Ronan hi again..i would like to ask you what monitor you would choose for a home studio(mostly for mix)?i see you have event and sonodynes if i m right...important for me is the wide stereo image and instrument separation because i write also classic music..(by the way i bought ksm 32 excellent mike thanks for the advise)
I have a question about the electrics of dynamic microphones. I'm not a tech but as I understand it, a dynamic microphone generates and electric current as the sound waves vibrate a diaphragm between a permanent magnet. If this is correct my question is how much of a current is produced, is it a measurable amount?
I, myself use an Audix i5, the BEST 100$ ive ever spent! i use it for my snare, miking guitar cabs, and EVEN vocals - ive tried other mics for vocals, and even spent 500 on a large diaphragm mic, and ended up not using it
This is very helpful. Thanks a million Ronan. I always knew that dynamic mic are good for recording too. I love the way you mention M.J name, very funny.lol.
Thank you Ronan; I sincerely appreciate that you helped to finally clear up that dynamic mic stigma, now I have a place to send apprehensive musicians. Fantastic work!
I was told by my Nashville buddy that sm 57 & sm 58 are common was well. Very helpful for us budget home recorders. Great video Ronan. BTW, what is the difference with the beta versions?
@JayStudioProductions Thanks for the kind words Jay. I am pretty sure (but will not swear on this) that the beta series has a tigher polar pattern and slightly brighter voicing. In shoot outs I have always like the regular versions better so I do not spend much time with the Betas

Hi Ronan i would like to do a silly question ..from your experience the bassy voise tend to like more dynamic mics from an alto voice or not?
anatol1204 6 months ago
@anatol1204 Often with bassy voices I will try a brighter condenser to help add a little bit of articulation to the voice.

I have tested and purchased several condenser microphones and none is so quiet, balanced, fat and colorful as my RE20

@ghaibboy Yes, Those are the old Event 20/20bas monitors. I love them and have been using them for years for most of my mixing.

Wow, I've always heard from Bruce that the U47 was used for Lead Vocals on the M.J. stuff. Interesting!

Ronan, do you like the RE20 for vox? I've been thinking about getting that mic as a good all-arounder and was wondering what you thought.
jaycroft97 1 year ago
@jaycroft97 I do not use them that often but the RE20 can very very cool for many vocalists. Its also very cool for bass amps, kick drums and horns.
