, just appalling work from Rock. The DVD rehearsals with Trujillo are not that bad.

Any hardcore metallica fan would agree the only good albums they really put out were in the 80's. Yes st anger failed at life but DM didn't do much better. The ONLY things better with Death Magnetic were A) no more trash cans B) better riffs. The lyrics suck balls.

@ilove2shredtheRGZ No, St. Anger wasn't their best album, in fact it wasn't even close, but it had to be made. Hetfield had to write those lyrics to get the demons out of his system. I have St. Anger and because I have also suffered from depression, the lyrics spoke to me and made me realize that I wasn't the only person going through that sort of shit. If St. Anger makes Metallica that much better in the long run, then so be it.

I look at it as an unpolished metallica. the repressed raw anger and feelings of hetfield made that album a really deeply emotional one. You have to listen to it for a couple of years to realize how bad ass it actually is. At first, I thought it sucked too but now I always get goose bumps when I listen to it.

Ok, just to give everyone some clarity on Lars' drum kit "sound" being wrong really has nothing to do with his drums as a whole at all. He uses amazing drums. Starclassic Maple...top of the line drums. The sound you're referring to is the snare drum and the loud pingy "trash can" sound is is snare drum. The actual snare is in the off position so it takes the nice tight crack that you're used to hearing and you get a very loud ping sound. Tool does it, other bands do it as well...just not as much

Lars' St Anger drumkit sounds wrong, and his playing style has gone very uncomplicated and sloppy since Metallica's "downfall" called the Black Album (if the poor bloke was ever a good drummer). If you think otherwise, prove me wrong.

This is one of my favorite songs in the world, and I'm pretty disappointed at how much more I like it on the album. It just feels like they make too many sacrifices to play as fast as they can or whatever. The changes aren't as distinct, which, to me weakens the impact of the faster parts because there's less contract. Plus James sounds way less distinct and imposing vocally. Yes, I know they played it like that back in the 80's too, and I didn't like it then either. Still a dope song.

No, One is played in a fine tempo but this song sounds much more intense when they play it faster then it was recorded on the album.
