Many cats are unable to properly care for themselves and we can greatly help them by making them feel so much better by doing this. In fact, the cat appears to be calm and actually enjoy it's hair cut.

I find that when I shave my cat, she is just fine with it until the shaver gets overheated (go figure) and is hot to the touch. Obviously it bothers her then. I wonder if there are shavers that do not get overheated like this? Until then, we do our shaving in 10 minute increments.
... I shave her because she is 12 years old and this makes it a lot easier to keep her clean and free from pests.
@mangala666 You need to get a cooling spray for the blade. If you spray it every five minutes or so, it'll prevent the blade from getting too hot. I have an Andis groomer and I use Andis Cool Care Plus which also contains a lubricant oil to keep the blade running in top condition.
I have a 14y/o Maine Coon that no longer grooms herself, so she's matted all the time if I don't keep her shaved. She LOVES not have long fur!

Ahh, well that makes sense. I've never been able to find out what Simon is so I guess it makes sense that you can't find out what Tango is haha. That's what we guessed too. He used to be a lot lighter but then his markings got darker, he got fuzzier and fatter, and now he's just a luxurious rug type of cat haha. Thanks for the info. :)
I need to shave my stray kitty. he's indoor now and can't have a bath because of his feLV. He's so dirty and matted. The vets keep telling me no bath for him so shaving is my last option to get him clean. He bites his hair out too.

My friend had a kitten once that was a long hair kitten it looked like a puff ball and it was soo lazy and i said it was because it was hot(middle of summer no ac in the house) so i shaved it...at first it flip and about half way through it realized how nice it felt and just laid on the table and purred!!

That's IF the cat goes outside. Lot of times the cats are indoor, and so sunburn and heatstroke do not come into play. We shave our long haired cat in the summer for 2 reasons: she's cooler and more active with short hair and she's kind of fat and can't reach her bum to clean it (ew)

I really couldn't tell you for sure XD;
The person we got him from said he was tonkanese, but he is obviously not...because Tonkanese are short haired cats xD;
I think he's a hybrid of sorts. He's like a burmese/siamesepossibly tonkanese/and judging by his markings he's got some tabby in him too.
He was a farm kitten, so there's nothing to really trace back to sadly :(
