I don't see how Christians can object to this song. It matches the sort of religious training that I had as a kid: toe the line or God will do all sorts of awful things to you. The Lord of the Rings was written for entertainment purposes, whereas the bible was meant to give moral truth. Some of the characters in the Bible actually existed (Jesus-12 apostles, etc), but whether they had divine connection is subjective. Gandalf, etc never existed. Also, there really isn't a whole lot of room for opinion with the bible. Either you agree or you don't.

I don't see how Christians can object to this song. It matches the sort of religious training that I had as a kid: toe the line or God will do all sorts of awful things to you. The profanity of the song simply focuses attention on the real Christian message: if you're a believer this should make you aware of what an awful god you believe in. I eventually abandoned Christianity myself because I could no longer believe in such a god.

@SenecatheDuck That is a very Puritan form of view. Which is a very strict form of christianity. Myself, I take a step back and take religion for what it is- a guideline. Whether the main constituent characters existed or not, is irrelevant. If they were, then they would much rather you be a good person than worship them, assuming they were legitimate in their causes.

@PaulThePretentious See, that is where you are wrong. They were written for 2 completely different reasons. The Lord of the Rings was written for entertainment purposes, whereas the bible was meant to give moral truth. Some of the characters in the Bible actually existed (Jesus-12 apostles, etc), but whether they had divine connection is subjective. Gandalf, etc never existed. Also, there really isn't a whole lot of room for opinion with the bible. Either you agree or you don't.

The only real opinions that you can make are whether the stories are real and if they are interesting or not and both of those are subject to the opinions of individuals. The moral truth is inexorable, assuming one has a conscience. This all relates back to how literally the actual written word is taken.
