Who needs Generation Y's Autotune and Simon Cowell American Idol in Global Music Industry when all we need is Maybelline with many people's Generation like Chuck Berry's Vocals.
Nobody can argue that Chuck invented rock and roll but he did do a lot to put it in it's present form with his unique guitar licks his song writing and lyrics with a broad appeal across the racial divide and he also was an ultimate performer I don't think he had the best voice but he had a good one he is the whole package vaya con Dios Chuck
@palmer8112 Chuck Berry was the first to take the electric guitar as a lead instrument in Rock'n'Roll. He was also the first to bring the rebellious spirit of Rock'n'Roll into the lyrics.
@Uppsa1 I can think of several rebellious songs as early as Chuck Berry. He recorded his first song in 1955: Hot Rod Race was release in 1951; Hot Rod Lincoln 1955 and Mother In-Law by Ernie K Doe 1955. Then there was Black Denim Trousers by the Cheers - 1955.
You need to understand that he IS one of the pioneers, just becasue elis was white and more ppl listened to his songs dosent mean he made the rock n roll.
Chuck berry is an insparation for elis no doubt in that.
@yoavXD No one said Elvis made rock N roll. They said he was King and he was. Yes Chuck Berry was a pioneer. So was Elvis. Chuck brought a lot to rock. So fdid Elvis. You are the one who refuses to acknowledge that they BOTH were great. Elvis signed with Sun Records in Aug of 53. Berry's first hit, Maybelline, was released May of 55. Elvis' main influences were gospel and other Sun records rockabilly artists like Carl Perkins.
Chuck was motovatin' over the hill in Chitown yesterday [1-1-11] and got sick on stage......Chuck hang in there, you are 84 and have left all the rockabilly cats in the dust...only Jerry Lee and Little Richard are left with you.......out last them you are the King Cat of Rockinroll.
When Charles Berry and Elvis, and Lil' Richard were kids, my uncle Temothees played jooking blues in Greenwood and in Money Mississippi where Emmett Till got castrated by the Klan. i, 4, 5 upbeat blues with that rocking bass had been around before they were all born. It came from what they called lowdown jitterbug black folks were boogie woogiying too in the jook joints.
hes the first rock n roll artist no joke he really was the first one to play rock n roll out of everyone not just blacks. In my opinion hes the king of rock n roll
@corn730 He was one of the greats that built Rock N Roll from the ground up. Both his song writing and his guitar playing were phenomenal. However, he was not the first to play rock n roll.
@John1948ThreeA Very True. I believe the first Rock N' Roll record that Rock historians credit as being the 'first' was Jackie Brenstons 'Rocket 88'. Regardless, Chuck is the man :)
@corn730 He was not the first Rock 'n' Roll artist definitely not. Rock technically wasn't even started in the 1950's in Elvis' words "Rock and Roll has been around for many years it used to be called Rhythm and Blues."
@corn730 Look up this quote "Rock 'n' roll has been around for many years. It used to be called rhythm and blues." if you think I am wrong. It was not Muddy Water's words considering I practically copied and pasted Elvis' exact words. This time I did copy from the website Elvis' exact words. So you are wrong.
@corn730 I like Muddy Waters better than Elvis I was just saying Chuck wasn't the first rock artist. Even by the type of rock he played he wasn't Little Richard was before him and Elvis.
@corn730 Same for me Chuck was probably more influential because he brought the hard guitar parts to rock whereas Little Richard brought the piano both great though.
Awesome tune! I keep this 45 in my personal Jukebox! The other side is "Roll Over Bethoven". Its a double hit series : )

No doubt Chuck Berry is a great performer but he was influenced by the Grandmother of Rock & Roll Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

@palmer8112 King does not necessarily equal first or inventor. This is an argumewnt that no one can ever win because it's all based on opinion.
