Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great games such as the Castlevania series. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
I wish this game was brought back. First on the virtual consul for like 800 points and then do a remake of the "entire" game with high level graphics. If anybody agrees with me can I hear a thumbs up!
I thought they ruined the Castlevania series by putting it in 3d. I did not enjoy Castlevania 64 very much at all, BUT... I sure as hell love the hell out of the music. Fucking FANTASTIC music.
this takes me back....i got this game along with "rocket" (the best game ever period!) back in 99 as a gift from my mom. I always thought the music on this video game was amazing...till this day...i remember every song on this game...i remember playing the game and then stopping, because of the very beautiful music that was on...it gave the game a value and moral that still holds up. I dont play or have a video game system anymore (its not my thing), but i really respect and admire this game.
I remember playing this as a kid and when I entered the maze and the giants guys with chainsaws and their dogs started chasing me I fucking shat myself.
The Castlevania series has consistently brought us some of the most amazing and memorable music in video game history and of course this is no exception. Spectacular to no end.
love it, my favorite out of all the songs in the game, its great too because you couldnt guess that all the while you were making a deal with the devil whenever you spoke with renon, pretty fun game overall honestly.
Frankly C64 looked pretty bad to me and the mechanics were kinda bad, but as the pioneer for 3D games in the series I have the greatest respect for it. If it was remade it could easily wipe CoD and LoI out of the water.
Musically, I enjoy how subdued it is. I don't quite know why, but it all fits nicely. If there were a remake of the game my only wish is that the music remain the same ambiance it has.
Wow, since everyone is going nuts about ZeldaVSCastlevania... I think I'll post about this video now
It's funny, I have this OST, & listening to it between the OSTs from the other games, it seemed pretty dull just light atmospheric music
But hearing Garudoh's picks here, it's much nicer than I remember. Though I do wish Dance of Illusions was a bit more lively & frantic(though I really like the vocals in this version's background)
& I don't remember the jumping looking that funny in the game.
I don't care what anyone says, this (and LoD, which is just a beefed-up version) is the best 3D Castlevania game. True, that isn't saying much, but think about it. Lament of Innocence was pretty uninspiring and Curse of Darkness is torture to play. Oh boy, endless repetitive flat hallways, drop camping AND shoehorned item synthesis? SIGN ME UP!
Say what you want about C64/LoD, but at least it had VARIETY and VERTICAL MOVEMENT. And Carrie's panties.
i don't think it was underrated, I think it was given it's due. Half of the reviewers liked it, half of them didn't, and the game was kind of a mild hit. However, as a follow-up to Symphony of the Night there isn't much substance to the 64 games. So taken as a straight 3D action platformer, there are still some very crude and rushed factors to this game in particular. If you watch the Dracula 3D video it's easy to see why many people expected more.
The dracula 3d video looked terrible dude. And you call it a "mild hit" which may have been true at it's release, but you obviously have blinders on if you haven't seen the sort of blind vitriol the game has had to go through since then.
Look at everything that happens in that video, the special effects of the Carrie's magic, Cornell's kung-fu acrobatics, Reinhart's platforming by swinging with the whip over a pit of lava, and the unreleased character's block & counter attack. Not only were 2 characters and storylines removed from the first game, (with one thrown out completely) but the graphics looked terrible, the controls were awkward, and even though the music was good it was more atmospheric than something to jam out to.
You say atmospheric like it's a bad thing, it's not. The graphics don't look "terrible" they look like pretty much what most mid-budget n64 games looked like at the time. The graphics were also considerably more high-poly than in that video you're talking about, and not nearly as muddy. Listening to this is like hearing someone bitch about wind waker becuase it they expected an expanded spaceworld demo, it's idiotic.
The only thing unique about Wind Waker was it's sailing aspect, and most people didn't like it. The Dracula 3D video had a lot of unique ideas, none of which were implemented.
This idiotic notion that you're referring to is called honesty. There were many aspects of the 64 Castlevanias that I did not like. I can't change how I feel, but at least I'm not one of these people who think that Iga can do no wrong and that no one can possibly enjoy these games. Imagine if they remade it though!
You clearly didn't actually play wind waker, and your assertation that "most people didn't like it" is nothing short of balls out wrong. The dracula 3d video had innovation? where? there was nothing there that was clearly gameplay anyway.
I was bored to death by Wind Waker just like everybody else via that ridiculous sailing. Everything else in that game was the same Zelda we've been playing for ages. The series really hasn't changed all that much. I'm sorry that I don't wear the same colored glasses when I play Zelda like everyone else, but Nintendo is stagnating all of their series rather than innovating.
I think that you're taking this discussion much too personally by defending such mediocrity. Just say you won & let it go.
Dude I dont' know what your problem is but you seriously need to stfu, gtfo or both. All I said was I find the game to be underrated and you come in here with all your bullshit which I am quite sick of. You really need to just fucking STOP already.
Thank you for playing. You are now blocked because you have some personal issues to deal with that are none of my business. Serious business via the internets indeed. Despite all your fine words, the game doesn't love you back.
I remember this game being somewhat scary when I first played it years ago. I mean, I was scared by Super Castlevania (at points) when I was even younger on the SNES, but this had a similar affect on me.
the scary moments for me where when the lightnings struck the trees in the begining of the first level. totaly unexpected. i had the same reactino when playing resident evil for the first time and having those dogs jump through the windows and come after me in the narow hall way in the begining. these sorts of events help give you much unexpected surprize in the game and draw the player more into the envrioment.
I must say this game is underrated, but as many before me have said it, I say... the music sounds like this? I never really lisoned to it when I played...
Hehe, you don't have to listen too carefully since it actually is version of "Bloodlines", but it certainly is the more exquisite version I've ever heard. :)
OH GOD THE HEDGE MAZE, ahhh I should have played that on holloween

i really like zelda. the series are magnificent. i also truly love castlevania.
zelda has the gameplay, and the originality. i mean, with the wind waker, there was NO other game like it with sailing option.
castlevania pulls me always over with its magnificent music in EVERY game.

The low strings that start around 1:00-1:30 remind me of a similar melody from one of the pieces from Carmen

true that. What a fantastic soundtrack overall though. Lackluster game design in my opinion...

Liked the game, luved the music.
The fogging from the N64 hardware limitation (or less than optomized coding) actually added to the creepiness of the game.
