  • @supdjdan Mate, Skrillex did not invent vocal chopping. It's been around for many, many years....

  • wait how do u slice is ther a certain botton or do u jst highlight n drag dat out? n by the way love the music

  • @west818coastin If your rockin pc, highlight what you want to cut then hold control then click and drag the piece you want

  • sounds freaking awesome

  • bad asss

  • Or maybe you can just input the .wav file of the acapella to the simpler, and add sample start - sample end for each parts of voice to the corresponding ones :D cmiiw

  • when are you releasing this?! haha :D i'd love to hear a full version!

  • what preset for the sylenth? looks like its some sort of arp rolling bass preset from the looks of you two long notes you hav on the midi

  • the magic ingredient lol :-)

  • Awsome man! been looking for this for a long time

  • thanks

    whats that accapella?

    sounds amazing

  • really good will defo try this out :D

  • how did you get the acapella ???????????????

  • great

  • so is this what skrillex does all day? o_O

  • Do i hear Imogen heap singing?

  • @vigilllll He said at the beginning, I got the vocals from Imogen Heap, Headlock.

  • Once again. A excelent video.

  • "i've got this little loop right here" *face blasted by pumping track*

  • Awesome tutorial! I'll try that THANKS!

  • very nice tutorial

  • Does ableton automatically add short fades on cut audio regions to avoid clipping sounds?

  • Great tutorial. Just what I was looking for :)

  • Hey thanks a lot for the tutorial, my question though is how do we know what notes the singer is singing so it doesn't clash with the instrumentals?

  • Great idea. :)

Where did you get the acapella sample? I've never heard it before and would love to get it.

    Ryan

  • @ryancalhounashton It's sampled from an artists. Imogen Heap. *Hint* If you are going to sample things don't use more than 5 seconds of the sample other wise you're going to get screwed by copy-write. You should always check with the artists and see if they will let you use their work. Doing what Airbase did in this video won't get you into any trouble though. The song name is Head Lock.

  • @QuantikMusic Dont use more then 5 seconds? There are thousands of that are made every day that heavily sample any audio without any restrictions or any permissions. There are Hundreds or mashups that come out every day that are made entirely out of songs other people made... are your talking about some 5 second rule? Where are you living mate???

  • @QuantikMusic lol what are you talking about.. 5 seconds hahahahaha ever heard a mashup?

  • Does anyone know where I can get trance acapellas for remixes?

I heard they come with online purchases of some trance albums.

  • sounds like Skrillex

  • @supdjdan or skrillex sounds like this? maybe he saw this vid before he made my name is skrillex?

  • thanks!

  • Thanks alot! Never thought about doing this! big ups!

  • excellent THANQ!!!!

  • Very,very awesome

  • can anybody help ?....where could I find the acapella of headlock friend??

.. this tutorial is nice by the way...

  • @baristha I need the exact same help with quite a few songs that I wanna do remixes too. Don't worry you're not alone haha

  • @imraanshah7 That's very nice of You to say Thank you ...Friend!

  • This remix is so great. Simple yet interesting! Well done!

  • what are u doing to cut the pieces out what buttons are u pushing! some of us are beginners

  • Very good production :) ---> Respect

  • good stuff! keep 'em comin'

  • Great stuff. Thanks. I,m new to Ableton so its all like magic at the moment.

  • ANY1 KNOW HOW TO TIME STRETCH VOCALS? I TRYD TO STRECTH SOMTHING AND IT WOULDNT GO PAST A CERTAIN PART

  • Brilliant!

  • what do you think of using the slicer in ableton vs. doing it manually? sounded pretty awesome considering you didn't even listen to it as you chopped it but just stuck the notes in, are you putting the vocals on the kick or between the kicks i.e. 1.1.3 1.2.3 etc.

  • great tutorial, thanks!

  • nice tutorial.

i guess one could use the same approach but transferring those samples into a drum rack for better playability with a pad controller, for example.

oh, and why not even generate some randomness with the random midi note tool preceding the drum rack.

  • thanks for that

  • Thank you for sharing, that was sooo useful.

  • Still the best vocal chops tutorial on YouTube. Thanks, Jezper.

  • hay

    THANKS

  • Awesome!!!! thank you so much!!

are you able to explain where you get your acapellas from?

  • @kakejelly Imogen Heap's "Headlock" was made available to remix through this software called U-Myx.

I'm sure that's where he got the vocal tracks.

  • wow. very useful tutorial! very simple and very effective! THANKS ALOT!

  • Whoa, awesome tutorial. You should totally finish that song you were just messing around with btw :p

  • to anyone who can help..where i can find voices and frases like these you use in this tutorial? is there any extra pack you use?

    *im noob about the program

*im glad that some people do so helpful guides:)

  • @jimkaragian1 You are just a little fucking ass kisser, aren't you? You can find voices and phrases in your throat. Just takes a little imagination. Not every person out here is interested in holding your tiny hand. Go do some searches, or make them yourself.

  • @MrDarcyzPP relax man..xaxaxa

i said "i'm glad that some people do so helpful guides"

and u r the opposite..as it seems u r a noob who trying to look like an uber user..xaxa

    u r sick man...

  • Thats a really hot song.

  • By the way that was great.. thanx

  • I need help.. How do I record vocals whilst playing my beat without reordingthe beat on the same track as the vocal? Is it possible in live 7? Please help..

  • have the vocalist wear headphones (make sure they're not so loud that they bleed into the mic)

  • @djelcapitan "have the vocalist wear headphones..." yeah and a muzzle.

  • gjorde du låt lr remix av detta lät ju fett nice !

  • this is wicked mate thanks very much for using ur spare time to help noobs like me learn the ropes.

    RESPECT

  • good stuff. you can also throw the vocal sample into simpler, make a rhythmic midi clip, and mess with the start parameters. might be faster but harder to get exactly what you're looking for...

  • great lesson !

  • really helped.. can you make a tutorial on how to structure your track? or on Hi-Strings?

  • very very nice. i am a new user to ableton, i came from using fl studio. tutorials like this make me a happy man.

  • man this is awsome.i subscribed to your channel.i really would like to see a tutorial on ways to use old movie dialogue in your songs.

  • Thanks Jezper - your the maan!

  • Great thanks :)

  • great tutorial, amazing how you can have used ableton for years knowing how it works and stuff and then you watch a vid and you're like, damn why the hell don't i just drag and drop like that!

now i just need more good vocal samples, anyone got any reccomends?

  • Amazing!!! extremely helpful

  • Are these chops going to be incorporated into a song? It sounds sick!

  • Man your tutorials are a lifesaver.

I'd kill to see you make a "how to make a synth" tutorial......as basic as it seems =b

  • very very helpful. you edit so smoothly and quickly!

  • thanks, really amazing! :)

  • thank you for sharing the knowledge

    great tutorial!!!

  • Thanks for the tips m8

  • hey jezper :) i was wondering if you could tell me which effect in ableton you dropped to change the pitch of the vocal?

  • I'm not using any effect. The transpose feature is built in to Ableton.

  • Hmm i read back...so are those related to the midi keyboard ? :D

  • the strange symbol is sorta the equivalent of the CTRL key, but on a mac.

Hence it shows you what hes pressing on his keyboard....

  • Man i love your music and yesterday i was searchin some tutorial and your tutorials came up. Awesome job :)

btw here is a stupid question :D : what do those popupping signs mean? Those numbers and letters etc.

  • this is very handy for liquid drum & bass

  • was getting the hang of it but all of a sudden, when i start chopping and copying, it suddently stops me from using any buttons/dragging anything... strange, any1 else had this???

  • this info is gold dust, so glad i switched from fruity to live!

  • ableton live is the best daw out there now man, I love it I just got suite 8 and its fantastic.

    Good job ;)

  • very good m8.how quick are u in ableton?

  • simply amazing !

  • wow thanks man :) thats gonna help loads!!, ooh and btw i would really really really appreciate it if u listened to my new song "Solar Flare" id like to know what needs improving etc, and coming from a pro hehe :), i use reason 4, but you cant vocal chop in there :( is there any chance of doing a vocal chop in ableton then saving it as a wav file or something?

  • Thanks

  • Thanks for the tutorial.I always wonder how this vocal chop works.Really thank you :)

  • an great example of this. thanks for posting

  • i have a prob,..apparently i have an acapella of a song right...i wnt make a remix...but i dont know how i can get the acapella in time!! pls i need help please pm me instructions...clear instructions

  • Warp the vocals

  • Hey guys, Where can i find some free accopelas? For trance and stuff

  • Try googling Looperman..great Ableton site

  • Yeah i use recycle and reason through rewire to do this same process. I love chopping up vocals. Nice track, sounds very good!

  • thats another way of doing it. i find it easier to chop the samples up on Recycle and then key them in with my keyboard on ableton.. so every key on my keyboard triggers a different snippet. i find that quicker than this.. u can also repitch them as u wish and u kinda know how its gonna sound.. but ur way works too. personal pref

  • my deep respect , and tnx for the video

  • This was just great. I love those tutorials of yours. I'm in the process of gathering a lot of input and getting ideas, and you've been very helpful with those tutorials of yours. I hope to see many more!

  • nice tutorial!

when will the remix be finished? sounds great!

also, it would be nice to explain how to do the warping of the vocal and keep the voice sound natural, not like when you slow the BPM of a track without changing the pitch, as a result making the track sound unnatural in bassline/pad parts

yes, the clip has the Tonal and Complex warping modes, but doesn't always work + the Complex mode cuts high frequencies

  • you didn't explain a damn thing

  • Was some part unclear? Let me know what and I'll try to write some additional information

  • Dont listen to that kamikkk. Your tutorial kicked ass. I don't use Ableton and yet you made it clear enough for me to see what was going on. Great Job bro!

  • Simple and fun tastic Thanks bud!!

  • Amazing idea! can i ask where you find your acapellas?

  • google for acapellas4u and you'll get there (can't post urls in the comments)

  • Jezper, thanks so much for all of your tutorials!! It's amazing that you take the time to put something special back into the scene for other people to learn from! Please keep it up in 2009, along with your awesome productions!! :-)

  • f**k i whant you skill now omg wish i could do that that good

  • very innovative and creative! Thanks so much for ur wondeful tut!

  • Nice one man, cheers.

  • hmm do u have a sidechained pad (chorded note) used in all your songs to create that presumable depth to it? i can say it works.... but ive never noticed that before...

    anyway GJ

  • Thank you for posting these are very helpful.I am just learning Ableton and the possibilities are endless.

    Cheers
